This video was shot in 70s - at the peak of hang gliding on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Enjoy this footage of vintage Outer Banks living and the beautiful array of hang gliders at Jockey's Ridge. You may recognize the beach road and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse!
This film came to us on rolls and we have had it converted to a format that we can now share. The film plays in most of our stores and now is available online.
We received this video from an attendee at the time - however as time has passed we have lost contact with that person. If you know who shot this film please let us know - we'd love to reach out and give some credit where credit is due!

That seagull pilot at the end was killing it! I got into hg in ‘83. Miss it terribly!

My dad, Peter Milne, is shown taking off at 15:04 and crashes at 15:29. He's flying a kite he built--The Icarus. We were so excited when my son found this footage. Dad is 88 years old and still designing and making things and while he's not flying anymore, he's still very active. He walked away from this crash, but it's pretty scary to see now. Thank you so much for converting the film to video and posting. xoxo

Would he enjoy talking about it? I would love to give him a call and talk about flying the Icarus. I'm building an Easy Riser but had a setback in that project when I had a mishap testing my Mitchell Wing.

@@claythomas9509 thank you for reaching out. Dad's hearing makes it hard to do calls, but email would be great. You can email him via his website: petermilneartist.wordpress.com/

I flew there in 1976 and 1977. Great memories. First in my "Electraflyer Nimbus" and thin in my "Sunbird Strato."

Wow, great history shown here! I learned with George, Billy, Bruce and the KHK "crew" during the winter of 89-90 and things had changed a lot by then; it's really fun to see what the place looked like in the early years...

Rare footage of an early Kestrel and Peregrine. Very creative time.

Awesome old footage!! I was there a few days ago jockeys ridge is maybe a 1/3 as tall as it was then! I wish I could’ve seen it back then. Glad to hear the guy that crashed was ok that was a violent landing.

Tom Peghiny is with Terry Sweeney most of the footage! Excellent nostalgic video with escellent music! Neil Diamound is a fitting match! Thanks for sharing!

No kidding Steve, that looked like a blast! I didn't start flying hang glider until Jan 1976, just after boys came to Tusk in Sept 1975, I learned on Jim Hutching's Lark! :)

That Easy Riser that crashed at 15:05-15;30 was bad. Anyone know who that is? What happened there? Any post crash analysis from EZ guys?

That's Terry Sweeny at around 2:40 with the black hair and beard. The Seagull was his design.

I am betting for the pilot at 15:05, it was his last flight.
