Hello everyone! The followup to Dasein is still in progress. There are no change of plans whatsoever. It will be a 2020 release so there is nothing due this year. We just felt like releasing a video of an old song because we couldn't, nine years ago! Nick Miller, Forest and Nicholas Wells are in this video but not in the audio itself because the song was recorded in 2009 when the band was a trio. Phil Tougas recorded solos/rhythm guitar/bass and original member Gabriel Brault-Pilon (whom is not seen but heard) did rhythm guitar/bass. David did vocals. Just to clarify : Yes, Nick Miller, Nicholas Wells and Forest will be on our 3rd release. Yes, they are involved in the songwriting, and so is former guitarist and co-founder Gabriel Brault-Pilon! Yes, they are permanent members. No, we will not rerecord anything from the EP and the audio from the cameras was not clear enough! Many also requested a gula music video but we will not do that. There's already two playthrough videos out for this song, plus some of the guitar parts are partially improvised when played live - we have never played that song identically from one show to another. Paradoxal is the only song we play identical (or almost) to the recording because we like to change things up. OK, if you have any other questions, ask them in this thread. Cheers!
Definitely this song and Soif Brulante - a song that will appear on our 2020 album and current live setlists. Gula is extremely difficult but fun because of a few certain parts are often improvised - a huge gamble but it change things up from just repeating the same thing over and over again on every live performance.
Don't you ever feel it's difficult to nail all the songs in a row live? Love the music, definitely one of my new favorite bands, currently spending alot of time on my guitar practicing Le Serment De Tsion
@brandon I agree! Re-recording the bass for the song just for the video would've been cool but we were short on time + the original stems are lost somewhere...
I totally agree! Phil needs a custom six string guitar with all his specification he desires and then tuned to C Standard: C F Bb Eb G C Then play those neo classical technical shred guitar oh yeah Maybe oneday Phil Tougas be working with Carrilion or Skervensen or Ormsby or Jackson or Kiesel or Solar who knows the companies are endless one day Mr. Phil T will have is custom axe and that will be glorious!
For the past year or so, after discovering First Fragment, I've been growing more confident in saying: This is my favorite metal band. Truly breathtaking! Tech can sometimes feel awe-inspiring but soulless at the same time. First Fragment sounds brutal, virtuous, well-composed, soulful, melodic... Then there is Mr Lapointe. HOLY SHIT. The band is pretty perfect!
Thank you! Forest hasn't recorded on anything we've put out yet, save for a re-recorded version of Serment de Tsion and some playthroughs. Check out Dasein and listen to Vincent Savary's bass parts, you will not be disappointed. We are blessed to have played with the 2 best bass players around.
This is technical without being frilly. Constructively technical, if you will. Genuinely heavy without being artificially hardcore. 10/10 would recommend.
Never thought I'd get the chance to hear this song live, so I almost came out of my shoes the other night when I heard, "This is Paradoxical Subjugation!". Cheers!
That section from 2:23 to about 2:38 gives me chills every time. I can listen to that part on repeat. I seriously hope that the mix and production on their 3rd release sounds as good as their EP did. It made the songs sound more massive. I love Dasein, but i think the songwriting and production was more "in your face" on The Afterthought Ecstasy. I love these guys, can't wait for album 3. Phil, you are a God \m/
Thank you very much ! The Afterthought Ecstasy has a drum machine and extremely quiet bass. It sounds punchy and highly aggressive, yes, but production-wise, very lifeless compared to Dasein IMO. I'm sorry but we will never, ever sound like this again. We prefer real drum sound : D
Wow, I remember jamming this song on almost every party from 2011 until 2013, it is so fuckin' lit and motivated everyone to bang and drink from the beginning to the end of every party!! All hail First Fragment, see you this week in Munich!
Man, I remember when I first heard this song ages ago after I got the hard copy of the EP in 2012 sent in a package from Montreal. All the love for you guys. Still one of the best solos of all time and on my list of solos to eventually learn (somehow lol). \,,/
Video assassins! Shredding performance in front of a howling mass. Keep bringing the Metal so I can look forward to seeing all of you live. My body is ready....
I never really thought there would be a video for this song. But almost made me cry! Love this band so much! Thank you guys for creating some amazing music.
@@mrdeathamore idk I like sop too and yes I've heard all their stuff. First fragment are definitely up on top in their genre who else is close?? To the type of music their playing not alot. And remember this is just them getting started, imagine what they will sound like in a couple years!??!!?

Ima be real and say out of everyone in the band Phil of all people should have a goddamn endorsement. Seriously, just give that man all the guitars

Still coming back to it... support them with merch people, and go see them live. It's such a shame that such an awesome band isn't more well known.
By far the best song you guys have. And I like the majority of your songs pretty good.
Please get this EP onto Spotify.
I lov it🤘🤘
That Dissection shirt just adds to the grandness of this
