  • In this video I have an easy scrap metal project I’m welding together using old angle iron and bed rails. I’m building a stand that holds up Harbor Freight’s Central Machinery 5 ton log splitter to help make it easier on my back to split wood.

I just used a left over metal stand from my woodworking shop, fit well, just used a hook type bolt to bolt it on from the center bottom. And you are certainly correct, working with this unit at floor level is a PITA, but getting it up at waist level is so much easier on my 74 year old back! HA HA

Derek what up man, you need a heater in there! Awesome build on the stand, and that side rack is a great idea (although I guess sounds like you want to improve on it).

Looks like it's solid and it works.
For upgrades maybe grab some expanded steel for the rack side? For the feet wood on one side, but what about adding wheels to the other so you can move it around easier?

I’d like to add some large pneumatic tires. That would be the best. Good idea. Expanded steel would be good, I was thinking the angle iron would kind of catch the wood from rolling off but that’s a good idea too. Thanks man!
