I guess I am intermediate. I am 84 and first crocheted at the age of 5. It keeps me sane. This being said, I have made it a practice to learn something new every month. And….i love you to pieces. Thank you so much.

I have been crocheting for 54 years. I am still learning. I learn the most from you Mikey. So it doesn't matter how long a person has been crocheting. It's wanting to learn different things. I am learning about texture. I have never done a front post crochet until l started watching Mikey. You are an inspiration Mikey to everyone.

I too have been crocheting over 50 years. Still learning which I love. I don’t like to repeat patterns. I prefer new challenges. Mikey is excellent at getting us through challenges. I never read diagrams before Mikey led us through them on one of the cruises where we only had diagrams😳 for the multi over layered pattern … yikes. But now I recently completed a huge pineapple doily in thread via a diagram! Thanks Michael Sellick for the journey

I do agree with you. Sometimes I just want a simple project with no thought involved, sometimes more thought is ok…. I sometimes do 2 projects at the same time and pick up what I’m in the mood for?

I've been crocheting for almost 40 years, and while I "can" do the advanced work I much prefer to be an easy hooker *wink* and intermediate when I feel like something a little more complex. I always love your videos and the way you talk like we are right there with you having a conversation. Thanks for all you do to keep the craft alive!

I'm advanced, but I prefer intermediate and easy patterns most. A lot of my skills are thanks to you personally! Especially reading charts, I really owe you for that. My favorite things about your tutorials is that they all have charts and written patterns to follow along, and that you spend a few minutes explaining the pattern and what it entails before starting the stitching. It really helps me decide whether I want to do the project or not before wasting any time getting started only to realize it's not my vibe, as I'm not always in the mood for certain stitches or counting.

I crocheted for many years but followed patterns. When I started watching crochet designers on UA-cam I start learning new things.
I also saved a library of stitches so that I can go back and learn new stiches when I want. And sometimes I don't always remember how to do a new stitch and by saving the videos I can go back and refresh memory.

    • @secretsquirrel7300

I agree. I can often decide if I'm interested in the project within the first 5-10 minutes, based upon whether or not I like the stitches.

I find many UA-cam crocheters say a pattern is for beginners when it has color changes, stitch changes or intricate stitches (using many rows in the stitch). I understand they want the viewers, but it’s frustrating for new and beginners. I’ve been crocheting more years than many of these UA-camrs have been alive. Lol! But I spent many years making afghans. I’ve been making cardigans for about 3 years. So I had to start kind of at scratch ina sense. Doing top down sweaters is a blast! I am advanced, but struggle with memory problems due to my health. It just takes me a little longer to catch onto something new. Thanks Mickey for all you do and for being you!,

    • @TheCrochetCrowd
      @TheCrochetCrowd  2 роки тому

Saying a project is beginner on UA-cam creates clicks and views. So it's an easy way to gain new followers but what becomes clear if the host is doing this and it's not beginner, it ruins reputations.

Thank you for explaining the standards for grading "easy" to "advanced". When I was beginning, I stumbled when I'd get a pattern that said "easy" but I hadn't learned all the stitches themselves yet. So even though the pattern was easy on an engineering level-- how many repeats, how it was shaped--- if I didn't know all 8 stitches involved to make the pattern it was less than relaxing. Of course, once I mastered it and rose to the challenge I was so proud! Like you say, it's the zen of the journey and the learning :)

I started my crochet journey March of 2021 with a granny square blanket that I found a tutorial for on UA-cam. I did another blanket from Kristin Omdahl, then I found your 'Flower in the Square' pattern and tutorial. Because of you and your gift for teaching, I went from beginner to intermediate relatively quickly. It was my no means easy though!! I think I stopped and started that flower in the square tutorial a million times 😂 until one day, it clicked. The light bulb 💡 came on. Thank you Mikey for all that you do for the crochet crowd. 💙

I started crocheting 8 months ago. I learned by watching UA-cam. Im a nurse , which can be quite stressful. Crocheting helps me de-stress after a tough day at work. Easy level seems to be my sweet spot. It feels like meditation and usually helps me sleep. I just love the colors and textures of working with yarn. I appreciate the information I get from channels like this. I didn't realize that a yarn council existed. I'll look into that.

