bruh I didn't cry and I was recently at my own dads funeral I lowered the casket and I didn't cry...the ending was terrible and didn't hit me in the heart... do...do you think its anyone else or...am I just... cold hearted? cuz my dads death did that...
And an even more hurting thing is in this reality Max has to live knowing Chloe didn't have those happy memories of that time they spent together after her return from Seattle to Arcadia Bay. Because she perished in that girl's room before everything even happened. She didn't even know Max was in town. She died believing she was abandoned by everyone and especially by Max. She never knew Max loved her so much and would do anything for her or saved her life so many times. Except... for the last time.
@@eddiedutra3359 It's surprising, maybe i think you haven't played the "Before The Storm : Life is Strange" prequel to the Life is Strange. Play that including the Bonus DLC Farewell episode and that might change your perspective. Chloe lost everything she had and I'm glad i sacrificed Arcadia Bay instead of Chloe, after having lost literally everything in her life at a young age, she deserved it. Your choice might still be different than mine but for me this was good for me.
I like to think that after death, the "spirit" of Rachel makes Chloe's spirit aware of the alternate events of that week where Max came back, so it wasn't all in vain. Spirits or some form of life-after-death are more or less confirmed to be a thing in the LiS world given the events, so it makes sense I guess.
This ending is my favorite because it teaches the player a lesson. Sometimes we must leave the past as the past, and instead of changing past mistakes, learn to grow from them. Everything happens for a reason, and this choice seems the most likely as to what Chloe would choose.
Meanwhile in the other ending, it teaches the player that fate can change if you believe in yourself but you have to sacrifice a ton of things in your past including your past mistakes. Did I get it right?
I really can't give enough credit to the amazing performance of Ashley Burch as Chloe in this game. She poured so much of herself into this character. This performance is one of the one's I always turn to for inspiration on voice acting. Really, incredible job.
@@paklaselt2198 lmao, yea that’s totally why she has an IMDB with roles listing back to 2007 alongside multiple writing roles and a director role, it’s all because of her brother. You just don’t like her, which is fine, but she’s obviously a skilled enough individual to land work on her own. Grow up.
Her dad died Her best friend left her Her other best friend died Her stepfather was cruel to her But she was willing to sacrifice her own life to save a town she hated for years An amazing character don’t you think?
Her parents are alive Her friends are alive She has so many connections She is good at Theater She is good at school She is good at dancing She does drugs, drinks She has a partner, lover, and people who care for her But she was willing to sacrifice it all. A suprising character dont you think?
Yes, the music exactly represented my feelings during this ending, like it slowly builds up something, you realise chloe is dead and that she will never be there again, and at here funeral the music gets louder, and you just sit there, crying and shivering. This game was so beautiful and sad
@@Gazzoosethe1 Tough parents are the most caring ones. My parents used to never let me go to sleepovers with my friends. I was pretty angered at that but I realized they were just protecting me.
Despite the money owed he showed his deepest respect & maybe just maybe friendship or guilt because he eventually finds out if you tell him that Rachel died from a overdose of his drugs because of Nathan i cried so hard
Why is no one talking about the living hell Joyce must be going through? She lost her husband AND her daughter, that's absolutely HEARTBREAKING I have a teacher who is the mother of one of my best friends; and last year she discovered ON THE SAME DAY that both her mother and her son had cancer, her mother died and she still suffers from that a year after she passed away, her son (my friend) was in a pretty serious condition but he thankfully survived the disease. I could never begin to comprehend the pain that woman went through and I admire her so much for that; now imagine loosing the two most important people of your whole life man... Joyce does not deserve that AT ALL, as we can see she could barely even walk to Chloe's coffin, that's so fucking sad
Sometime things just happen. There is no higher power to guide who deserves what, no global meaning or justice. We're just people, living on a giant rock floating through space. No one is to care for us but ourselves... When something like that happens - we can only grief and try our best to live past that, having the one's that are still nearby us to comfort us in our worst moments. And, maybe, find some peace of mind, knowing that we had our moments, had our time together. Time, we may not have had, like most living creatures on this planet need to go through. It is a cruel world, no doubt that. But we as people know of no other.
The worst part is that she didn't even have a chance to agree/disagree with Chloe's death. It happened all of a sudden for her. Some say that otherwise Chloe would lose her mother too...yeah. But at the lighthouse she had the option to accept her mother's death and foresee it, which she does if Max chooses her. Joyce didn't have that opportunity.
I think this end sequence could’ve been so much more beautiful if it included the blue butterfly (Chloe) landing next to the transparent deer (Rachel) in the distance. The best reunion of all time
Everyone is so sad about Chloe dying not remembering any of this and thinking that everyone she ever loved abandoned her, but I’m sad about the fact that Max knows the whole story and can never tell anyone about it. The truth is, Max is now more hopeless and alone than Chloe ever could have been. No matter how close and supportive those around her can be, no one will ever understand what absolute horror she has been through.
