How To Get Respect Without Being A Bully - Jordan Peterson
    goo.gl/DLouoh
Jordan Peterson recently expertly handled a debate during an interview with BBC's Channel 4 news (The video was called: Jordan Peterson debate on the gender pay gap, campus protests and postmodernism). And JBP did it without being a bull or being aggressive. So how do we get respect without being a bully? Well, we often think that getting respect and being aggressive go hand in hand. Because unfortunately, it’s often the bully that gets the most respect in the schoolyard and even in the workplace. But Jordan Peterson is an exemplar of a different way to generate massive amount of respect. So in this video we’re going to explore 3 main things he does that force people to respect you WITHOUT being a bully.
Now, we focused a lot on respect in this video but that's actually just one out of four emotions that are going to create an amazing first impression on anyone cross-culturally. Now, if you're curious with the other three emotions that you want to create in that person are to make an amazing first impression, I made a video on that that breaks down what those four emotions are so that you can start using them today to consistently make killer first impressions.
0:30 Jordan Peterson calls it "pacing your reality"
4:50 Jordan Peterson tells stories effectively
6:54 Jordan Peterson uses archetypal stories

      @KaiserSoze679 6 місяців тому

Except he's really not. Charisma is literally defined as a compelling attractiveness or charm that inspires devotion in others. When more than half of the people who are aware of your existence hate your guts, and the only people who seem to see that charm or attractiveness in you are the ones that already agreed with your obvious prejudices, clearly there's nothing "compelling" there. You wanna see real charisma? Look to guys like The Rock, Terry Crews, Keanu Reeves, Chris Hemsworth - the kind of guys that next to nobody has a bad word to say about, no matter what walk of life they come from. That's charisma.
I guess I'd give you speech in that he has a good vocabularly and speaks with confidence and conviction.... but I mean, so do dictators. So do sociopaths. So do cult leaders (which frankly I'd argue he's verging on himself.) That's not only not always a good thing, but in the wrong person it's a very dangerous quality.

I met Jordan Peterson. It was brief, unexpected and unrehearsed. It was in the middle of the week in the middle of the day in a common area of TGH. I was in a very elevated state of anxiety at the time. My condition would be obvious to someone like him, but for me, from the moment we shook hands I felt the immediate change in my demeaner. An immediate calming down, foot off the gas, take a moment to breath type of change. The type of antidote a guy like Jordan Peterson is very good at administering. It felt real and it felt sincere. Like he took the weight from my shoulders and carried it away. Apparently it was noticeable 'cause when I went back upstairs to my son's room I had quite the glow on. I was asked "why so happy all of a sudden?". I met Jordan Peterson.

Every person, no matter their intelligence or education or life's circumstances was made as an individual.... with no one on earth being 100% identical. Every person has value.... maybe some contribute to mankind more than others, but there is a takeaway, large or miniscule from everyone. Hard to remember that sometimes for me as I let other things become more important than people sometimes. I need to be cognizant of that always. Have a good one, friends.

The majority is usually inbetween these. If someone is talkative one has to listen for a while. If the person when done talking suddenly wants to do something else, he or she is either a narcissist or has ADHD disorder. In that case you won't be able to talk rationally to them. If needing to teach them something you must use other approaches.

I saw something from Peterson in one of those final clips that I don’t think I’ll ever see his contemporaries, specifically people who specialize in “owning” their opponents (biggest example in my mind being Ben Shapiro), he’s just standing with his hand on his chin, calmly listening to the opinions of the person who’s talking to him. It conveys a deep respect for not just the person, but for their intelligence and right to have an opinion, and I think that’s what gains him respect during and after debates. Unlike people who indulge in shouting matches to feed their ego or widen their echo chamber, he appears to have a deep respect for the other person, which makes it easier for them to respect him in turn.
Tl;dr: An easy way to gain respect is by first showing someone else that respect, people are more likely to show you respect if they themselves feel respected.

Thanks for the breakdown! Learned some great things.
To address the first point: Peterson is an avid thinker and I'm not sure if he's consciously doing the "That's a good point" technique. I rather believe that to arrive at a conclusion he really believes in, he has this internal dialogue with himself, where he plays both sides of the argument. That also ties into the "you"s and hypotheticals that he uses, as these are his habits of discussing with himself. It's like a constant training for your brain to switch from perspective to perspective in an argument, which is now ingrained into him.
That's how he's able to say "That's a good point" with conviction as it is something he has seriously considered before judging.

      Han Jou,
Well, it's not difficult when you know what you know. But things I heard from Peterson so far (capitalism as a good efficient system, veganism as cult, and he being "a believer") are wrong, I can't believe people change their mind to *that* kind of thinking/ideas/interpretations... He is a good speaker, maybe born maybe learnt, but he is wrong (on the subjects I heard him talk).

I think it's also nice how Jordan extends empathy to the other persons position in the conversation without ignoring the danger of their position when it is something like the regulation of speech which should not be made light of. In other words he has the capacity to patiently hear their position and strongly criticize it simultaneously.

Came across this video and I must say, I am impressed at how thorough the information is. This is a niche area of study that embodies skills of perception, emotional health, interpersonal communication, and body language. Its a vital skill and essentially what a "spokesperson" or a representative/mascot does. I learned something today and appreciate the hard work it must take in providing this needed info to the public.

"Clean up your room" means also to start getting your live in order in little steps. It's the idea that if your life is a mess, surely there is always one little part that you can do to make your life a little better. This in the end spirals you upwards. You don't just go out fight the dragon, you first get your armour fixed and think about what exactly you will do, which ultimately raises your chances of killing the dragon.
