- Out now idol-io.ffm.to/darkeyes - Taking her cue from a traditional gypsy melody half-remembered from her childhood, new signing, London-based singer SONIA ELISHEVA drops a memorable and punchy NEO SOUL meets ELECTRO SWING crossover.
The first single from her forthcoming album has echos of Lily Allen's LDN, crossed with an Eastern European folk heritage and Mark Ronson style production courtesy of THE SOULMATE PROJECT.
The video is a darkly comic tale inspired by cult movie THE LOVE WITCH.

LYRICS:
Are you out tonight sweet honey?
I could use a little company
I'm no good if I'm alone
My mind goes to danger zone
I have got a secret
(please don't tell)
There's a man I dream of
(please don't tell)
He's already taken
So my heart is breaking
I think of him every night
Hopefully his wife don't mind
I searched the Earth from left to right
But baby he's the only one that I like
I love his dark eyes
I love his dark eyes
Always on my mind
Always on my mind
I dream of his eyes all the time
I bet he never
Dreams of mine
I love his dark eyes
I love his dark eyes
Always on my mind
Always on my mind
I dream of his eyes all the time
I bet he never
Dreams of mine
Whisky coke
Bacardi gin
I drink just to forget him
It isn't fair
But when he's there
My hearts crashing down the stairs
Sinful thoughts
Don't say them loud
My mama
Would not be proud
I love his dark eyes
I love his dark eyes
Always on my mind
Always on my mind
I dream of his eyes all the time
I bet he never
Dreams of mine
I love his dark eyes
I love his dark eyes
Always on my mind
Always on my mind
I dream of his eyes all the time
I bet he never
Dreams of mine
Now I solved the puzzle
All you are is trouble
My mind is a muddle
All you are is trouble
I love his dark eyes
I love his dark eyes
Always on my mind
Always on my mind
I dream of his eyes all the time
I bet he never
Dreams of mine
I love his dark eyes
I love his dark eyes
Always on my mind
Always on my mind
I dream of his eyes all the time
I bet he never
Dreams of mine

Loving that description. Happy with that!
Oh hey I didnt know about this artist, epic
Oh not on spotify, not to worry I have a UA-cam music playlist just for this sort of thing
interesting blend of sounds, the description explains it well, it was gonna say pop/soul with a jazzy vibe and electric rhythm and swinging undertones, and thinking about it I can get the Eastern European folk from it
On Spotify and all good stores from FRIDAY... pre-save now
@@FreshlySqueezed Ooh is new stuff very cool, glad to be here early
SLAY, SLAY, SLAYYYYEEED Damn gurrrl🎉
Definately a double agent.
Beautiful song and great singer ! Nice choice of gloves too. What gloves do you use ?
@@Marcellin14000 😂 I think she’s wearing the classic Marigold rubber gloves in one scene, but yes, Sonia is known for her gloves! 🧤
The original Russian song is called Ochi Chernye. Very old song.
Crazy that the barman watched her casually spike the fellas drink and never intervenes.
LOL. Yup - Those London barmen... seen it all before!
ну погоди имба
I somehow knew the end.

No disrespect to the singer, but even if the melody has been folklorised through the centuries it does have a composer. It's a pity that such famous melody is only half-remembered by the current generation.
It's a modern interpretation. Fully remembering it would mean copying it
No disrespect to you, but if she had copied it, you would have complained it wasn't original. At least hers is something different and fitting to the modern era.
@@DM-yb9bz I would've never complained about it not being the same as the original since the melody was composed more than 150 years ago (I sang it once at an event and it was very low, I personally prefer the variant for tenor or soprano). And current intepretation uses only a couple of bars of the first line, everything else IS original. Nobody sings romances anymore, so it's great to see the sampling of old 'hits' in modern music. I do appreciate the edit about the melody's origin even if it is incorrect. The singer clearly knows the source the melody is derived from so it is easy to fact-check to refresh her memory.
Out of interest, who is the original composer? If it is indeed 150 years old it almost certainly falls into the public domain but in any case, these 'traditional' folk melodies tended to be part of a long lineage that was passed by ear from one musician to another. Often (in much the same way the Brothers Grimm became 'authors' by being the first to write down a record of existing oral folk tales), the first person to notate folk melodies, took authorial credit. Interestingly that practice continued right up to the 1940s and even 50s when sound recordists made early records of traditional American blues, gospel and folk songs, putting themselves on disc as a composer to register their record!
