Thanks for this essential review. The sound quality on this album is incredible. I think it's an absolute crime that producer Peter Cobbin's enormous talent wasn't utilized to remaster the ENTIRE Beatles catalog! Cheers.
That's the song that made me rush to the store to purchase the album...back in January of (1968).Boo on Mark Lewisohn for hating that song! He's the Beatles current biographer..by the way.
Without doubt, this is a fabulous album, Andrew, which I bought on release day on cd. I was knocked out by how good the remixes sounded! Thoroughly recommended!
Nice video. I agree, this is a must. Good mix of songs. Although, from time to time I do enjoy listening to George Martin's pieces of music. Always wondered why they didn't include the longer version of "It's all too much" with the extra verse on this compilation. Would have made a good selling point. Favorite track, "It;s all too much".
I liked the George Martin orchestral soundtrack. Being a 14 year old freshman in high school back in January of 1968, I rushed out to buy it at the local "Thrifty/Payless" store. I obviously loved side one....then played side two with the orchestral score, scratched my head, then listened to it again a few times for a month. I noticed that it was quite a lovely score.(the same could be said about the "Wonderwall" soundtrack.) Since that time, I will always associate George Martin's score with the original LP. After all, it was major part of the "Yellow Submarine" film.
A wonderful video, Andrew. I agree the 1999 Yellow Submarine release is under appreciated and rarely talked about. Why do you think that is? What a shame because it sounds AMAZING. It was wonderful they included all The Beatles songs from the film (minus A Day In The Life). I agree with you the standout tracks are Hey Bulldog and It’s All Too Much and this is also the version of the album I most often listen to. Thanks for bringing attention to this often neglected release. Cheers!
Nice video Andrew In America we got the 6 songs plus the George Martin stuff I liked the Martin music 🎶 I have the soundtrack too They are both great. I might pick up the DVD now.
Hey Andrew, thank you thank you thank you so much for doing this video. I have a feeling there's a ton of people that don't even know about this album let alone that it has been remixed. I can't explain it but for some reason I forgot all about this album and was going through my boxes and boxes of beatle stuff found this played it this was like a couple years ago and just was mind-blown at the sound cuz I just bought a new pair of headphones. The sound quality on this CD is frigging amazing. When I heard Ringo's snare drum on 'It's all too much' I just went holy shit. Again this CD is a must for all Beatles fans and everybody else. Great job Andrew. From Tripper
(1) This is an absolutely fantastic collection of songs from the 1965-67 years. (2) Except for the studio tracks on Anthology, this was the only mastering from the original tapes until the Sgt Pepper remix (except for the Love muck-ups).
I have this album 3 times. Once on Yellow vinyl and twice on cd. One cd in the jewel case and the other in digipak. Loved the album when came out. Loved how they centred the vocals etc. Hey Bulldog being my fave. The one thing I can not hear is the slightly out of sync vocals at the beginning of Eleanor Rigby.
I have the yellow vinyl, the CD, and the Surround Sound DVD. None of these songs sound better elsewhere. Glad for the George Martin instrumentals on the DVD. Some of that orchestration is absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks for your review, Andrew!! I love the song mixes from the Songtrack!! Just an FYI: There was enough room on the CD to place all of The Beatles songs that are in the film and the George Martin music...
I didn't read all 59 comments but I don't know if anybody mentioned that for the first time "only a northern song" was in full stereo. It was in mono on the original soundtrack album. Excellent remixes by Peter Cobbin. I only got it on cd this year after finding out about the remixes. Peter did a much better mix of "Nowhere Man" than Giles Martin. All the reverb was eliminated from the vocals on Giles' mix.
A happy new year to you Andrew & I have to agree as the YS Songtrack album is awesome with Stella mixes of all songs some up there with the later Giles Martin mixes & it's one I'd love to see given the full box set treatment with a plethora of extras..... Great video as always.
I love the YS Songtrack album too. I don't miss the GM instrumentals and like the flow of the tracks. Generally the mixes are good to great, especially Hey Bulldog which IMHO is far superior to Giles Martin's recent mix, with a fuller and more bassy sound.
The new 1999 DVD also includes the Hey Bulldog segment that was cut from the original movie release. Kind of reminiscent of the ABC-TV Beatles Cartoon Show.
Hi Andrew, when the 1999 version of the Yellow Submarine album was released I thought it was about time they finally improved on it by entirely removing the George Martin orchestration that was featured on side 2 of the original 1969 album & just include more of the songs that were featured in the original cartoon film, but I do agree why the heck they left off "A Day In The Life"?, the orchestration bit was featured in the film sequence as the cartoon Beatles were entering the submarine but why was it left off the new album?, also I was completely amazed when I unwrapped the shrink-wrap & opened the gatefold?... an incredible mass of artwork montagè from the film!, plus the improved listing of songs including all the songs (except "A Day In The Life") from the film, I was lucky to get the original yellow coloured vinyl edition as it was when it was first released in Australia in 1999 🇦🇺 ,after I played the album for the first time I immediately dumped the original 1969 album to the rubbish bin & thought why the heck didn't E.M.I released the album like THIS in the first place in January 1969?, no disrespect to Sir George Martin but side 2 of the original album was absolutely boring!, this is obviously why the original album was not well liked by so many fans worldwide & more likely dubbed as a "half Beatles album"?, I have 2 Beatles collections (vinyl & c.d) & both collections have since contain the 1999 album instead of the 1969 original, why?... because it's better!! 🎶👍
I got the CD of song track. I love only a northern song because it's in stereo on the song track. The regular yellow submarine album is only in Mono. Only a northern song sounds great in stereo compared to the mono version.
I would hardly say it was forgotten. Far from it, and Lennon didn’t think much of Hey Bulldog, by the way, and he is on tape saying “Put it on the Yellow Submarine album” as a way of saying it was a throwaway.
Great vid Andrew and yes, a great album. Any thoughts on why the original release date was Jan 69? Surely would have been better to come out to tie in with the movie release in summer 68....?? As it was it just got lost behind the White Album which was still very new.
Personally I'm not a fan of the Giles Martin remixes. I find he overdoes the bass and loses the dynamism that original Beatles LPs have. Peter Cobbin, on the other hand, shows a deft touch and creates something that lifts the tracks without losing the magic. It's a shame he left EMI to start his own company as I think, if he had remixed Sgt. Pepper, Abbey Road, Let It Be and Revolver, we would now have definitive best versions.
I hated the George Martin stuff- half a Beatles album. Plus some songs already released. Only a couple of new songs. The only Beatles album i dont like.
Andrew I feel that best version of the Beatles Yellow Submarine” Is not the version your advocating although it’s a great lp-however Its the original version with the George Martin Soundtrack =that is the best version!
Thanks for this essential review. The sound quality on this album is incredible. I think it's an absolute crime that producer Peter Cobbin's enormous talent wasn't utilized to remaster the ENTIRE Beatles catalog! Cheers.
You are spot on. The best version and fuller sounding version of YS. My favorite track is Nowhere man!
George Martin’s Orchestral works on Side 2 on the original album are stunning.
Great remixes, great sound.
In my opinion It's All Too Much is one of the Beatles best songs.
THE best!
That's the song that made me rush to the store to purchase the album...back in January of (1968).Boo on Mark Lewisohn for hating that song! He's the Beatles current biographer..by the way.

