- Our experience road-tripping the all-electric Chevy Bolt from Ohio to Virginia Beach in the summer of 2022. This is part one, make sure to check out part two and see our experience headed back to Ohio. See what it is like to drive an affordable electric car long distance.
For those curious like I was, he said this is a 600 mile trip, that cost him
1st stop: $10.80
2nd stop: $6.40
3rd stop: $10.32
4th stop: $13.76
5th stop: Didn't show, let's assume $15
Total: ~$56.28
I could drive that trip in my prius for $40.
Thanks for the numbers Matt 👍🏼

Good video, we've done a couple road trips in my Bolt but probably won't anymore because my wife just got a Mach-E. It's 300 mile range and MUCH faster charging speed mean it's the new road trip EV for us.
For sure! The bolt is great for its price and if you dont road trip often, but the newer cars charge speeds are so much better
I want to high school in Bedford. Pennsylvania, sheetz it's next to the turnpike entrance.
I make Duck, NC from Rochester NY in 9 1/2 hours. It was my understanding that technologies would make things quicker and easier.
looking at the almost $5 a gallon gas at sheetz makes it feel better to drive that bolt
Purely from the thumbnail, please remember, saltwater loves steel like bobcats love bunnies.
8:24 i said nice the same time lol
Comfort wise how was your trip? I've heard mixes reciews of bolt seats for long road trips
I never had issues with comfort, I have heard that as well. We stretched every few hours when we charged and I was comfortable the whole trip
Thanks for the video.... def would not go the all electric route after watching this and other videos. Lots of stopping/waiting time to charge up with possible problems and lost travel time having to go out of the way sort of to charge. And this is in good weather what if its raining snowing.... freezing or a power outage in route you are traveling. EV is not there just yet.... for me anyhow.
Thanks for watching! You might be interested in my recent Tesla Model 3 video which shows a much smoother EV road trip experience.
@@benjaminwilliams. Thanks brother... I watched the Tesla video seems allot better but thinking for now all EV and road trips not a great idea. What s used Tesla 3 go for that is something I would consider. thanks!
@@MARKO2465 I think they’re around $30,000 USD where I am. That’s totally fair I enjoy all the ins and outs of the EV trips 😁
What year bolt is this? I’m looking at possibly getting a 2020 bolt and it looks like that one
2017!
In the middle of a 600 mile road trip- RVA to Jax. Rented an EV and they gave us a Bolt. So far not so good. Started with full charge. First stop went in to breakfast. Came out to discover charger had cut out after about 2%. Kept doing it. We’re averaging about 35 mph. Would not have done this trip if I had known about the Bolts pathetic charging rate about 1 mile per 30 seconds effectively doubling the trip time. Never again.
But how was the car otherwise?
@@JoeyDNetsfan Pretty average. Not much storage space. Good acceleration but that’s to be expected for an EV. Handled reasonably well. Would be OK around town I guess but I wouldn’t take it more than 50 miles on a trip. It took us more than 16 hours to complete what would have been a 9-10 hour drive. We got Hertz to give us a Tesla for the return. A whole different experience. It still took about an hour longer but the range was about double and took 20 minutes to charge instead of over an hour. Had no problem finding a charger (the Tesla found it for us) and they all worked.
While they have come a long way there is still a long way to go since a 600 mile trip might be 10 gallon fill-up in a PHEV so you wouldn't have wasted 3 hours charging.
Yeah but it’s not an EV……..