Thank you for the encouragement Mikey! I’m aways happy with how my finished projects turn out when I follow your tutorials, and I love how you include the pattern, diagrams, and stitch counts in each one. I’ve learned all I know about reading patterns and diagrams from you! Thank you so much!!!
I’ve been crocheting for what seems like forever… But I agree with you… The projects I enjoy the most and keep me engaged are ones where I’m learning something new and pushing my limits… But I have times where I just want to quickly finish a few things so feel like I’m getting more done and so I will choose a pattern that is “Easy” but I’m comfortable in the intermediate level and I’m working to improve my advanced level skills… Clothing is so hard even if the pattern is simple just because I want it to fit the person I’m making it for perfectly and that often means quite a bit of fiddling to get it just right… Where it fits them and the finished product meets my personal standards (🤔 I’m a tad OCD and perhaps a bit of a perfectionist 🤭) But I like to think of every project I crochet as a work of art made by hand with deep love… I don’t ever make anything randomly I always have someone specific in mind when I’m making something and I enjoy the process of making it and thinking about that person with every single stitch!

You are so adorable! I think I am intermediate, I started crocheting when I was 9 yo. My Mammaw and Godmother Marie taught me to do chains and how to basically hold and make slip knots. I picked it back up when I was in my early 20's when my friend and a lady I was taking care of taught me to sc, dc, change colors, and make a chevron afghan blanket. Than in my early 40's I really dug in and watched you, and Mrs. Bod two of my favorite YT's and have learned soooooo much more and have made in the last 7 years countless crochet projects from hats to cardigans to puppets, dolls, amigurumi, valences, and soooo much more! I did some crochet in my 20's, but my free time went away and the project was never finished. I am...well...older now, decided to try crochet again this past winter and have been loving it! Friends that do a LOT of crochet and knitting have complimented me on my work, so I guess I am doing okay. Many of the Beginner patterns became a bit boring for me, the Easy patterns providing a bit more challenge and I just finished your Show Time Crochet Hat, my first Intermediate project. I have been holding off on starting this project for weeks, but finally decided it was time. I am very happy with the finished product. I am with you on skill levels. I like a challenge here and there, love learning new stitches and methods, but often I just want to stitch and relax rather than count stitches! UA-cam has allowed me to watch and learn, making it much easier to know where to put that next stitch. Reading and crocheting from a pattern would not be easy for me at this point.

I started knitting 40 years ago and have been crocheting just 6 years. Even the most advanced knit project pattern is far easier to read than even an "easy" crochet pattern. The first year I crocheted I made the Christmas snowflake afghan that Mike demonstrated here and it turned out gorgeous. I followed his UA-cam tutorial to a "t." So when I crochet, I don't usually read a pattern. I either follow the video or the stitch chart that Mike provides. I'm a retired school teacher of 43 years here. So the biggest group of learners are those who are visual learners coupled with minimal reading. Only 8-10% of a group learn exclusively through reading! Keep up the great tutorials!

I learned diagram symbol years later when my grandmother paternal side gave me patterns from overseas. I consider myself easy to intermediate. Same as others, sometimes I’m in the mood to challenge myself, other times I just want to crochet. I don’t like fussy things so I steer clear of more complicated projects. Thanks for all you do!

Mikey, YOU are the reason I haven't given up on learning to crochet! Your videos are so amazing. I love the way you walk through the pattern with stitch alongs. You are so funny too, I often laugh out loud at things you say off the cuff. Thank you for sharing your gift with us! I just finished the LLama No Drama, I am currently making the Fat Cat Stuffie and a few other projects from watching your videos. Be well!!

I have been Crocheting for over 40 years. I had a babysitter teach me how to chain and double crochet in rows. I made a blanket for my Cabbage Patch kid with her scraps. (yes, I still have both!) She showed me how to do a granny square because she couldn't read herself. In third grade, I found a book with photos at the library and taught myself how to read patterns. Even though it's all supposed to be "standardized through the industry" I still struggle with some patterns. I'm definitely intermediate+. With your help, I'm learning to read diagrams. But I usually have to SEE you demo the stitches to be able to understand and visualize where the pattern is going. I have learned SO MUCH from you over the years. Thank you for continuing to challenge yourself and take us with you along the journey.

