I’ve been obsessed with and dreamt of fly fishing for 40 years. Never lived anywhere near places that you could until now. How anyone can not see the magic in it is beyond me. It may be the one sport / hobby that has it all. Skill, challenge , complicated, depth , cool gear , rewarding , healthy for mind and body , relaxing , I can go on.
Quite right if you have a good technique then you can really hit good Distances with standard gear no problem what so ever, it just takes that little bit extra practise now and again certainly goes along way.

Thank you. Practice makes fly fishing so much more fun. To be able to put the fly where you want and the way you want gives satisfaction in it self. That you catch more fish is a bonus.
Got a subscribe out of me. Just getting started and looking at the tutorial videos whenever I can. Absolutely love the quality of the video and the stance that you dont have to spend alot to still get good results.
Good, straightforward, no nonsense stuff. Accuracy and distance casting are incredibly valuable assets in flyfishing. Amazing how many flyfishermen, supposedly in the know, don’t believe good distance is an advantage. I’ll take any advantage I can in our multi skilled sport.
I prefer jijjing, no fishing rods, no reels, just a long thick line wrapped around some wood with a massive hook on the end. I can sit in a boat all day doing that, and it's great for building upper arm strength when you're pulling in a couple pound fish and 200 feet of line.
Thanks, great video. Please let me know if that castle goes up for sale. I've always wanted a trout stream in my backyard. I assume Swedish castles can be bought by foreigners, on credit...

Good video with HONEST no bullshit explanation. Practice makes perfect, for me rods made 25 years ago are as capable as many new products, as for fly reels, they are simply ridiculous and mainly over priced for what they have to do.

@@sameochannel7637 Hi , yes it is silly that people will spend huge amounts on gear and avoid learning how to use. Training/ practice develop skills that enable people to get the potential from their equipment. We have a saying, "all the gear, but no idea!" But I guess we all start from somewhere and learn this or worst of all just give up! I started fly fishing 30 years ago, and still practice casting off the water before the season starts!
@@sameochannel7637 I don't really understand why people don't practise their fly casting... Most other sports, such as Golf etc, and people put hours and hours of practise in... But many fly fisherman treat people who cast well as though they are showing off or something.
@@conslin1147 Agree fully!...it is remarkable....tell them the Lie that a line or rod makes them cast a meter longer and they all throw money at you :) , But tell them the truth aboutpractising the fundamentals of the fly cast and they cant be bothered :D
yourre totally right. I hear that you don't need to do so many false cast and you don't need to cast far at all. but to me flyfishing is the art of casting its orchestrating a beautiful loops in your cast. and I'm happy to sling a line as far as achievable, not just to plop a fly 9 metres away
Distance is key. especially in saltwater if you see a tailing red pretty far in front of you and you know you can cast far you have higher chance of catching him and not spooking him sneaking up on him
Nice job, great explanation, I heard a story of a guy in New Brunswick, (Atlantic Salmon fishing) With a fiberglass rod Fenwick American made, beating the pants of everyone using 5th generation graphite and boron rods, Equipment Helps but practice / experience will win the contest. Ted William's baseball fame was one of the guys who couldn't beat the glass rod Native.
Great presentation clip, thank you for sharing👌. I think, still won’t solve the long line distance control for me. Please let me know if my next conclusion makes any sense. Lever is the foundation of how the entire system will work. But no many instructors mention this fact. Every single caster grip and movement on the tool is link to a lever to start the correct function by following 100% the right casting principles you also point on the clip. Few casters can manage longer line casting with a single hand fly rod (lever 3 tool), because he/she personal body structure characteristics, to mention a few, like the strength on muscles and tendons on the casting arm, this characteristics also varied, as well as vary reaching the point of fatigue over such a poor lever tool to do such a demanding exercise, if principles are off just few degrees on each stroke during the long distance exercise the burning sensations will show the reality factor that such a light casting tool can burn so much. Agree about the extra time training, practice, but also to the “natural “ individual ability to master the timing in eyes /hand coordination better than the next caster to reach the goal. Basically long casting distance with a lever 3 tool it’s not for everyone.The market is there, just to show us 50% of the picture on videos like this...YOU CAN DO IT just watch!!! Pick a target in the distance in front of you and follow a straight line to a target in the distance behind you. Its what many competitive distance casters do....
When Ola is casting stoke / arc is long does he still have a block stop on his back cast than drift or doses the style change to the 170 stop less cast ? What drills would you recommend for long back cast practice. Enjoyed the video and thanks for sharing.
Hi! Thats some really interesting questions! Since we made this video, me and Ola been working on a new way to teach the casts...we call i " the red line behind all casts" we try to skip all these ways to teach cast front/back cast to just say: their all the same. its not front back. Try a parallell stance on the side and you will have many MORE options :) You can in this way cast with longer stroke, better control (you can see the line all the time) So this will get you better timing and acceleration..its just left/right cast..or backhand forehand if you prefer...as long as you keep the rod path straight ALL the time you will get a effective cast...I will try to do a video in English this spring :) But basicly: SKIP the backcast, just practice it on the side...longer and longer carry...and when shooting aim 45° upwards and rotate your body as a javelin caster or a punch from a boxer :) look at this one I think you understand it even thou its in Swedish (this is me practicing line control and carry, as well as shooting control :) ua-cam.com/video/v9j5YOAyQQs/v-deo.html

I can cast my whole 65 ft spool of fly backing with a 51$ fly combo. A cortland FairPlay which can definitely tell is cheap. With homemade flies I tied with sewing thread and stripped phone charger copper wire. I thought it was just user error and getting better.

Yes fish is catched by fisherman not the equipment. Therefore you can use your great grandfathers equipment. Just blow away the dust on it first..
