Scrim is a stabilizer inside the batting (wadding). The wadding gets needle punched through to keep it in shape. It means you can space your quilting farther apart. It also can make hand stitching more difficult.
I buy fabric the same way you do - on spec. I rarely know how I'm going to end up using it. You've bought some beautiful pieces. I use a cotton batting/wadding all the time for the quilts I make. Haven't found the scraps hard to stitch through by hand. In fact, I enjoy hand stitching with a batting foundation. 😊 Carolyn must have a terrific stash to be able to share so much with you! What a good friend she is.
I'm still working on how to make the best of it 😁 Carolyn is rather like me and can't resist a bargain or pretty materials. And yes, she is a very good friend ☺️❤️
Just found you! 😊 think I'm going to really enjoy your podcast. I crochet, knit, and sew wish for some of your beautiful fabrics. Taught myself how to embroider over Covid time.
Great haul, I have had one of those bobble purse closures (no kit ) for ages, I spied one this week with a crochet purse attached to this closure, quite tempted to try and make it, instead of using fabric, looking forward to seeing yours when you get round to it 😊🌟🌈

Crochet I would be more comfortable with, but I will give it a go 😁 ❤️
I think you will make it fun, probably add a little bit of your sparkle to it and it will fit right in lol 😁🤗🌈

Your purse is English paper piecing. I think you’re going to love it. You might want to check out a how to video.
