  • First impressions and unboxing of the Vintage Minolta CLE. Which was produced in the 80s.
Bought this full set and new-old-stock Minolta cle a couple months ago. Compared minolta 40mm f2 with some Leica or non-leica m mount lenses.
Will upload detailed reviews of lenses later.

Great video Alan, with a lot of useful info. IF you can do another one showing the look through the viewfinder with 40mm vs 28mm lenses (so we can compare how the frame lines look etc) that would be amazing!

@@alanduan6270 so with a 28mm lens since those framelines are the widest, is the feeling pretty much as one is using an SLR then? Since those are the widest, pretty much what you see through the viewfinder is what you get?

Hi Cortexturizer, and yes, that’s almost like that. And for CLE is very suitable for using 28mm lens with Aperture priority mode. Then you are ready for street photography, don’t need to worry about the exposure. And basically set aperture at F8, it will cover 2 meters to infinity.

I just bought this camera. Didn't get as good of a deal as you but I'm excited to use mine just the same. Mine came with a Voightlander Nokton 40mm f1.4. I want the Minolta Rokkor 28mm and will pick that up soon. I plan to use the Nokton on my Fuji x cameras as well. I'm completing my film street kit. I have the Canon P rangefinder and I love that camera. Looking forward to more of your videos.

Hello Dadisi, congratulations on your new camera/lens. And I have a Voigtlander 35 1.4, should an identical lens as Voigtlander 40 1.4, a very nice lens with vintage looking.
Haven’t got chance to try canon P yet, but keep hearing beautiful stories about that camera.
      Thanks a lot for watching

    Hi mate
What can you say to the durability of this camera?. Is it vulnerable because of the electric shutter?
Would you rather recommend to save up for a Leica M5?
    Best regards

Hi there, thank you for the comment.
The body material of this camera is similar to Leica CL, which feels like thin aluminum, so it’s quite easy to get a dent, that’s why I am always paying attention to it. CLE with automatic shutter can be consider as a affordable M7 , and it’s a perfect camera to use 28mm for street camera.
Talking about m5, it’s actually my favorite, the design of built light meter is unique and smart. You just need to accept its look(which I think it’s actually cooool), and have slightly bigger hands to hold it due to the size.
I am picking the m5 between these two. Btw, M5 and M2 are my favorites.
      Thanks
      Alan

      Hi Alan
Thanks a lot for answering it so quick and detailed!!. It helped me a lot!.
I really like the look of the M5, so I probably pick a M5 even if it is more expensive with a good lens. I think the M5 would accompany me for a longer time as the CLE.
      Best regards!

I found someone locally, and it was a bit expensive to fix the lens. Almost 3 times of a regular service. And he is a senior and retired, don’t know if he still works during pandemic. Did you try YYE, you can mail in wherever you are. I tried his service before.

Pretty jealous. The CLE plus two lenses and accessories in good condition cost at least $1000 to $1500 on Ebay. You can sell it online and make a profit if you wanted to.

@@alanduan6270 oh we are not that far away! I'll check it out! I have seen some groups but not a specific for this. I am not a collector I just came across this camera and get in love with it the quality and the system. The Outdoors this camera is basically an leica m7 with different frame lines. 28 40 90. If you like 28mm lenses, this would be a perfect street camera, as you can use aperture priority as well.
Due to its alloy body, it is lighter to carry, but easier to get a dent. So need to pay a little attention