Exactly. This truth hit me so hard when she was at the funeral surrounded by her friends. Little do they know she had to grow up over the span of the last week, saying goodbye to her childhood with Chloe dying and taking responsibility for an entire town... Noone will ever be able to empathize with how helpless she felt when she realized destiny just won't let Chloe live or only for a too high cost.
@@strawberrylb No. When Chloe died here she didn't even know Max was in the bathroom. And when the photos fade they imply that all that week never happened, only Max herself will know.
For me, it was never even an option to sacrifice Arcadia Bay. Max spends so much time talking to and connecting with its people, and if she had chosen to kill thousands to save her best friend, she wouldn’t be able to live with the guilt. Destroying Arcadia Bay would mean killing Chloe’s mom and Warren and Kate, but it would also mean that Rachel’s justice would be completely overshadowed by the unjust death of an entire town. Chloe’s main motivation the whole story is to avenge Rachel. If Arcadia Bay had been destroyed, the immensity of that destruction would make Rachel’s story obsolete because everyone who knew and loved Rachel would already be dead, never knowing what happened to her. And at the end of the day, Chloe telling Max to sacrifice her to save the town is what truly develops her character. After making so many morally ambiguous decisions (throwing Max under the bus with her stepdad, wanting to steal charity money, almost killing Frank, etc.), Chloe’s sacrifice is her redemption. It’s truly excruciating that Chloe died feeling depressed and abandoned by everyone she ever cared about, but another comment suggested the idea that Chloe’s spirit (the butterfly) remembers everything that happened and is finally at peace with Rachel (the deer). And I think that’s the best ending that she could have ever hoped for.
@@nsnstanner935 sacrificing herself is what Chloe would have done, saving Chloe is what Max would have done IMO. Max tearing up the photo and refusing to time travel anymore is her accepting the consequences of her actions and that she can't just time travel out of it. Also aside from Max not knowing what sacrificing Chloe by doing one more time travel would do (and that this wouldn't cause more time rips) I personally dislike stories where the whole journey is reversed by some supernatural plot device and it might as well have been a dream lol.
@@nsnstanner935 yeah even she was telling that but i find this ending more better than the other just because it makes sense and connects the story properly the other ending just ruins the story
The thing that breaks my heart the most is the shot of Max with all the scattered photos. It looks like she’s considering/trying to use one to save Chloe
People tend to underestimate that controller vibrate part when the shot rings out. That's what hit me the hardest, besides, well Chloe dying of course.
@@sandudelcea6707 No it doesn’t 😂 sacrificing the person you care about most to save the world is a way better story than “teehee, everyone is dead k bye” lmao even the soundtrack is better in the sacrificing Chloe ending. You just like the characters and their relationships which is why you think that. Story wise, it’s a dumb ending to choose her
@@spookecat max would never sacrifice chloe, this ending causes a lot of plot holes and both songs are kinda mid but i prefer obsticles. Story wise, it makes more sense that she just stops carring and doesn't want to time travel anymore, why try it 1 more time if all the other times she's done it, it has fucked everything up ? Also if sacrifice chloe ending is canon, then the entire game is non canon, and that's not good storytelling.
I think this ending is the more rational out of the two, because you not only save the population of a town, but you also bring Rachel and Chloe to justice by getting Nathan and Mr. Jefferson caught. I always choose this ending because I don't want a townful of innocent people to die, but my heart still breaks over the tragedy of seeing Chloe die believing that she was unloved.
In fact, in the other ending, justice also prevails. Nathan is killed before Max makes the decision to sacrifice the city, and Jefferson is caught by David in the bunker.
@@zeratulzeratulovich6597nathan and jefferson are dealt with regardless but in one ending chloe dies and in the other you let joyce die cus she was in the town
@@cliffwill27 Chloe's actually fine with Max sacrificing the town for her. She's the one who gave her permission to do it. That's how her speech ends: Wherever I end up after this... in whatever reality... all those moments between us were real, and they'll always be ours. No matter what you choose, I know you'll make the right decision." -"Chloe... I can't make this choice" - " No, Max... You're the only one who can. And when Max made the decision, she supported and comforted her. So Chloe chooses Max over Bay when Max chooses her.
Just finished the game and it hit like a train. One thing that I feel, this game teaches is that you have to let the past go, you can't change what's destined to happen, you have to accept it and move on. If you do change the course of nature then you will also have to face the consequence (sacrificing Arcadia bay). Truly one of the greatest games, heck, I should say one of the greatest story of all the fiction. Hard to recover from this
But isn't it the other way around? If you sacrifice Chloe that means you are digging through the past once again to undo a choice you ultimately wanted to make. If you sacrifice Arcadia that means you are accepting the consequences of your choices and you are moving on
@@Ricardo7250 Chloe is meant to die and Max saves Chloe using her powers, she just delays her death by sacrificing another for days. It's just like in the final fantasy movie that you really can't escape your destiny.
@@kendivedmakarig215 I didn't watch that movie (so correct me if I'm wrong) but normally when we talk about "you can't escape your own destiny" we are talking about bad decisions that we made in the past that comes back to haunt us. In this case, Max didn't do anything wrong, she acted to prevent a woman getting murdered in cold blood. So what should Max be ashamed of? Even if Max learns that she created a natural disaster, she should still be proud of the fact that she saved her best friend from dying alone in a cruel way. I don't like the idea of using Chloe as a sacrificial lamb to correct the timeline, so I stick with "Sacrifice Arcadia".
