    I am turning this vessel from a piece of walnut crotch wood I won in a raffle at my local woodturners club meeting. I had some indecision about what resin project to do next, I just couldn’t pick one from the list. So I decided to take a break and make something out of just wood for a change. Definitely a fun, quick piece and I got some practice in with my all my tools. Even got to try out my new lathe stay support. Thanks for watching, hope you have a great day!

    Lovely turning I just love the way that walnut 9 times out of 10 gives you a nice pattern in it or like this one had a surprise hidden waiting to be shown great work as ever it seems from every video of yours I have watched

      Thanks Scott! Think I should make more videos with just using wood? That resin takes a long time to cure. I could make a whole extra video in that time. Worth a shot? Thanks again for watching and commenting on all my videos since the beginning!

    Very elegant! I like that you left some of the imperfections in the piece. I try to do that in every piece I turn. It's kinda like letting the wood sign it. 👍👌

    Nice vase. The black CA looks good. A suggestion, on your sanding extension on your drill, slide a piece of copper pipe on so you can hold that and not the turning extension, if you want.

    Nice looking piece. How did you find the steady support. I recntly got one and was happy with it. Not as robust as some but on a limited budget it was good enough for me.Thanks for sharing much appreciated. Cheers Bruce

      Thanks for watching Bruce. I really wanted to make my own but am constantly short on time. I picked this one up pretty cheap on amazon. It’s definitely not as robust as what I would prefer but gets the job done and provides some safety to the task. I figured I could at least use the hardware and wheels when I get around to making my own. Thanks for watching, hope you have a great day!

    Nice work with the big knobby end, your vision came through. How do you like your Simple Hollowing system? Looks like a cool tool. I wonder if it would fit my midsize Jet lathe. I’d appreciate your feedback on it to see if it’s something worth looking into. Thanks

    • @squareandlevel
      @squareandlevel  7 місяців тому

      I would suggest contacting simple woodturning tools directly about any fitment questions. I cant imagine it wouldn't fit, but definitely don't want to give you wrong info. I'm really happy with my hollowing system purchace. I did pay full price for this tool before I contacted them for an affiliate partnership. I do not have any experience with any other brands ,so keep that in mind. I can say once its set up and adjusted properly it makes hollowing a fair amount easier and feels way safer than hollowing free hand. I also really like the laser attachment , it gives a perfect point of reference for where the cutter is at on the inside of vessel. Really reduces the bending over and looking inside. Hope that helps a bit. Thanks for watching, hope you have a great day!

    What were you using to apply the Yorkshire Grit?

      @@squareandlevelAt 5:10 it looks like it's a white sponge or sanding pad of some sort.

    • @squareandlevel
      @squareandlevel  8 місяців тому +3

      Your right! I’m sorry about that, I forgot. I used a small piece of white fine scotch bright pad on this piece. It’s the same pad I use to apply hard wax oil finishes to my table tops.

      @@squareandlevelThank you! I haven't used grit for polishing before, I've just used sandpaper/sanding mesh. I'm thinking about trying some, and was wondering about the best way to use it.

    What is the black liquid that was used to fill the cracks in the timber?

    • @squareandlevel
      @squareandlevel  6 місяців тому

      Black CA glue. If I were to make this piece again, I would have filled the holes and cracks with coffee grounds and then backfilled that with the CA glue. I think it would have turned out nicer and used less glue. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I hope you have a great day!

    Can you tell me about the mount for the castors under your Jet bandsaw? I really like that mount & have the same bandsaw. Thanks!

    • @squareandlevel
      @squareandlevel  8 місяців тому

      I bought that bandsaw used and it came with the casters. Fairly positive they are a Jet factory accessory. Might check Jets website. Thanks for watching, hope you have a great day!

    • @RossNobles

      thanks! I checked their website & their parts list but the site is not user friendly. I could find the actual castors but not the cast iron piece the castors mount on. If you run across a part number, I’d be very grateful if you would send it my way! Thank you!

    Looks like English Walnut. I bought a lot of it as picture framing material but I far prefer Black Walnut. Both woods are not even really similar to each other.
