POSSIBLE UPDATE:
I may have misread Shank's leader ability. One interpretation is that it can be used on your own turn at any time in addition to when your opponent attacks. This makes it less bad than I thought in the video as this is a huge boost in his trading capabilities! But let's wait for an official Q&A to know for sure.

@@TheAtlusJack I doubt the leader effect works that way but Bandai should come out with an announcement to clear up the confusion and allow him to give leaders and characters -1000 for his turn otherwise the leader is unplayable. No amount of support could help a trash ability as -1000 when your opponent attacks. It's so unbelievably bad for arguably one of the top 2 most anticipated leaders coming out of this set alongside Blackbeard but Blackbeard got so much love and Shanks got nothing and Shanks is Oda's favorite character so it feels like a gigantic fuck you to everyone.
I thought of a film Luffy build for this new Luffy. Gild Tesoro is also a -2 Don effect that allows you to draw 2 cards if you can get him to survive for a turn. You could attach 2 to leader, swing 7, then swing with guild to refund that attached Don while drawing 2 cards. Could be a potential insane engine with the other film cards allowing for Beuna Fiesta to be the deck's searcher.
The reason for the keyword missing is so it is not forced to activate on an opponents attack. Similar to why blurple croc is worded rather awkwardly
Not true. Even if there was the keyword, it wouldn’t be forced to activate. You can still chose. They simply changed the wording and reduced keywords in general to make it easier to understand for new beginners. Have you not noticed the same with Lim and Buggy? The circled number is gone and it now just spells out “rest x don”.
I think the reason for Shanks’ ability being worded the way it is is because the keyword for “on your opponents attack” forces you to use the ability when that trigger happens and if you pass on it you don’t get another chance to trigger it. The way Shanks’ ability is worded gives you more flexibility for when you use it during your opponent’s turn.
Yea, the way its worded, you don't have to use it on the first attack your opponent does. You can save the activation for a later attack you might see coming or force you opponent to over commit to an attack
That's BS, Bonney has both Keywords and no requirement to activate it
@Risinng72 I did a little more digging and I believe the reason it's worded like that is because his ability is free. If they templated it to say once per turn, opponents turn, on opponents attack, without any cost, it would be first to go off as trigger condition is met ergo trigger effect( like sugar). Bonney you have to pay the cost to trigger its effect so you can hold it. I can't say 100% for sure as I have no idea what bandais intentions are.
Lim is definitely a leader the marketing team forced them to make😭
the + cost is also good against yellow and purple decks as the also rely on ko effects based on cost. also protacts from some of greens effects
There are counter cards that exist that do KO based on the power, Such as OP04 Fire Fist and OP01 Red Hawk
Cards you can use when your opponent attacks.
Red Op03 Lim(supposed to be Rim), -2000 to their leader or character for the turn on ko and she’s a blocker.
Op01 rafflasia event, 1 cost -2000 to their leader or character for the turn.
And then follow up with red hawk.
I'm sure they want Shanks to be used with Red Hawk and maybe print more cards like that as well.

You could use cards like Red hawk for shanks its a counter that kos a 4000 power character
22:20 the 4cost 5k guy counts himself. so if you swing with him with, you first rest him and then he gets the 1k power. so you just need one other rested character. still not that good but a lot more feasible than having two other bodies rested.
I'm definitely building every deck except for shanks and lim
6 mom from the new kata starter is perfect for robin you can always play on turn 3 and if they counter out off the first two swings you can grab 2 more cards or a life crazy pressure
Luffy only works when 2 don is removed by one effect. Not 2 cards that don -1 each
Teach is my favourite leader design, i'll try out luffy but until a funnier black control leader gets out i'll probably only play blackbeard even if it sucks
Luffy's 1 don also affects all the other strong KO/Bottom Decks and the occasional rest/freeze effect.
First. Why would you assume it's yes to the Luffy skill when it's a once per turn skill if you do two separate minus 1 skills that would have to be two activations of leader skill thus it doesnt work. It has to be -2 for one skill once per turn.
As long as you return 2 dons "during" your turn it will activate Luffy's ability. It will only activate if the threshhold was met which is DoN -2

I think the reason they keep printing counters to colors inside the same color is so that the color keeps feeling powerful.
You cant say black is weaker, becauae the answers is a black leader. Yellow wasn't nerfed because the counterplay is also yellow. It keeps the colors feeling strong and internally consistent.
Problem is, then the meta keeps being the same color forever until we do a whitebeard and ban half the cardpool. Black has been the meta for 3 sets now, and Yellow has been a contender from set 3. The other colors feel borderline unusable.
I feel people are sleeping on Shanks Leader. Saving 3-5 cards per game based on his ability and basically 0 early 5k into leader swings to force early counters seems like a good starting point. Even more counter cards saved if the new 10c Shanks character is on the field seems like pretty decent card advantage. Couple of mid to decent support cards and I can see him being very viable and doing damage against players who don´t have the fundamentals of the game down and get forced into akward attack or don attachements situations because of his effect.

@@cardkaizoku IF you can activate his ability in your turn too before you attack I can actually see his playability spike even more and him being a meta deck contender. Right now I am assuming you can just activate in your opponent´s turn and I am still excited haha
Red Zoro seems "decent" in OP08 and PRB-01 Sanji might do something. Red is definitely down there with Blue as the worst colors though which is a shame

Unless Shanks gets some New Key word that has to deal with power reduction or character abilities that synergies with it, He’s Dead On Arrival 😭😭.
If his characters say something like “if your opponents leaders or characters have reduced power, your leader gains X ability” then maybe he can cook
I was thinking of a 9 cost shanks with 7k power with all your minus power stacks until this character leaves play
Gonna main Buggy cause with croc and mihawk they have to be more then 6 at least. Best case 10 drops. What's the least amount cost that would be worth it to use his ability twice at 10 don?
im not a fan of robin being strawhat why not strawhat and baroque works now its going to rely fully on op09 cards searcher wise and such
I think the best curve for Robin going first would be 1 don pudding search, 3 don tropical torment or set into top life with hiyori, attack with banish and ramp to 6. 6 don play the new starter deck big mom attack and ramp to 9. Play 7 cost big mom and o-nami on the 6 cost big mom and attack with banish twice

Are you braindead? That would make his effect so bad why would you use his effect at that point. Might as well just play the card from hand
I feel like it would be cool if they printed a purple card that gave a character or leader DOUBLE ATTACK and then you combine that with Robin.

Maybe shanks will have some card that forces an oponents character to attack and then his leader ability could have more viability

Shanks is worded this way because it's an ability you CAN use on opponent turn and not ONLY on opponent turn (attack, most specificaly).
His effect can be used on your own turn.
The proxy games I have seen only allow him to use it when the Opponent attacks. If he can do it while attacking then he is good!
If somehow you can force your opponent to attack on your turn then this would be correct. Currently you cannot do that so you cannot use his effect on your own turn.
He does it 1 per turn and 1 per opp attacks as an extra @@AnimeALX
Attacking on your opponents turn isn't a thing so that doesn't really matter
@@iridium_nl introducing a goad ability would be pretty fun for Redhair pirates. Imagine if you're opponent sets up their next big turn and then you make them attack early, minus their power, and K.O. their character(s) on your own turn. that'd be pretty neat

@@reapersans2960 No you can't. Card literally says when your opponent attacks, you may meaning if they have multiple attacks, once per turn you can decide on which attack you want to activate it on. Nothing about when you attack.
