Chris Hillman and Bernie Leadon on Drawing Musical Inspiration from Each Other

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members Chris Hillman and Bernie Leadon each joined many pivotal bands in the West Coast folk-rock and country-rock scenes. Hillman was part of the Hillmen (previously the Golden State Boys), the Byrds, and Manassas, among others, while Leadon formed Hearts & Flowers and later joined the Eagles, among others. By 1970, Hillman recruited Leadon to play lead guitar for the Flying Burrito Brothers.
In a special conversation recorded last October, the pair discussed their long friendship and the musical inspiration they drew from each other over the years. "You guys sent everybody back to the drawing board," says Hillman to Leadon of the Eagles' self-titled first album (1972). The album included megahits "Witchy Woman" and "Take It Easy." "If it hadn't been for the Burritos, and Poco, and the really good bands in the county-rock area, the Eagles would have never happened," says Leadon.
