This is actually a good idea! Fried turkey has no smoke flavor and smoked turkey has a rubbery skin. I am not making a turkey this year, I think I am going to cook a pork butt! Have a good Thanksgiving Big Lew and Rock On!
@@BigLewBBQ I'd like to try this but I don't have the oil less fryer so I'll be using one of my Pit Barrels. Just got a turkey to try a new brine with for 49 cents a pound!👍
I love the intro and teaching lesson in the opening. I don't think the turkey looked bad at all, but it did look kind of like a monster created by Dr. Big Lew in the cage and probes sticking out of it! (was just thinking that when looking at it) Did she call it Hobbit Stew? You make a great point on split styles of cooking. But if one needs to split cook, do it this way, easy, clean, and turned out great!
That looks great. I am thinking of selling my Big Easy and the Big Easy accessories because of uneven cooking. The upper part of my Big Easy gets a lot hotter than the lower portion. I always have to overcook part of a turkey or chicken to get everything above 165. Maybe your method would work better for me. I almost bought an electric version from a different company, Nesco, with elements on the sides and one in the center, but I have too many grills already.
@@rickcormier9160 the bottom doesn’t get as hot. That’s why turkeys should be cooked legs down. For chickens and other stuff I never use the bottom of the basket. But sell it if you need too.
Great information, Big Lew! Tis the season for all kinds of turkey!😋😋😋
Indeed it is.
@@BigLewBBQ In 2 weeks we'll be deaing with all the leftovers... - lol

@@rootboycooks this does have both smoke flavor and crispy skin. Also, it is way cheaper than buying fire wood/ or charcoal and 3½ gallons of oil.
This is a great idea Big Lew! Going to the store to grab a turkey now. Have a great weekend Bud!
@@BBQPITDOG to do this or cook another way?
Thanks for watching

@ a pit barrel is a real smoker, not a pseudo smoker. It uses charcoal.
@@BigLewBBQ Yea....but I love it with Pecan chunks too.
Thanks for sharing this. Cheers, Big Lew! 👍👍✌️

Going to try this awesome video Big Lew
@@Rolling_Smoke_BBQ_Cooking well you get crispy and smoke flavor at the same time.
I might have to give this method a try. Wish you a Happy Thanksgiving
@@larrygettel2549 it’s really good, and really different. I do like it. Yet, I think i prefer one or the other.
Yeah man good idea! I usually smoke my chicken wings before I deep fry them. good technique!

Thanks definitely trying this Thanksgiving. Going to brine with either Kosmos or Hey grill Hey. Maybe Sam’s club brine kit for cheaper lol
The Big Easy made the best “fried” turkey I’ve ever had. No need to buy $55 worth of oil anymore.
