I did this before. I microwaved the egg thinking it would boil the egg, and it did kinda. When I opened the microwave, the shell was cracked, so I thought there was no internal pressure. Boy, was I wrong. When I went to cut the egg on a plate, the egg disappeared and I had a major egg burn on my chest. Funny now, but painful lol
When I was a child I put a cold boiled egg in our microwave for maybe 20 seconds. When I took it out, it was making crackling noises, which I found interesting, so I put it up to my ear to listen better. Then the egg blew up like a grenade. It was loud and hot AF. @Kevin Dorfman 40 yo for me. I knew the risk but, since I am very clever, I cooked it in a glass of water. That worked well and after a few minutes I had a nice soft-boiled egg. Unfortunately, when I tried to break the shell, it exploded in my hand causing multiple burns on my hands, my face and on an eyelid. Nothing serious but that was quite painful.
Let me explain: The egg explodes due to a effect called "Superheating." which means the liquid isn't boiling but is above, or at, boiling temperature, the causes the egg to be able to build heat up without the water inside to vaporize and escape the egg, transferring heat to the surrounding area of the microwave, disallowing heat to build up. The microwave triggers superheating because of its strange way of transferring heat (Too lazy to explain), and once the knife touches the egg's middle all the heat gets transferred into the knife in such high speed the egg literally explodes. Think of it as charging a battery to max energy capacity and bursting it.
The chemistry of the egg was being altered by the change of the physics around it though 🤔 Wish he added a couple of lines more but heck. It was all about blowing it up 🤣

Female humans produce eggs & when the eggs don't get sperm then they get shed out of the body along with the inner lining in the uterus which we call periods/menstruation. Those eggs get fertilized when humans mate and sperm reaches the egg. Similarly, a hen's egg is not fertilized unless the hen has mated. Naturally, hens do not produce many eggs throughout the year so to meet the demand of the eggs in the market, the Poultry industry and the majority of the farms inject hormones in hens so that they can produce more and more eggs than their capacity and those businesses can earn more money. Also, the hens are kept in horrible conditions no matter how much "organic" or "free-range" labels are put to advertise. By producing unusually more amount of eggs, bodies of hens get damaged so they are sold to slaughterhouses before they even reach half of the age that they can live up to. The same practices happen in the dairy industry/farms, the only difference is that cows/buffalos produce milk only after delivering a baby and for only a particular time after the delivery so cattle, first of all, are artificially inseminated or forcibly mated by forcing a bull/ox over them which is not natural mating obviously and that makes it non-consensual i.e. rape. (In pet industries too females are tied up or are put into a small mechanical-like thing from where they cannot run away or resist what's happening and then the male is forced upon them to breed them just like in the dairy industry. Some practice artificial insemination too) Both female and male cattle are treated badly. Secondly, they are forcibly mated/artificially inseminated again just 10 months-1year after delivering the baby which damages their body and like the hens, they are sold to slaughterhouses before they attain even half the age that they can live up to. All this is beyond cruel so that's why I am a vegan :)

My dad did this once. Only he thought nothing was happening so he decided to pull it out. I guess the sudden change in temperature made the egg go over the edge because it exploded, chunks of slightly cooked egg landing in the living room, a straight line ahead from the microwave, about 4 meters away… where I was sitting. Landed all over the back of my head. At the time I was just surprised, but now looking back it’s hilarious.
You are extremely lucky that wasn’t because it was actually hot inside there, because that tends to burn people. It’s nice it’s able to be funny though, I mean exploding eggs make for such colourful little bursts.

I got curious and did this once. The explosion was insanely loud, prompting a panicking mother to run in and ask if I was alright. I explained the situation, and she grounded me for a week. I also had to clean the microwave, which was disgusting.
I put one in a a fryolator once when I was working at a restaurant. It exploded and got hot oil on my arms and shirt. Some went in my eye and I got so lucky that I had contact lenses in and it saved my eye from a burn.
British comedian Jack Dee used to have a section on his live TV show where he "resolved" arguments between two protagonists by drawing faces on eggs, then microwaving them until one exploded - then he would reach in and reveal the "winner". He carried on doing this despite safety warnings for several weeks until the inevitable happened - one egg exploded and as he reached in to reveal the other, it also belately went bang. Result - scalding hot egg on his hand and face. He bravely continued the show, but that section was axed from then on. Don't do it, kids.

Let me explain: The egg explodes due to a effect called "Superheating." which means the liquid isn't boiling but is above, or at, boiling temperature, the causes the egg to be able to build heat up without the water inside to vaporize and escape the egg, transferring heat to the surrounding area of the microwave, disallowing heat to build up. The microwave triggers superheating because of its strange way of transferring heat (Too lazy to explain), and once the knife touches the egg's middle all the heat gets transferred into the knife in such high speed the egg literally explodes. Think of it as charging a battery to max energy capacity and bursting it.

(In pet industries too females are tied up or are put into a small mechanical-like thing from where they cannot run away or resist what's happening and then the male is forced upon them to breed them just like in the dairy industry. Some practice artificial insemination too) Both female and male cattle are treated badly. Secondly, they are forcibly mated/artificially inseminated again just 10 months-1year after delivering the baby which damages their body and like the hens, they are sold to slaughterhouses before they attain even half the age that they can live up to. All this is beyond cruel so that's why I am a vegan :)

My dad did this once. Only he thought nothing was happening so he decided to pull it out.
I guess the sudden change in temperature made the egg go over the edge because it exploded, chunks of slightly cooked egg landing in the living room, a straight line ahead from the microwave, about 4 meters away… where I was sitting. Landed all over the back of my head. At the time I was just surprised, but now looking back it’s hilarious.

I got curious and did this once. The explosion was insanely loud, prompting a panicking mother to run in and ask if I was alright. I explained the situation, and she grounded me for a week. I also had to clean the microwave, which was disgusting.
I put one in a a fryolator once when I was working at a restaurant.
It exploded and got hot oil on my arms and shirt.
Some went in my eye and I got so lucky that I had contact lenses in and it saved my eye from a burn.

British comedian Jack Dee used to have a section on his live TV show where he "resolved" arguments between two protagonists by drawing faces on eggs, then microwaving them until one exploded - then he would reach in and reveal the "winner". He carried on doing this despite safety warnings for several weeks until the inevitable happened - one egg exploded and as he reached in to reveal the other, it also belately went bang. Result - scalding hot egg on his hand and face. He bravely continued the show, but that section was axed from then on. Don't do it, kids.