@@kendivedmakarig215 She was destined to die before the control point when the storm destroyed the city. After that, she never dies again and the storms never happen again. Max changed her fate by paying a heavy price. (The same is true for the city if she sacrifices Chloe because the storm happened in any timeline)
Tbh, this ending made more sense to completing Max's growth as a character, particularly *because* it defeats her original purpose of saving Chloe. With everything escalating to the final choice, Max has also grown to learn that she's a capable person who just needs to believe in herself more. Think about it. In the span of a single week: *1. Max learns to open up to others and show genuine concern for them.* Though you can argue that they were superficial at first because of the game mechanic of rewinding, but overtime she does understand that despite it all, she wants what's best for others *2. Max realizes that she does have talent.* Her winning the "Everyday Hero" contest in Episode 5 proved that she's a gifted artist, and that all she needs is a little push. *3. And most of all, she learns that every action has consequences.* By letting Chloe die, Max learns that for as much as she wants it to, life isn't going to give her exactly what she wants, and at times tough choices are just something she's going to have to live with. Yes, this ending is pretty much going to leave an extremely bad taste in her mouth (and that's not just an exaggeration, but an understatement), but it also stands as a strong point for Max to start seeing the world with a new perspective, a new lens (so to speak).
I'm sorry to write this after two years. It applies to both endings. The first two points are the same for both. The third point is in the other ending - she lets Arcadia Bay go. The place where she was born and lived most of her life. She lets go of not only that but her new friends (Kate and Warren). And she does it to save Chloe and not make her biggest mistake again (abandoning her). Max from earlier in the week would never have thought she would sacrifice the town. Max from the end of the week accepts it and faces the consequences of her actions. Max grows in both endings and lets go of something for something (the town/Chloe)
@@zeratulzeratulovich6597 late reply but Kate is possibly alive. The hospital is 30 minutes from arcadia and also, her family takes her from the hospital. Since they dont live in arcadia, it can be implied that they left and are safe. hopefully anyways because kate is the best.
This ending has so much more meaning than the sacrifice arcadia bay ending, you can even see Nathan didn't want to do that he was just going through hell because of Mr. Jefferson.
That’s the exact reason I had to sacrifice Arcadia! My dad died and my mum is forever devastated. I can’t even begin to comprehend how much it would destroy her if I died, especially as abruptly like Chloe
@@ck891 I completely understand and I’m sorry for you and your moms loss. For me it’s different. This to me seems like the more realistic and responsible ending. Think about it, is it worth letting dozens of innocent people die just to save one person? That to me would be selfish of Max to do that. However I respect whatever anyone picks since it’s their choice.
Chloe wasn't forgotten, and she didn't forget her week with Max either. The blue butterfly in the bathroom and at the end was Chloe's spirit that lived on, AND travelled through time to ensure everything played out exactly the way it did. Just as Rachel's spirit continued on in the deer/doe to ensure her murder didn't go unsolved, Chloe had to have Max naturally go through the time-altering events in order to gain the knowledge and clues to uncover Jefferson's crimes and bring him to justice. Similar in many ways in how John Conner had to send his father back through time in The Terminator to ensure he was born in the first place.
Frank is such a comfort character and I was kinda crying a lil bit when Chloe died but as soon as I saw Frank at her funeral wow... I just- I just started balling my eyes out .
I don't think Chloe died thinking Max abandoned her, because, after all, she lives as the blue butterfly spirit, which she could pass through all the realities that happened with her and Max. And I think she awoke Max's powers so that Max could spent more time with her. And the last encounter at the funeral shows that Chloe thanks Max for the good time and the decision to save the other people instead.
@@NoU-pf8fc I personally sacrificed Chloe. I loved Chloe but what kind of person would I be if I let countless innocent people and animals die just to save one person? That’s not right.
I know how you fell, but it was the only one right choice even it's hard to admit. The rescue of Chloe in the ladyroom and Max's supernatural power caused the storm which would destroy the city because of that. Sacrificing Chloe and given-up the power cancel the tragedy. It's really heartbreaking but it has to be accepted. It's the cruel philosophy of the game...
I just noticed that Kate comfort Joyce during the funeral... this is so sad. Poor Joyce she lost her husband and now her daughter and poor max , she is the only one who knew about what happened
This ending literally made me cry. This one is so much more put together and makes more sense than the other. Like the diner was still there? Why didn't they check for any survivors in the city? I feel like they worked more on this one than the alternative.
+Natalie Jeffrey The choice was definitely always gunna be there. You could see it coming. Sure it's better to save the whole town, but did anybody in that town care for Max? How bout the fact that the whole game revolved around how you get the power to save Chloe, so might as well do it. The illusion of choice that you couldn't save her no matter what even with your power would literally make the whole game pointless, and would probably have a bigger reaction by fans who want to save her. I honestly think the choices presented were great and you can vouch for either one. But I will agree the game makers put more effort into this ending.
