When Pokemon Go came out here, my sister and I hit a park in the middle of the night. It had a reputation for being quite unsafe being poorly lit and all that but when we got there there were so many people just wondering around grabbing pokemon. Ended up walking with this sweet old couple and their adult kids.
Man Grubby was right about the very opening days of Pokemon Go. It was a brief time of peace and celebration and man coming together for common purpose. Finding a high-rarity spawn and hearing somebody yelling to the crowds, seeing the news propagate through a network of people roaming around parks and campuses, and watching rivers of people flowing through these public spaces trying to get there before it despawned, not to mention that the sun going down did literally nothing to impact the activities. Hundreds of people walking around parks at like 2 AM playing. Seeing moments like walking around and having random cyclists passing between groups of people to report to them, "Hey, somebody on the south end of the park saw a Gyarados at the edge of the pond!" like they were some kind of couriers delivering orders to the frontlines. Seeing the silhouette of something desirable pop onto the radar and immediately watching packs of people split and break apart as they scattered in every direction trying to get a stronger signal on the radar's distance tracker. It was such a storm of activity and cooperation in those opening weeks. Truly something to have beheld.
Bro, nobody cared except for SOME people, don't make it seem life changing lol. This was a hype for like a week, then it died out quickly almost everywhere.
You are so right! Haha I used to drive Lyft at the time and people would ask me to drive 10mph through downtown repeatedly so they could catch Pokémon. 😂😂
Seeing the age group while playing was the best! We met as group of elderly people playing Pokémon Go. Another time someone kept driving around blasting the Pokémon OG theme song. One time a cop pulled up next to me at like 3 a.m. in a park and asked what I was doing alone. Showed him the area in the game. 4 poke stops getting lured was enticing to everyone when there within sitting distance.

My city, Riverside, CA, had tons of "histortic sites" that Niantic had been using as their study game, Ingress, when Pokemon Go came out. Players were shoulder to shoulder downtown, and they trashed the city, it was fucking horibble.

Regarding Nyantic being against doing anything but walking while playing the game: I know people who would drive around on a car, going from gym to gym for literal hours. I'd imagine the safety worries came from THOSE people. I doubt they had anything against bikers playing.
I imagine that it doesn't do too much. Because Farseer missiles are fast and have wacky movement paths, interceptors seem to have a really hard time shooting them down compared to straight-moving, slow missiles like Sentries or Stormcallers. I find that interceptors will shoot down like 1 in every like 8-10 missiles fired from a Farseer, no matter what the interception unit is. I've had somebody tech into 3 Sabertooths w/ Intercept AND 4 Mustangs with Intercept and they still couldn't stop my 4 Farseers from connecting with their missiles.

I got back into PoGo recently because of my nephew and become hooked all over again, partly due to the now mature PvP scene.
