Decoral was my first job out of high school. The building was an award winning design and so classy. Sad to see it empty and wrecked. I remember climbing those stairs up to the office area. The stairs were a marvel because they were cantilevered and rare to see in an office building then. My salary as a keypunch operator was $55/week in 1961. Nice camera work, thank you!
Thanks for that video! I grew up near the watertower in the 60's and 70's and downtown Mundelein was a busy family village. Horrible what's happened to it over the years since the 80's. I've been away for almost 30 years now, but it was a bittersweet moment to see the inside of Decoral again. They made picture frames. Anything else you can dig up in Mundelein or surrounding areas would be appreciated. Have you been inside the Seminary yet?
Was that the place on East Courtland that had fireworks on the 4th? And train rolled off the tracks in late 70s? If so, my heart is broke. We used to get crayfish from their creek for our Oscar's. They never chased us out of there or trespassed us. It was such a sweet little town. We moved in the blizzard of '79. I went to Mundelein Elementary a short walk from my house across from the factory. We also had to cross that property to get to the Dime Store for candy at the shopping Center. My Mom worked at the Osco when they first got one! Great childhood memories. :)
There’s a much bigger abandon building in Lincolnshire Illinois that is planned to be demolished soon, it’s still standing if you want to check it out before they do, it’s not too far from mundeline, literally a 10 or 15 minute drive.
That's sad that could happen to that building. It used to be nice. I did piece work setting up guitars around 2000 in the Washburn division. Buncha knuckleheads ran that place.
That was the decorel/condecor factory. Made picture frames and framed artwork/decor. My mom worked there in the 70's and it was my first job out of high school.
That was really scary seeing you guys climb that roof, I went on there and like shit was collapsing. Also wear some respirators. Still super cool explore!
The story was about a group of teens that went their to steel goods that scientist were trying to discover and they went to Mindelien highschool and they hid in their lockers when the cops where asking questions if they knew anything, the group of friends other people of what happened and then later got caught and arrested and ik this because my sister was dating someone and there cousin was part of this crime and then later my sister broke up with him
Used to be a picture frame factory in the 80's. In the 90's it was a Washburn guitar factory. George Clinton and the P-funk All-Stars played in the field next to it around '91 or '92
The Flip help yea amigo thanks for watching my graffiti videos and commenting..I will have one coming up soon of me walking next to the freeways to get some good vids of graffiti
I grew up in Mundelein and I gotta check this place out.... Where is it at? I have a really good idea where it's at given the visuals of the water tower... I know the town like the back of my hand, so I have a general idea...
Here are the coordinates 42°15'49"N 87°59'56"W · 721 ft It’s located near the roller rink if you know where that is and if not it’s pretty easy to find on its own.
@@XGaming1 Yup that's exactly what I thought - I know where it's at..... Of course I know where the roller rink is - I used to skate there every weekend as a kid for basically a decade in the late 80's and early 90's.... You go down Hawly make a left and down that road -- it's by the grade school - you go under that "pathway bridge" that goes over the street.. I know that building - it should be right by the walking path... I had a few friends that lived in that area of town so we used to skate over there occasionally. Like I said I grew up in Mundelein so the water tower really gave it away - when I saw it I was like "I know exactly where that is at" and the water tower really pointed out where the building was at.... If you walk out of the front of the roller rink, look left that is where the building is at.... If it matters, I think that building was supposed to be a library/village hall/community center all wrapped up in one..... At least that's my recollection... It was a multipurpose building.... I'll check it out and take some video and maybe post it..... Thanks for the GPS tho.....
@@XGaming1 I appreciate your concern, however I have been though some of the craziest buildings you can imagine and I grew up in Mundelein so I feel very comfortable, and if someone is in the building I probably know them, or they know of me.... That area is pretty safe so..... I mean I urban explored Cabrini Green, Robert Taylor homes and some of the most insane places in Chicago... That type of urban exploring is indeed dangerous... In the Greens there were squatters everywhere living there and doing drugs while the bulldozers were knocking down buildings..... There was a flipping dead body in the elevator shaft - and you could smell it and they used the shaft as a toilet..... It was crazy.... We pretended to be "journalists" I suppose me and my friends are we document and write.... If you enjoy exploring abandon buildings and really want to see crazy stuff go to Detroit or Gary Indiana - there are parts of those cities that are almost ghost towns - it's something similar to something you would see in a movie... As far as this joint in Mundelein..... I'll do some artwork in it.... If you go back and see an actual mural - real art - that would be mine..... But hey man, thanks for pointing me in the right direction and confirming my intuition on where this building was at..... Appreciate it.
Nikola Tesla no problem man, I’ve only explored a hand full of abandon places and iv been doing graffiti for a while, I wanted to do a piece here but ended up deciding not too. But yeah good luck, I’ll most likely end up coming back here down the road so I’ll keep an eye out for your work.
Skate or die that is cool that u skated 7 miles I used to skate but it got dangerous with stupid rocks stopping my tires and me falling so now I walk or ride a bike to my graffiti videos
The Flip same here in San Bernardino California,,It’s crazy with rocks everywhere it’s like someone at night time rides around with a broom making sure rocks are everywhere
The old Washburn factory/eagle trails. Crazy to think Dimebag Darell was 2 blocks from my house at some point.
Guitarist from Pantera.
That’s awesome! my uncle worked at that guitar factory for a while.

Reveland Pitch October 2 2017
You could film a movie in there
I know right, it looked like a scene from the walking dead.
It was demoed today.
That was really scary seeing you guys climb that roof, I went on there and like shit was collapsing. Also wear some respirators. Still super cool explore!
Parts of the roof was sinking in but the majority of it was solid, and all of the windows were smashed open so it didn’t smell bad at all.
The Flip it’s not the smell that kills, it’s what you don’t smell unfortunately.

Do you think he’s got any acid??????????
@@XGaming1 ahhhh
that place used to be a quitar/music place, very sad
Really? Did they manufacture guitars?
@@XGaming1 yes im pretty sure they did, the old washburn factory.

I've been there before with my buddy it's pretty cool
Yeah I’ve been to a lot of abandon buildings and this one was by far the coolest, I just wish I exploded more inside before we left.
I went on the roof
Didn't they make Washburn Guitars there.
That’s what I keep hearing.
Yeah my uncle worked there. Used to see him since my school was across the street.

No idea, it’s some lofi song but sorry I forgot the name