Someone actually messaged one of the devs and he confirmed that they wanted to make a longer ending with more variations based on choices, but they couldn't because of budget and time limits. Someone also found files for a third "hospital" ending. I hate when stuff like that happens to games...
I feel like episodic games have this struggle a lot but I don't know much about game development so I cant say. I love episodic games, but they for sure have a lot of controversy around choice endings, or lack thereof.
Frank being at the funeral is actually really sad. In BTS, he saved Chloe from getting hurt. Right here, he’s probably thinking “Damn... Couldn’t save her this time “.
They did a phenomenal job pairing the music with the moments/scenes. From the title screen all the way to the last scene. It makes you feel those moments so much more. Beautifully done.
the Butterfly might actually represent max's alternate reality Chloe, witnessing her true destiny. As she comes to terms with Max in her grave to cheer her up. The butterfly is her spirit.
My online friend committed suicide years ago. A friend she knew in real life told me. She was a huge fan of this game, she loved the story and she loved Chloe. Once I found out she had passed, I dyed a strip of my hair blue in her honor. I still have a little of the bleached strip left.
This is the TRUE ending. The blue butterfly IS Chloe, as the deer was Rachel. The blue butterfly in the beginning was a way of Chloe reaching out beyond her deaths in all the timelines, and landing on the bucket, was a way of telling Max that where she needed to be was hidden away and to let Chloe die. Chloe did for Max what Rachel did for Max/Chloe--act as a guide in the form of a spirit animal.
Brilliant deduction and most likely true. Destroying Arcadia has also weird driving out of town - no search/call for Joyce? Warren? Frank? As if devs intentionally left it... lazy and the other multi-layered (with your example) to show exactly which ending is right.
@@Szmajdzik Actually with Warren/Joyce and Frank, it's obvious. They died in that diner, and Chloe talked about that possibility at the lighthouse. In the previous timeline they also died the same way if Max didn't intervene, so it's also known to the player what happened to them if Max doesn't intervene in the final timeline. The point of this ending is that Max and Chloe put each other above everyone else and leave this town starting a new life together. Max put Chloe above her new friends (Warren, Kate, and all the other residents of Arcadia Bay), Chloe put Max above her mother and everyone else because she let her choose and supported her decision. Not that she doesn't love her mother, but that Max is the most important person in her life (this game and the prequel showed this well) There's no wrong ending here, the writers said so, and the sequel they made takes both into account.
This is the better ending for max because it gives growth to her character. Her powers start because she is in denial of chloe's death, as time went on max travel in every timeline to find chloe is always dead. In the end she has to accept that death is a part of life, and life is indeed strange.
What saddens me most isnt only that Chloe dies, but what she wont know. ꩜ She never learns how much David cares for her, what happened to Rachel (or who killed her), what real happiness felt like, what life would be like if her father never died, and she essentially never saw Max again. Thats really painful. Now if you'll excuse me, (sniff) i need to mop the pond i left on the ground. #BAEOVERBAY *...hate me all you want, but I'll never have the heart to kill Chloe.*
The game is asking you to choose between the ethically correct choice (saving the town), or the one thing Max wants the most (to save Chloe). I like it for that reason, it represents a questioning of the player's core values. Ideally they don't want you to feel entirely good about either decision. The whole message of the game (IMO) is that you can't always make everything right, and sometimes you need to accept what you can't change. I let the town get destroyed. It wasn't necessarily an easy decision but ultimately I had grown more attached to Chloe than any other character. But also I think I kind of did it for symbolic reasons: The idea of two friends holding hands and watching the world end together is very poetic.
The only thing I don't like about the endings is how none of your choices influenced how the game ended. It does influence whether or not Max kiss, and if Kate or Frank attend the funeral. The developers pretty much want you to sacrifice Chloe, but I wish that it kind of made that choice for you based on your past.
jon wong I chose for this ending, even if it was hard for me. But I think it is a better ending than the other one. Just because of this wonderful music.
Yesterday i finished playing for the 3rd time. Been 3 years since i last played it. And thankfully i kinda forgot how the story goes and enjoyed so much.
I finally did this ending after like what 6 years of the game being out and beating it like fifty times.... the part where Joyce almost collapsed killed my stomach so bad. The butterfly and max smiling was the only thing that made this ending ok.
I can't let Chloe die after all that we have seen she is Max's best friend and she is the most important or most loved one to Max in the Arcadia bay. Seeing her die makes me depressed and traumatised 😢 and I can't forget that scene where she is paralyzed and slowly dieing it's worse than a quick death
One of the Hardest choices you make in a game ever. The game really sets you for this by spending time with Chloe and realising your mistake of not reaching up to her alot more. And then at the end you choose if you can be a hero nobody knows or be make it up to your best friend who is missing you for a long long time. Great game. Great game...
This is the kind of ending that really sticks with you. Especially the fact that all the events that take place in the entire game are known by only two people, Chloe and Max. But now that Chloe had to sacrifice her, Max is left truly left alone and one knows or will ever know what they went through. The sacrifices she made, the struggle and the pain she went thorugh. And even though everyone is now alive thanks to her, it still feels empty and alone.