I started crocheting again after around thirty or so years of not crocheting. I started a couple of years pre COVID-19 and you are one of the first host I watched. You actually helped me to remember how to hold the yarn again. I had forgotten. I will always be grateful to you. I now crochet so many things again. I can even read most patterns because of watching your tutorials. Your explanations are easy to understand, they were for me. I watch different people but I have 5 favorites, lol and you are one of them😊.

I can't wait to dive further into your tutorials. I love how you talk to us like friends. And if I need to, I can always stop a video and go back. And you'll never get tired of having to repeat yourself for this beginner/easy level crocheter. ; )

First, I want to say thank you for your videos. I am self taught, and wouldn't be where I am today if I didn't have wonderful teachers like you. That said, this video was wonderful. My daughter has been telling me that I am an intermediate crocheter but I still think of myself as an advance beginner. BUT, after this video I realized I AM an intermediate crocheter. And like you, I LOVE learning new stitches and techniques. Thank you for this video. It was extremely helpful. Oh, and I love you using diagrams. Sometimes they make more sense than following a pattern. I like using both together.

I'm a solid intermediate but, as you said, I challenge myself with advanced patterns. But whatever the pattern is, when I get stuck or frustrated, I turn to you, Mikey. You've never failed getting me through a pattern and getting to the point where I complete a project. You're an excellent instructor and a little saucy...which always makes me laugh! Thank you for all the lessons!!! 🧶❤️

That is so true !! Not everyone crochets the same . Easy for me might be an advanced and for some a beginners pattern. Sometimes the teacher gets you , other times I have to “ scavenge” around for another teacher. It’s like being in school you loved your Science teacher, but 40% did not. I hear you ! 👍❤️

Thank you for all you do! Mikey you taught me how to crochet! Many of the projects I pick are because I like the way the finished pattern looks. My very first project was an advanced project. Friends I know who had been crocheting for at least 20years said it was too advanced for me. So I came to UA-cam to learn and was blessed to find you! Finished the football blanket for my nephew. He loves it with its uniqueness! 😎

Hi, when I first learned learned to crochet I wanted easy so I either did a single or double crochet. I then learned a granny square. That was it. I made projects in DC. I got tired of it and took a break which turned out to be 20 years. I learned a lot of new stitches. It is thanks to Mikey that I love t o crochet!!

I think you are the best teacher. I have made an afghan with you which was a challenge, but I learned so many new stitches. I loved doing it. It encouraged me to try another one, but with a different company and teacher. The pattern and teacher are stressful. I won't use them again. I will be back to do another afghan with you. Thank you for doing what you do so well.

You are a pisser! Thanks for all the years and all your hard work and dedication.

I am beginner getting towards easy. I used to crochet in my youth & now x?x decades later am giving it a whirl again. My speed is slowly increasing which is fine with me. If only UA-cam had been invented back then, I believe I would not have stopped. My grandma taught me & when she passed, so did my learning. You explain the patterns in such a detailed manner, I have learned quite a bit. Thank you!

Hope all is well with you. My mother taught me how to crochet starting back when I was in middle school, so, about 33 years ago, ugh. Lol. That little reality shock aside, you are my host. I learn very easily from you. The flow in your instruction is easy to follow and comprehend. I would say I can do intermediate though tend to veer toward easy. I stare in awe at my Mom whom I consider advanced. She would say otherwise though. We both have watched you to help us understand a pattern or stitch. For some reason we were both having trouble with the C2C pattern when it was really hot. I still don't know where the hang up was. We watched you and it just clicked. So, please keep the content coming and thank you for the inspiration and excitement you exude.

I have enjoyed learning from you. My mom is knitter, crocheter, and sewing person. while my grandmother was only a crocheter and sewing person. I learned to crochet by watching my mom and grandmother same with sewing. My grandmother never taught me per say but she taught me through watching her and letting me practice on my own. I have tried for years to learn to knit but I still can't knit. I will keep trying different teachers maybe someday. I am dyslexic so maybe to needles are to much for me and I okay with that. I taught myself many crafts by watching as I am a visual learner first. Thank you for all your shorts and teaching videos.
