Old school fighting game stages had such charm, personality and detail to them. The developers put such little touches in to them. The developers today focus so much on the mechanics that they forget that people loved the other aspects such as music and the backgrounds.
Always loved this stage since I was a kid! Even more now since it resembles the area in which I stayed at when I visited Japan, Lawson convenience store and shrine included.
Compared to Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo (the game that preceded this one), SFA was kinda lazy on Capcom's part. It had 13 characters and reused a lot of the same stages for different characters. I still loved the game though, great art work and presentation. But SFA2 was definitely a big upgrade (and SFA3 and even bigger upgrade) from SFA.
13 characters with all new sprites, including 3 new characters. Of the returning characters, 2 were the first time playable, and 2 came from a different genre, essentially making them new characters as well. So 7 new characters and 6 returning, new sprites, new backgrounds, new music, and new moves. That's like saying SF6 is a disappointment only having 18 characters at launch compared to SF5 ending with 45.
Don't ya just love how Guy's stage is just Ryu's but at sunset?