I don’t know but I just love this ending more than the other one. Now I love Chloe so much and that’s why I feel like this ending has more of an impact on the player and also fits in the themes of what this story is trying to tell better. Max’s whole journey was about learning to let go and realize that she can’t save everyone and that she can’t change fate, no matter how much she loves someone (she realized that with Chloe’s dad and now Chloe herself). I think it was always Chloe’s Destiny to die which is why she kept dying throughout the game, nature was trying to balance which is why the storm was created. By letting Chloe sacrifice herself Max rights the wrong her powers created and loses who she loves most in the process for the greater good. But gains so much more as well, she got that week back with Chloe and helped Rachel’s spirit find peace as well as saving Kate’s life and getting justice on Jefferson’s crimes. She also learned a great deal about herself and was able to learn from her inability to adapt to new situations and change herself for the better. I just feel that the death of Chloe was poetic in a way because she got to go be with Rachel and her father as well as Max learning a life lesson. In the other ending Max is selfish and unhappy (unable to life with the fact that she committed a mass genocide to save one person who was marked for death) to me this ending just makes more sense for the story. Life is truly Strange
I feel this is the best and right ending that was meant to happen. And playing this game, I would have loved Chloe to have survived, but that wasn't the point of this game. It was the butterfly effect, that proved the more and more Max saved Chloe and stalled her death, the more she fucked up the natural order of things, because her action was unnatural. Real, given, but unnatural. Is it fucked up that Chloe never settled things with Max, never knew what happened to Rachel and who killed her, never patched things over with her mom and stepfather, and was ultimately unhappy and miserable in her life? Absolutely. Is it fucked up that Chloe died suddenly, scared and seemingly alone? Yes. Was it what was meant to happen? Yes. Max had to own up to the fact that she was a terrible friend and if she had only stayed in contact with Chloe and had been there for her, even despite the distance, things might, and probably would have been very different. Max can't change the past for the better.
Nor can she change the future for the better. Happy endings are wonderful and all, but in my opinion, not what was meant to happen. Sad as this (true) ending may be, I don't think a lot of people can disagree that it was powerful, and left an impact. Yes, I cried my eyes out, but just because an ending is sad, doesn't mean it's bad.
To be fair though the tornado was before she saw Chloe killed and gone back in time. This leads me to believe that the tornado would have/will happen in this timeline, shortly after Chloe's funeral.
+amsayyy There is a BIG plot-hole on the game that no one noticed yet. In the entire game, Chloe is in danger and almost dies. In Out of Time, she gets shot if Max says to Chloe to shoot at at a car in the junkyard. In the same episode, a train almost kills her. In Dark Room, Jefferson shoots her. In Polarized, she dies by the Tornado while Max is in San Francisco. Why? Because since Max saved Chloe from Nathan in Chrysalys, the timeline needs to kill her so it can go back to normal. Then in the ending, we see that Max stops the Tornado by letting Chloe die in the bathroom. Then that means the Tornado was caused by Chloe being saved from Nathan. But since Chloe actually DIES being shot by Jefferson in Dark Room, shouldn't this mean that the Tornado shouldn't come to destroy Arcadia Bay? Now, we have to think about the climax of Chaos Theory: When Max goes back in time 5 years ago and saves William from the car accident. If we follow the logic of what happened with Chloe after Max saved her in Chrysalys, shouldn't the universe try to kill William later? Then why nothing happened to him? And still following the logic, why did nothing like "snowflakes, eclipse, dead animals, two moons" happened in the gap between 2008 (when Max was still 13 and saved William in the alternate timeline) and 2013 (when Max turned 18) ? I do also think that the tornado will still happen in this timeline.
+amsayyy From what I understand, when Max appears in the now present overlooking Acardia Bay at the lighthouse, it's the precise moment she was just in with Chloe. Just because she had a premonition of the tornado before she saved Chloe's life in the bathroom, doesn't mean the tornado would happen regardless. It meant the tornado would happen if what she did next would come to fruition: obviously saving her life, even if she didn't know it was Chloe then.
I chose to sacrifice Chloe because to me personally, time traveling is wrong and the timeline should not be messed with. And if Life is Strange and Horizon were connected, this choice is the canon ending.
I am so late to the LIS party only having gotten into it this year and I am in actual tears. What made me finally break down was Chloe telling Max to sacrifice her but do it quick, because she was scared
The first time I watched this was on UA-cam cause I did the other ending cause IDK which to pick. It was sad but even sadder when I picked it myself in my second playthrough. :(
I don’t understand why the creators couldn’t have made a third ending where you are giving the chance to intervene again in the bathroom. Max decides to take the bullet for Chloe because she can’t bear the thought of killing her best friend and going on with life. But unlike Chloe, she doesn’t die. The scene would change to a photo of Nathan being pinned down by David Madden while paramedics race over to a crying Chloe holding an unconscious Max. The photo would change to Nathan confessing everything, Jefferson getting arrested, Rachel Amber found by police. The photo would change to Max and Chloe hugging tightly in the hospital with David and Joyce standing in the background. (Max recovering from being shot.) The photo could change to the entire Blackwell staff and students celebrating and welcoming Max and Chloe back into school. Frank realizing that his “Lioness” (Rachel) is gone, decides to leave Arcadia Bay, freeing Chloe from her debt. The photo would shoot him leaving in his Rv while Chloe watches. The photo would change into Max and Chloe hanging out like old times again, chillin at the diner, hanging out at the dorms with Kate, Warren and etc. Then, years later, Max and Chloe would visit Rachel’s grave once again. They would be much older, holding bouquets and laying them next to her tombstone. Max would give Chloe a moment by herself before taking her hand so they can go back to her truck and leave together. That right there would have been a better third ending to this game. That Max decides to use her time freeze ability again to put herself between Nathan and Chloe, just as the gun goes off but the bullet hits her instead. She survives and nobody dies.
love this, but as max was quite literally altering time (even if it wasn’t her choice to have that power), there wasn’t meant to be a good ending to come out of how much she changed. making a decision that would change the original outcome at all would’ve probably had the storm reach arcadia bay eventually bc it would alter the course of everything
this ending makes me so emotional because of the meaning behind it. throughout the whole game, Max tries to keep Chloe from dying (getting shot, getting hit by a train, etc) and they try to figure out what happened to Rachel, meanwhile Kate tries to commit suicide because she never felt that she got closure from what happened to her, so if you think about it, everything would've been resolved if Chloe died like she was meant to in the beginning. Nathan and Mr. Jefferson would've been arrested, the reason for Rachels disappearance would've been discovered, and Kate most likely wouldn't have tried to kill herself. this game is mind blowing.
The save Chloe ending in my opinion, didnt leave a mark on me as this one did. So max and Chloe just ride off into the sunset singing kumbaya and max is gonna live the rest of her life miserable with the guilt of sacrificing an entire town, slowly eating away at her. it might have felt right in the moment but I just dont see them having a great life after that. This ending however left more of an emotional impact on me, Chloe despite disliking the town, decided to save it , and also this cutscene was way more emotional. What saddens me the most would be Chloe dying without knowing her step dad was trying his best, Rachel finding justice, and being with max again. Pirates together in the after life it is...
