Who is "they?" If you mean doctors, then absolutely not. No doctor encourages obesity. Listen to your doctor, rather than raging on the Internet over random twitter accounts' pseudo-scientific opinions.

My dad bought me weights and exercise books that encouraged me to work out stay fit.
