Hi Jay and Ashley, in the early 90's I lived in OP and I volunteered for the National Park on Assateaque my job was to warn the people away from the horse's and when the tourist would not get back I would chase the horse's away and them, they would get upset with me. I had a park uniform and hat and the horse's knew to stay away from me, I rode a bike and had a radio it case of an issue, it was kind of funny when the tourist would not listen to me....Thanks for your video's.
Thanks for taking the time guys I've always Wanted to explore The island myself Because I know there's more to it than just the beach. And horses And it's really cool that you got to speak with the family about the beach house and how it used to be
LOL I'm leaving a second comment Because the wife heard your voice at the end. And I had to rewind it We've got photos of the Pony's ,the dear and the sika The sika Always amazed me because you don't get the see them every day, Again thanks for taking the time guys
This was awesome - a walking history tour - you guys hit your steps in for sure. Hope u and the family get to feeling better soon. Can’t wait to see what you find next !!
They might....but trying to get anything out of the Park Service is...well...a giant pain. I've gone to them before for things and they aren't much help at all. I tried to go there to see where the old road went (for the Clements video I was doing) and the park service employee didn't even know a road existed nor even the name of the Clements house. It's baffling how little information they know about the history of the island.
There are hardly any videos out there. A local news station did a video on it called Ocean Beach, if you can find it, it's very informative. If you can't find it, send me an email yakattack0311@gmail.com
My wife and I have been going to Assateague for over 25 years, and we just found this path 3 years ago. Baltimore Boulevard the main drive for the development project. Mother Nature had other plans.
From what I understand and read about, they removed the road but never completely removed it because of the budget. So that's the reason it's left like it is today.
That thing took an absolute beating for being 10 years old! Thanks for commenting, we were wondering how old it was since we knew it wasn't an antique.
Great video, would’ve been interesting to imagine how the island would’ve developed had they built there after the storm in 1963. Nixon apparently had a lot and was scheduled to build a home there. Maryland would’ve had their own island with “high net worth” individuals building single family homes instead of condos. I guess we got that today in Delaware. All of the people with big money buy up in Lewes and Rehoboth and have kind of ruined the area. For better or worse Biden causes a lot of traffic whenever he flies in…
I cannot understand why they haven't removed the remainder of Baltimore Blvd. Get rid of it and let nature be. All that garbage going into the sand will have major impacts in the years coming. I guess 60 years wasn't enough time to take it out. Sad to see. Even more sad to see the dead horses. And I'm surprised you didn't come in contact with any live horses. What a treasure where you live is. I'm so envious. Hope you all feel better soon!!
The old road is history, so they kept it as is. The rest of the road is pretty much gone and washed away. We saw a few horses towards the end of the video, but I always try to keep my distance. I don't want to know what it feels like to be kicked HAHA
As a former MD resident, your channel makes me miss, the incredible Eastern Shore, OC, and great crab cakes. Enjoying your channel.Goodspeed!
Thank you!!! 😊 I really appreciate it!

Hahaha I can only imagine some of the stories you have on the tourists! We've definitely seen some funny stuff too! 🤣
Nice Video Jay. Assateague Island has a lot of hidden gems.
Thanks for taking the time guys

There's always something to explore on the island! Thanks for watching!
I traveled that road every weekend back in the 50s,60s. The road went down the middle of the island and there were no forks.
From what we gathered, it had turns in the road and wasn't just a straight road?
@@ReelJayB i don't remember any turns or forks. No side roads were ever laid.
Great tour. Thank you for you and Ashley taking the viewers along for the walk.

The sika Always amazed me because you don't get the see them every day, Again thanks for taking the time guys
I love the sika too and for the same reason! We usually don't see them out, it's always great if you can spot one.
I wonder if that pipe in the ground was once a property marker for surveying??? Great video!
That's what I was wondering too. Maybe a house was once there??
This was awesome - a walking history tour - you guys hit your steps in for sure. Hope u and the family get to feeling better soon. Can’t wait to see what you find next !!
I had my step counter on....16,500 steps was the grand total. Our legs were tired after that!
Thanks you two you're videos always cheer me up.Cant wait to come down this year.🐟🦀

10:00 mark looked like a railroad tie
Yeah! But how did it get there?! Only reason I think it's something else is because the spikes to it were very long.
Great video.
Love the adventure!
Thank you!!
That’s my stomping ground. I hike that area ALL the time & know all the horses and lodges
Cool adventure!
The deceased horse at 15:10 was an older mare named April she was born in 1996.
How do you find out the info on horses that pass away?
@@ReelJayB Assateague Island Alliance posts the known deceased horses.
I'm thinking the park service may have some maps of the area that would show those old roads.

Been looking for info on development of Assateague. This is first info I’ve seen

HI guys, The sign you found had retroreflective sheeting as the background. Looked like type 4 grade. I would estimate its about 10 years old.

Seen the other day the Angler’s had gutted a lot of the building and are possible redoing the outside. Any word on their planned changes?
Yeah, I saw that too! Looks like a big addition! I'm headed down there sometime this week to check it out.
Hi ReelJayB I have a question for you is there a way to messae you
At 5:13 u lose sound …..comes back at 5:30
That's odd...thanks for letting me know!

@@ReelJayB yes it is odd the one that was there for a while looked little.