@HI3 No nathan gets arrested the family reputation is ruined and literally all your friends besides chloe die. Also Max is depressed in the other ending, in this one she is happy.
I don't understand how people think saving chloe is the good ending. Even though sacrificing her leads to a sadder ending, it still feels right and makes the story complete.
I'm so glad that i chose this ending, it feels so much more fullfilling. They just left the destroyed town in the "sacrifice arcadia bay" ending without even looking for chloe's mum, warren or everyone else.
Right? I felt alone watching all these comments although i feel the sentiment over chloe's death but saving the bay seems the most satisfying ending. I chose saving chloe on my first playthrough but it wasn't really satisfying than this ending.
Yeah, both endings are sad but this is even depressible. Max is the only one aware of everything that happened, no one there knows anything, neither that Chloe gave her life to save Arcadia. She dies thinking that Max never came back and forgot her, that Rachel maybe did too, and that her stepfather was the worst. I couldn't imagine Max's life without the person she perhaps loved the most and who was her greatest happiness.
3 hours after finishing the game and I'm still crying. The Chloe's body on bathroom floor just crushed me, one of the biggest impacts I've ever experience in a video game, move, book etc. So I'm just going back to crying I think....
KrypticWolf- You know I just found this game randomly scrolling through PlayStation store and saw it so I downloaded it & then I was hooked!!!!!!! I played every night. But for some reason I lost touch with it and never passed it myself. Then fucking Watch Mojo thumbnail ruined it for me!!!! I never suspected Mr. Jefferson as the way he turned out to be so then after I was spoiled there, I just ended watching gameplay of the rest of the game. Nonetheless, this game has to be put down as one of the best gaming experiences of all time. The music/soundtracks combined with the graphic design, to the story and character development. This game is such a Gem 💎 A real marvel in the gaming industry. 👍🏼
We're the same age. But even since 2016 i chose to sacrifice Chloe because i knew it's the right decision. And i finished the game for the 3rd time yesterday.
I’m two years younger than you right now. As a child I believed sacrificing Chloe was the way to go. Now I’m older and I choose to keep her safe every time. And I would do it over and over and over again if it came down to it. I don’t believe there’s a right and wrong choice. Both are right and wrong in their own ways.
i was 13 then, and i chosed to sacrfice Chloe since then. It still haunts me to this year but i think this is the canon ending, even for the authors, they putted so much effort in this ending compared to the one where Chloe lives. Even if it hurts so much, she litteraly tells you to sacrfice her to save everyone, accepting to die knowing that everyone hates her, that her best friends left her ecc.
I think the lesson of Life Is Strange is that in some cases, you can be so attached to something or someone that you can't detach. Like Rachel when she wanted to leave Arcadia Bay to return to Los Angeles or Max going to Seattle, they couldn't because she was so attached to the town, while Max returned. The lesson that if a place where you lived was your childhood, you can always physically leave it, but can never emotionally leave it.
I've been playing violent shooter games like Doom, World At War, Wolfenstein and more for years. But this specific gunshot at 6:28, is so powerful, up to the point I started to feel the chill down my spine and started crying.
And let me remind you, when chloe dies she doesn't even know anything that has happened or that max was even in the town. To me this makes it even sadder.
Exactly, I was thinking she knew, but she died in the beginning so she doesn’t even know what her and max went through, neither does anyone else. That’s what really ruined me
I BAWLED my eyes out when I chose this option. I played this game 6 times and only chose to sacrifice Chloe ONCE! And I cried so hard. That shows how much Chloe’s character means to me..
She was selfish at the beginning and throughout the entire game, but she redeemed herself by asking max to sacrifice her for arcadia bay, u must be too obsessed if u decide to sacrifice an entire TOWN full of precious lives for just one petty person 😊
@@zeratulzeratulovich6597 like i said in my last comment 😂: saving one over thousands isn't a heroic move either bro, the game wouldn't be a life lesson if you chose that choice. That is the selfish ending. Its only facts.
@@CCstars777. What is the lesson? About letting go? This happens in both endings - either Max lets Chloe go for the city, or she lets go of the city (the place where she was born and raised) and her new friends (Kate and Warren) for Chloe. Well, let's say it's selfish. And? Besides, what's wrong with Max not ending up as a hero? Not all stories have to end heroically. In one ending, Max is the hero, in the other, Max is the antihero. It was hardly possible at the beginning to assume that this sweet, modest girl would do this, but the past week has hardened her and shown that yes, she would do anything for Chloe.
I’m not sure why I’m back here😭 I love lis so damn much. Chloe dying is one of the hardest scenes in this series for me still. She didn’t even know that all this happened, she died thinking everyone abandoned her. Max and Chloe deserve so much better🥺 And the way Max smiles after seeing the butterfly😭
No matter what people say, I always hated this fucking ending. It upset me so much. I'm a dude that doesn't cry for much, it takes a lot but it really hurt when I saw all the photos burning into different scenarios, erasing chloe from the timeline. it sucked so bad. No matter how much I replayed the game, I could never bring myself to pick this ending
Guys it's okay. In the end of this clip, the butterfly that resembles chloe's sole comes by and max realizes that its chloe which is why she smiles. Don't cry about chloe not knowing anything bc its false
I wouldn't believe it's Chloe as some say, the butterfly was in the bathroom just before she died. That part at the end has a very ambiguous interpretation.
When you think about it. Chloe was meant to die in almost all episodes in the game until the player decided to change her fate: In episode 1, from nathan. In episode 2, she accidentally shot herself when she tried to shoot a car bumper. In episode 3, she was stuck in a railway track and was about to get killed from a running train. In episode 4, Jefferson shot her. In episode 5, the storm kills her when you decide to go to los angeles for that hero contest. Or Jefferson murder from the previous case. I get the message from this ending that one shouldn't play with the law of nature even if it is cruel. It will ultimately course back to its path. Guess death was Chloe's ultimate death. Then, other ending is making a new fate while accepting the ramifications. Pretty sure, in the other ending everybody in Arcadia bay dies except chloe and max given from the one scene where you find warren for the old photo. Since you weren't there to save them anymore they'll die.
I can’t even play these LIS games anymore ‘cause every damn time I finish playing them, I feel emptiness, sadness and rethink all my life decisions. The first time I watched a LIS gameplay was unbelievable. The roller coaster of emotions and binge watching the episodes.. it was insane. A life changing experience. I’m not even joking. One of the BEST written video games ever.
I chose this ending, and I'm sticking to it. I chose to sacrifice somebody who willingly told me to do it (painful as it was) over sacrificing hundreds of people who had no say in the matter and did not deserve to die like that. Not that Chloe did, of course. Both endings are sad, but I felt this one was more... Fitting.
Same. The choice to destroy Arcadia Bay is just so selfish. You'll save Chloe but then kill her mother and everyone Max loves. What was the point of crying when Kate tried to commit suicide when you just kill her later? No matter what happens, Chloe will die. That's just how it has to happen. I'm sad about Chloe but so glad i chose this ending and it was perfect.
If you weren't already sad enough if you read the headstone, she's buried next to her father.
And I thought I was crying before
bruh I didn't cry and I was recently at my own dads funeral I lowered the casket and I didn't cry...the ending was terrible and didn't hit me in the heart... do...do you think its anyone else or...am I just... cold hearted? cuz my dads death did that...
Nah don't worry I've never cried at a funeral either. Everyone copes with death in different ways.
At first I was like: 😢
Now that I read this I'm like: 😭
Too bad HE went to heaven

