When I saw "Data East" I had to wonder if Side Pocket was going to be included. Now, Side Pocket had a history before the version you played. We had the 1987 version on NES back in the late 80s and I like that version slightly better than this one. (and then there's the good old Pocket Gal variant... look it up sometime)
@rumblebars ah, cool to know, I bypassed the NES, I had a sinclair Spectrum then jumped straight to a SNES and Amiga. My friend had a NES but I don't think he had it. I think all we ever played on that was Mario 3. Would be cool if we got thar version too then. I'm always down for multiple versions of a game to see and feel the differences.
I already have many of these in some form, but it’s a very good lineup! Kind of funny that we never got the first Joe & Mac in any form! It would be cool if we got Data East’s Neo Geo games this year, with sequels to Magical Drop and Fighters history…
@bjornh1527 I still have my amaiga cd32 with that very game 😉 and all the team 17 collection of course. And Rise of the Robots, because everyone has to have a copy of that 🤣 and Microcosm that I was obsessed with back in the day, which makes me laugh now, but it was like so future at the time, wasn't it 🔥🤣 And ive got an adaptor so I can use a psone controller on it.
@@aboyandhisdogRE Awesome! I bought my CD32 a decade ago, very scared that the capacators will give up or something like that... I´ve got some classics like Chaos Engine, Pinball Fantasies+Illusions, Syndicate and the Alien Breed games on it. Also Ultimate Body Blows for a laugh 😄

Great collection - go back to it often. Never got used to the controls of the NES version of Karate Champ - would love to see a release of a cart. with the arcade version to be played with a two analogue sticks controller.
(when playing any version of Burgertime, I do better when I use the ol' squeegee joystick that originally shipped with the C64 Mini. I use the same joystick to play the 2600 versions of Pac Man and Dig Dug for close to original performance. Go figure!) 😄
I thought through some kind of technical wizardry you'd have elevated Burger Time up to the heady heights it deserves ;-) My rankings are 1 - Burger Time 2-10 All the others :-) Keep up the awesome work Steve, especially keep playing Burger Time on your shiny new Alpha :-)
@jayme69 i love your continued efforts to sway me in this. I have been getting better at the game, and every time, I think maybe it's not that bad... i get stuck on a fekkin ladder and ruin a perfect run up to that point, and I want to throw the Alpha out the window 🤣
@Da4Ying3 I found a fighting game i can actually play, so for that I can't be off with it. Had a lot of fun. (Though i swear I was quite good at killer instinct and Battle arena toshinden back in the day)
The arcade version of midnight resistance: that is IN DIRE NEED of a downloadable software update to improve the controls. Should I even write and send in an error report to them? That's an abomination on the arcade cart.
@Da4Ying3 🤣 it was an eye opener. Didn't the arcade have a special swively stick for this, or did I imagine that? The console version is so much easier with the lock button. But i still like this version once I got my head around their control decision.
My ranking: 1 Burning Rubber 2 Side Pocket 3 Joe and Mac 2 4 Midnight Resistance 5 BurgerTime 6 Fighters History 7 Magical Drop 2 8 Two Crude Dudes 9 Karate Champ 10 Bad Dudes I just don't enjoy Magical Drop. I like everything about it except how it feels to play. This BurgerTime is bad but a bad BurgerTime is still better than most of this slightly underwhelming compilation by my lights. I adore Joe & Mac 2, Side Pocket, and Burning Rubber, though. Midnight Resistance is very good and much better than the arcade version.
My biggest complaint about this compilation is how much isn't in it. Joe & Mac, Congo's Caper, High Seas Havoc, Dashin' Desperadoes, Bloody Wolf, and the incredible Game Boy sequels Lock n Chase and BurgerTime Deluxe. No, wait! It's a BurgerTime that even a Boy and His Dog can love! Or at least like. Slightly.
@KeenRetroGames I'm always anticipating your list. Haha we both had poor Bad Dudes in last. Games are sort of in the same area on the most part. I think i get what your saying with Magical Drop. Im quite addicted to it now though, i can't lie.
@@KeenRetroGames i did chuckle at your defence of deluxe burger time. I'd give it a shot. I didn't mind the other version as much as the one we had on this cart. Those bloomin ladders make my blood boil!! 🤣

I’ve never played Son of Chuck, but I’ve heard it’s better than Chuck Rock! I’d like to have it on Amiga CD32 :)

@talesfromthejundlandwastes5498 I have definitely improved on the Alpha with the stick but still get stuck at the worst moment on the ladders haha.

I would have ranked Fighter's history as the last and the least: there is nothing I'd ever want to play less -alone or with a friend.

Why? It's reverse engineered from SF2 but otherwise it's fine!

How would you improve the controls? The arcade game had a special twisting handle joystick for it.

The Genesis version of Two Crude Dudes is far far superior to the arcade as well.