The songtrack album is what I originally expected to have in Jan 1969. I only wish that the 8:17 version of its all too much was included .
Nice video. I agree, this is a must. Good mix of songs. Although, from time to time I do enjoy listening to George Martin's pieces of music. "Hey Bulldog" is a sublime song. "It's All Too Much" is psychedelic mastery.
Nice video Andrew

Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching.

I bought this CD when it was released and I love it due to some terrific mixes. Especially the songs from Rubber Soul.
Same here but I don't have it on yellow vinyl though.. wish I did

Still got my cd and cassette i bought in 1999.
With my Vhs copy.
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful day ❤😊

Happy New year to you too. Thanks for watching.
Thank you. Had it been release originally as it was years later, it might not be the usual bottom of the list for "best of" or Fav of Fabs!
One of the best sounding remix albums-- hands down. Sounds better than anything on the AI remixes found on red and blue albums.
I also a VCD of the yellow submarine film
It’s comprised of great remixes!
Actually, the soundtrack is pretty interesting, with good speakers, it really rocks.
I love the YS Songtrack album too. I don't miss the GM instrumentals and like the flow of the tracks. Generally the mixes are good to great, especially Hey Bulldog which IMHO is far superior to Giles Martin's recent mix, with a fuller and more bassy sound.

Yes cut from the us version. The UK always had it.

Sorry...but I"m one of those people who enjoy the Martin soundtrack stuff. I love it......and I love the Beatles stuff too of course.
I got the CD of song track. I love only a northern song because it's in stereo on the song track. The regular yellow submarine album is only in Mono. Only a northern song sounds great in stereo compared to the mono version.
I have mine. Yellow vinyl
I would hardly say it was forgotten. Far from it, and Lennon didn’t think much of Hey Bulldog, by the way, and he is on tape saying “Put it on the Yellow Submarine album” as a way of saying it was a throwaway.

I guess the beatles wasn't very bothered with this album. So not bothered when it came out.
I also have it on Cassette
The record company did not take the Beatle releases very seriously during the Beatle years.Record companies were all about making g money.
Is the DVD/CD a four disc set? That's all I could find. Please reply on my Beatles group thanks
Sorry I don't know what your group is called. I found it on amazon. One disc. amzn.eu/d/dIrcoml
Bought the CD in the US
I'm I alone in feeling that "Nowhere Man" sounds out of place on the soundtrack album?
Personally I'm not a fan of the Giles Martin remixes. I find he overdoes the bass and loses the dynamism that original Beatles LPs have. I think as paul and ringo are the only remaining beatles, the bass and drums are a little louder. To Giles
@@AndrewBrooks I just think he isn't that good. If he was anybody other than George Martin's son he wouldn't have got the gig.
Remixed…By George…
I’m rejecting the premise…nothing about the Beatles has been “overlooked”.
Hey Bulldog. Its only a northern song and Its all too much are classic tracks
1:09 1:17 1:18
Hey Bulldog, always in my top ten
I hated the George Martin stuff- half a Beatles album. Plus some songs already released. Only a couple of new songs. The only Beatles album i dont like.
The George Martin composed music isn’t worth listening to. The Beatles songs are fine (All Too Much is a wild George Harrison song).
Fantastically confused intro making no sense whatsoever managing to conflate three different albums without any clarity. Wonderful word salad.
Andrew
I feel that best version of the Beatles Yellow Submarine”
Is not the version your advocating although it’s a great lp-however
Its the original version with the George Martin
Soundtrack =that is the best version!