Nathan: Come on dude I was just kidding look hit me back

I was Hella upset for the ending but your comment me made me laugh a bit.Thank You.
This ending also shows that frank really did care about chloe even though they had problems with each other
Forget the horror here
And an even more hurting thing is in this reality Max has to live knowing Chloe didn't have those happy memories of that time they spent together after her return from Seattle to Arcadia Bay. Because she perished in that girl's room before everything even happened. She didn't even know Max was in town. She died believing she was abandoned by everyone and especially by Max. She never knew Max loved her so much and would do anything for her or saved her life so many times. Except... for the last time.
sure,
And that's the reason why i loved Chloe so much after playing this game that i sacrificed the whole town
@@deadlydangaming nah, she was annoying. I kinda blame Max for letting Chloe know her abilty to change the time. You gotta go, gottta go.

What makes this death saddest to me is the fact that Chloe died thinking Max and Rachel both abandoned her

Did I get it right?
.. Fuck this ending tho. It's not existent to me and Arcadia Bay was a shit hole anyway.

I really can't give enough credit to the amazing performance of Ashley Burch as Chloe in this game. She poured so much of herself into this character. This performance is one of the one's I always turn to for inspiration on voice acting. Really, incredible job.

Why is no one talking about the living hell Joyce must be going through? She lost her husband AND her daughter, that's absolutely HEARTBREAKING
I have a teacher who is the mother of one of my best friends; and last year she discovered ON THE SAME DAY that both her mother and her son had cancer, her mother died and she still suffers from that a year after she passed away, her son (my friend) was in a pretty serious condition but he thankfully survived the disease. I could never begin to comprehend the pain that woman went through and I admire her so much for that; now imagine loosing the two most important people of your whole life man... Joyce does not deserve that AT ALL, as we can see she could barely even walk to Chloe's coffin, that's so fucking sad
yeah but the thousands of other people being devastated that everyone they know is dead would be much worse
@@circleinforthecube5170 I'm not saying that it's not, I'm just saying that Joyce's life is really suffered
Losing both your husband and daughter would be very heartbreaking.

Yes. But it`s her/your choice

I just burned the hole town. FUCK ARCADIA BAY, chloe and max together worth all their lives
Victor Hugo Vieira kind of how I seen it, the presscotts own the town anyway

And Max remembers too much.
She'll be dead, of course she wont remember anything?
She died not knowing how much David loved her... 🥺🤧
i like to think when she died she will remember all the realities

In the span of a single week:
*1. Max learns to open up to others and show genuine concern for them.* Though you can argue that they were superficial at first because of the game mechanic of rewinding, but overtime she does understand that despite it all, she wants what's best for others

It was so heartwarming to see Max inch towards Warren at the funeral, as if she was looking for shelter after all what happened.
In this timeline, Chloe never knew Max would come back to her
Why you most hurt me like this🥲
she probably knew from the afterlife, and she gets to be with her father

if Chloe's spirit is represented by the blue butterfly then she definitely knew.
I like how Chloe seems to pause in the middle of saying “stepfather”. Good character moment.
Frank is such a comfort character and I was kinda crying a lil bit when Chloe died but as soon as I saw Frank at her funeral wow... I just- I just started balling my eyes out .
Old comment but as soon as I saw him I died a little inside

I don't think Chloe died thinking Max abandoned her, because, after all, she lives as the blue butterfly spirit, which she could pass through all the realities that happened with her and Max. And I think she awoke Max's powers so that Max could spent more time with her. And the last encounter at the funeral shows that Chloe thanks Max for the good time and the decision to save the other people instead.

