Man, that squareback is gorgeous!
That was one heck of a swap out on the rockers! 😮 They looked ROBUST!!
Tommy you are a beast, glad you got it home in one piece.
The power of ingenuity and Bailing wire!!!
The stiffer springs of those CB heads (I assume Panchito), will put more side load on those stock clips and spring washers, that's for sure. Not surprised they failed on you. Nice job doing a road side fix to get home.
Silly hard lesson - that I already knew better but had been lazy about it for way to long. The bus that had those cute kids in it was running your new version Fan and backing plate. I DIG IT!!
@@VWLifeVW I figured you did know better, and I liked the roadside fix. Pretty innovative to get yourself home. Nice to hear the bus was running my new Evolution Two cooling fan. That's cool! I love seeing it out there. It's the product of a dream, and I mean that literally. I was thinking about how I might be able to develop something that worked from both sides, but for the life of me, I couldn't visualize it and design it. After months, I had a dream, and the design just became so clear. The next day, I had a CAD model of it and starting printing the first prototype. It changed a bit from that original dream, because of the issues with all the various throttle linkages that are out there in the wild, but it's basically the same as what I dreamed.
@@andrigtmillerlike Tommy, I like it... going to try it out soon on an engine. The good lord knows we need this additional airflow here in central Texas, Because it is HOT, HOT, HOT out here.
Great times, as always. That was a super bonus section, proof that these engines want to live!
Adore those huge station wagons. The Scirocco needs Euro bumpers. But all were bootyful. ❤
I've had pretty much every air-cooled VW (currently a 1963 23 Window) but one I would love to have back was my 1967 Fastback. Man I love those!
I know a 68 Fastback that is for sale!!!
Great Job Tommy and Chris making it home.
Another Great video Gary. Very cool to see that Top Notch departure clip of my 70 Bug.
You were getting it!
I started building a tool kit before our first campout after watching what Gary carries. I also have some basic parts just in case. Nice improvise on getting your beetle home Tommy
Peace
69 was the last year of bullets and 70 is when they started the big front and rear lights thru 74
Dig that '63! Sorry to have missed this - Out of town....
I always carry a small tool box wherever i go but my wife only lets me carry pliers and a screwdriver in her car. Good to hear you weren’t stranded for a long time and your buddies bailed you out. Luck was involved since you found wire on the roadside!
Yea I asked Chris if he had any wire.. He said "you mean like this" it was literally right on the ground under the car . If we would of stopped anywhere else it could of taken a lot longer to get home. Smarts and LUCK was certainly on our side.. :)
What Tommie B Smith NEEDS is a VW On The Road Again Kit....available at All Metric Garage, eBay AND the Samba!

> 7:45. My cabrio is a 2000. The facelifted (a3) mk3.5 golf cabrio was made from 2000-2002. The mk3/a3 golf cabrio (square headlights) was made from 94-99. Karl is remembering the year of my GTI VR6 which is a 98. Close but no cigar, boys!!!
You tell me this every time you drive the Cabrio, and I still can't remember. Mostly I like you telling me the story!
Good stuff. Good to see some new faces and their rides. Even the Olds.

I have a question, my 74 Bug was totaled (beat to hell) in the last apocalypse hail storm. I let the insurance take it because I'm unable physically to start over. I have quite a few 74 parts and several overall parts I no longer have a need for, including Motorola radios, new carb, etc. Do you know of anyone who might give me a fair price for these. I'm not wanting top dollar but reasonable exchange. I would be willing to bring the parts to their location.
