recording date: c.2021
00:00 - I. Andante - Allegro
07:58 - II. Andante
14:22 - III. Scherzo: Allegro
Note: This recording is not from any album, I ripped the audio from Cann's own performance video here. - • Price: Piano Sonata in...
I chose this performance instead of the recordings in released albums by other people because the ones in the albums are just too slow. (especially in the third movement...)
One of those pieces where even the introduction tells you you're about to hear a masterpiece.
This is good, the melody in the Second Movement feels so wholesome for some reason... I love it
This is so unbelievably fun to play
I only discovered this piece recently through Michelle Cann and I think what I like about it is that it doesn’t really remind me of any other composer. Price had such a unique voice as a composer and I am glad to know her now!
An impressively ambitious work, expertly performed. Thank you for posting-with elegantly notated scrolling score!
What an amazing composition. Am I the only listener hearing those wonderful young Scriabin rhythms and sounds in this piece?
3:26-3:36 is so beautiful
I would love to hear more Florence Price with scores, such as "Clouds".
Outstanding performance!
Absolutely beautifully played
The rhythm of the Allegro reminds me of the Eb Major March in Chopin's Fantaisie Op. 49.
Impressive!
17:39 parody of the 2nd movement
18:37 guest star appearance: Debussy's Minstrels
I need this music sheet. There is no E book available anywhere. Does anyone has a pdf? Thank you all in advance.
Where did you get the score
I know this is a year old but for anyone else wondering, Schirmer's sells it. Although admittedly, my copy has a few minor errors in the transcription.
American sounding
Not surprising since she was black and the daughter of an African-American dentist. There is a strong thread of spiritual-like motifs through her music, and also echoes of MacDowell and the "New World" symphony of Dvorak. I have been looking at this Sonata (as a not very accomplished amateur) and find it very appealing and mostly fun to play. There's nothing revolutionary about it and the harmonic language is old-fashioned for when it was composed, but Price deploys it well.
What is American sound.
