Thanks Paul. I have had the Canon 24mm TSE and my Fuji GFX50s for over a year and love it. I'm mostly an architectural photographer business wise but the Tilt-shift if incredible. I use the Techart adapter and it works wonderful. I have had a few challenges getting the tilt to focus where I want it and this video helped.

Thank you. I bought this lens yesterday but I am waiting for the adapter to mount it on a Sony A1, anxious is an understatement. Blurring the grass on one side of the path leading to the lighthouse was quite cool and I will be burning up the shutter count on stuff like that. No other reasonable way to achieve those effects because I don't want to spend my life editing. Fun Stuff!

These are the front movements that are available on large format cameras. I agree that "tilting" is when the front of the lens pivots (tilts) down. However when you use sideways tilt (when the left (or right) of the lens pivots forward) then the proper term for that movement is called "swing". To get sharpness in both a flower in the foreground of an alpine meadow and the mountains in the background, I would use tilt. If I wanted to get a fence that starts on the left and extends to the right sharp, I would "swing the lens". At the end of the day it's all tilt or sideways tilt, but using the word "swing" adds some clarity.

Sounds awesome. I'm throwing another variable in by trying to adapt a T/S lens to a Fuji GFX camera and hoping to have enough sensor coverage for movements. Either that or just wait for Fuji's 30mm T/S to get released. Looks like an effect I've been missing my whole life though. Perspective correction, I always have to do in photoshop. (I shoot a lot of skylines and buildings) The shifted-stitched pano is very intriguing as well. Make a semi-wide into a super-wide lens. Hmm.
I was given a Laowa lens to test (there is a recent video here on the channel) which is a 20mm shift lens. It is an excellent lens and gives you more coverage than the 24mm. Also much less expensive.

Great question! I have always been worried about that because when you shift, you can really see the innards (from the lens mount side) but I have to say after using these lenses for 15+ years I have had no problems with dust or dirt.
Congrats for this nice and straight to the point outlook of TS lenses. I own the "new version" of TSE 17 & 24. I use also successfully the 24 with 1.4xiii. I'm seeking second hand "new" 50, but they are inexistant on the market where I live. Some 45 are time to time available. Do you have real experience with the 50/45? If so, how far is the IQ of the 45 compared to the "new" 24? I’m aware of the physical limitations of the previous line of TSE, but could be OK for me as I'll mainly use it for shift. Thank you in advance.
I’ve never used the 45 or 50’s. I always considered that more of a product photography focal length so never got into those. I would like to try them out one day though.
You have the terms backwards! I have used this lens for many years and the up and down movement is tilt and the side to side is shift, both with the camera in the standard position
The tilt action is where the front lens element of the lens tilts in any direction at an angle compared to the sensor/film plane. The shift action is where the front lens element stays parallel to the sensor but shifts in any direction.

I don’t have the 17mm to compare it to. I had the 17mm years ago but was never happy with it. It is an extremely nice lens and a great ultra wide, but I really didn’t like the perspective control effects. For me, it was too extreme and the images did not look natural.

Great content. In Lightroom there is not a Canon 24mm TS profile. I have been using the Canon L24mm profile but am not entirely happy with it. What profile do you use for this lens?
I'll usually just try to find something that is similar. If I'm not happy with it I'll actually go into the transform panel and try to make the adjustments myself to the distortion.
I am considering purchasing the TS-E 24mm but I keep hearing that the locking knobs tend to freeze up and you have to send them in for repair. Have you experienced these issues?
I agree with everything you have stated. I own the lens and it is everything I hoped for. Great review... It never leaves my kit. But my only issue is the cheap and mast lens hood Canon provided. They should be ashamed of themselves given the price of the lens. Canon can be terrible scam artists from time to time.
I know the 17mm ts-e is great for interiors, do you feel the 24mm ts-e is better suited for inside of a football stadium so you can get a nice wide panoramic or is the 17mm ok. I’m concerned by distortion.
I like using the 24mm much more than the 17. I find more distortion on the 17. If you are shooting panoramic you can get great results from the 24 I do it all the time.
Disney Image Makers Also thanks for the Disney images, my wife and I would go there 2 to 3 times a year with our kids. A little harder now since they’re older and we live in Silicon Valley. If we lived down south we’d go at least once or twice per month, we love the vibe.
I find that the image quality is better with the tilt/shift lens. But the max aperture is 3.5 compared to a 1.4 that you could get with the prime. Not a big enough difference in image quality to make up for the difference in aperture.
Yes, I used a 17mm tilt shift for a few years. I gotta say I just didn’t like it. It’s great as an ultra wide angle lens. But I found that the perspective correction achieved at such an extreme angle actually gave the photos a weird look. Im sure photographers can get the look they are going for with that lens, I was just never comfortable with it.

Thanks! You would want something around 50mm. Canon makes a 50mm tilt shift that is also macro. Pricey but they all are.

Yes it is very easy to focus manually, especially if you are using a mirrorless camera

Yes the brand names are a bit pricey. Try one out for a few days though, then you can even get a third party lens for less.
I just bought one to use on an MC-11 and Sony a7Rm3. I hope this works out. I just hate keystone-ing. :-/
