Charmedone9805 yeah the Kmarts in Yorktown, Mahopac, and White Plains used to be Caldor. There are two Kmarts in the Bronx and two in Manhattan. I know there’s at least one in Brooklyn that shares the building with Sears. You can tell they’ve been Caldors because the lights aren’t like you usually see in Kmart. I think you saw my sears video so we’re pretty close to each other. If you have Instagram (or any social media) I would really appreciate if you could send me them to me! It be cool to get in touch!
I think you’re like the only person that would have the pictures. I looked all over the internet and couldn’t find any pics. I wish I was old enough to experience these things myself but pictures are the next best thing. Thanks again!
I remember at the shareholders meeting they said everything was going fine. Then a few days later they declared bankruptcy. The Stoke went from around $30 dollars to about five dollars by the end of the day. It later came out the suits that said everything was fine were selling off as much Stoke as they could before dropping the bad news and still not get arrested for insider trading.
Caldor's has many great memories for me. I loved the place. We would go on Saturday's with My Mom and Brother. Sometimes, My cousin's came along. I was a child at the time and it felt like a magical place to me.
This location is thriving now, LIRR and subways are downstairs, Atlantic Center has Target is in that space, Uniqlo, Buffalo Wild Wings, different restaurants like Applebees, Victoria's Secret, Pandora. Atlantic Center is doing well again so far. Alot of downtown customers that live nearby, Barclays Center, Supermarket, Starbucks. And they also get commuters, I frequent there when waiting for my train, so thats cool or after a Nets game nearby.

Barely any of the chains listed on the mall sign are still around lmao, or even in full capacity like they used to. Marshalls and Old Navy but that's about it.
For ten years I worked for a company called Star Drug Distributors out of West Haven CT that distributed all of Caldor's health and beauty aids and maintained those departments for all their stores. When the May company acquired Caldor in the mid 80s, a decision was made shortly thereafter to supply and maintain all the HBA departments in house rather than using an outside vendor. And so, about a year later and unable to absorb that huge loss, Star Drug went out of business.

Before Target there was a caldor's
Facts
I swear they “Caldor” rebranded; Target is too similar, with a higher price point. I worked at Caldor and they were throwing money away.
