Tradition of Langar "free meal" was started by 1st Guru "Guru Nanak" of Sikhi around 500 years ago . His father gave Guru Nanak 20 rupees to invest in a some sort of business but instead he fed hungry group of people with those 20 rupees..Those 20 rupees resulted in this 24/7 phenomenon of Langar and its been going nonstop in most Gurudwaras for last 500 years.
