When I hear guys wanting the straight 20s, I always say you're just paying for nostalgia, because 5.56 is a tapered casing, so you have to have the curvature for them to run reliability. If the magazine is straight, they don't stack in the magazine properly. You are correct. The gun industry just wants what it can't have, even if it's an inferior product.
I have six of those FDE straight 20s. They regularly fail to engage the bolt hold open when empty. The current Magpul 20 is a superior mag.
Can confirm, twenty round P-Mags can have issues. I have a few with the limiters for hunting still around.