Shit I’m stuck I don’t know what to choose 😭😭😭
@@NoU-pf8fc I personally sacrificed Chloe. I loved Chloe but what kind of person would I be if I let countless innocent people and animals die just to save one person? That’s not right.
I know how you fell, but it was the only one right choice even it's hard to admit. The rescue of Chloe in the ladyroom and Max's supernatural power caused the storm which would destroy the city because of that. Sacrificing Chloe and given-up the power cancel the tragedy. It's really heartbreaking but it has to be accepted. It's the cruel philosophy of the game...
No, not really impossible. I'm not going to destroy the world for some annoying bitch who fucks everything up
as much as i'd hate myself for it, i think i'd have to sacrifice Chloe because it wouldn't seem right to let everyone else die
I sacrificed Arcadia bay
I just noticed that Kate comfort Joyce during the funeral... this is so sad. Poor Joyce she lost her husband and now her daughter and poor max , she is the only one who knew about what happened
This ending literally made me cry. This one is so much more put together and makes more sense than the other. Like the diner was still there? Why didn't they check for any survivors in the city? I feel like they worked more on this one than the alternative.
I think the original idea was to make this the only ending, but they gave you a choice because they knew people would be mad and freak out otherwise.
+Greg D very intelligent/wise comment
I didn’t understand that you meant before the storm and got so confused for a second
@@miaksol actually that story was not developed at the time so no one knew Chloe and Frank had that history it wasn't written then
I think Frank genuinely liked Chloe until he got the idea that she was somehow sabotaging Rachel and/or his relationship with Rachel...

+Luciano Vargas You had them killed didn't you?
This is the TRUE ending. The blue butterfly IS Chloe, as the deer was Rachel. The blue butterfly in the beginning was a way of Chloe reaching out beyond her deaths in all the timelines, and landing on the bucket, was a way of telling Max that where she needed to be was hidden away and to let Chloe die. Chloe did for Max what Rachel did for Max/Chloe--act as a guide in the form of a spirit animal.
Exactly, I'm of the same belief.
Not that she doesn't love her mother, but that Max is the most important person in her life (this game and the prequel showed this well)
There's no wrong ending here, the writers said so, and the sequel they made takes both into account.
She never learns how much David cares for her, what happened to Rachel (or who killed her), what real happiness felt like, what life would be like if her father never died, and she essentially never saw Max again. Thats really painful.
Now if you'll excuse me, (sniff) i need to mop the pond i left on the ground.

Not only that but Max altered reality WAY too many times just to save Chloe, like enough is enough.

+stefannofornari™ the butterfly effect
My God, I didn't even choose this ending and I'm in tears.. This game has ruined me.

SupaCoolGMan I chose this ending the second time, and it felt more.. right, despite how depressing it is..
+Sofea Amizi the same here second time then same ending ever since
Sofea Amizi So did I when I did my 2nd playthrough of LiS. I actually cried far more than I did the first time seeing it on UA-cam.

Relatable
It gets sadder and sadder the more I see this game
If you guys regret sacrificing arcadia bay and think chloe live in regret then maybe you have to read lis's comic
I don't understand how people think saving chloe is the good ending. Even though sacrificing her leads to a sadder ending, it still feels right and makes the story complete.

@@lands8805 it's David, and I'm pretty sure what he says depends on your ending choice in the first game.

ikr
I though i made the wrong choice, but seeing Warren, Joyce, David, Kate, Frank and MOSTLY Pompidou, i knew i made the right choice
Right? I felt alone watching all these comments although i feel the sentiment over chloe's death but saving the bay seems the most satisfying ending. I chose saving chloe on my first playthrough but it wasn't really satisfying than this ending.
I failed to do that
I chose to accept Chloe's fate as I failed to fulfill her last request to Max in the alternate reality
I think Chloe is now the blue butterfly, just like how Rachel is the deer. Considering max’s smile when the butterfly lands it makes since
Even after watching this a few times, it can’t convince me to sacrifice Chloe. No way.
Same, plus I cry my eyeballs out everytime I watch it.

Well, let's say it's selfish. And?
Besides, what's wrong with Max not ending up as a hero? Not all stories have to end heroically. In one ending, Max is the hero, in the other, Max is the antihero. 12:05 Deep Down And In The End... Frank Really Cared... He Couldnt Deny It
Character With The Best Character Development
Don’t forget about Dave
Or he wanted his money. Joke
It wasn’t even development for the most part. It was just understanding a morally complex character which I found so good about the game

@@ravensucks I WAS EATING THOSE BEANS
No matter what people say, I always hated this fucking ending. It upset me so much. I'm a dude that doesn't cry for much, it takes a lot but it really hurt when I saw all the photos burning into different scenarios, erasing chloe from the timeline. it sucked so bad. No matter how much I replayed the game, I could never bring myself to pick this ending
makes a grown man cry
I didn’t realized that Chloe’s mom is in such a pain that she almost falls on the ground while walking towards her daughter.
CHLOE'S THE BUTTERFLY.
RACHELS THE DEER
My ass is Max

Guys it's okay. In the end of this clip, the butterfly that resembles chloe's sole comes by and max realizes that its chloe which is why she smiles. Don't cry about chloe not knowing anything bc its false
I'd like to think she smiles because she's thinking about using the butterfly picture again

but the pictures that burn of their memories tho?
@@draco8581 no, all she has to do is the same thing she did before to save chloe then it’ll all play out again until the storm
I wouldn't believe it's Chloe as some say, the butterfly was in the bathroom just before she died. That part at the end has a very ambiguous interpretation.
When you think about it. Chloe was meant to die in almost all episodes in the game until the player decided to change her fate:
In episode 1, from nathan.
Fitting.
I chose this ending as well
Julio3324 WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU??
Jax T I chose this ending too. It felt more like an ending and odds are Max would just keep saving Chloe for the rest of her life.
Julio3324 Same here as well.
