If you're planning to add machine learning and facial recognition, you probably want a Raspberry Pi. Arduino style microcontrollers have their limits, most notably you really have to fit everything into a single program that gets burned into the chips flash memory, and then runs forever. RPi provides a full operating system, allowing multitasking, so you can have multiple things going on at once, including starting and stopping individual programs as and when you need.
