It used to be a barebone with a base variant, now the base itself is getting loaded with features and they have to price it competitively to attract the buyers into the showroom. They won't increase the base, rather they will increase the top-end variant prices or launch a special edition above & below top end to maximize their profits with minor updates. (Yes, that's exactly what TATA is doing)
These companies will increase their car base price to make their profit higher.
