    Not my usual vlog, but I had to install a new chain on the chainsaw because I’ll be using it. There weren’t any good how-to videos that I could find, so I made one. No one is obligated to watch this thing 😄

    Despite using chainsaws for forty years, I've had a lot of trouble getting the tensioning such that the chain wouldn't become too loose or as happened on three occasions fly off the guide bar. I agree with the many other commentators who found this short video extremely helpful and well done. Your voice over manual images alternating with voice over video images of your doing the actual procedure is just about as good as it could get. The manual, as often happens, is full of the picky details in some respects, but offers only tiny illustrations and precious little in the way of useful explanation. I've copied the link to your video and saving for future reminders. You seem to have a gift for this kind of thing. You might check with Makita to see whether they would use your work on their official website. Really nice job thank you.

    How-to's on UA-cam are life savers for me so I'm glad to see you filled a void when you saw it. I have used a lot of chainsaws but never a cordless one. I would like to have one for small jobs(probably not that loud of a machine). Safe cutting!

    • @kathivy
      @kathivy  5 років тому

      Yeah, I didn’t want to hunt down and read the instruction manual, I just wanted to watch a video about how to do it, but couldn’t find anything. The battery powered thing isn’t as noisy as a gas chainsaw and I don’t use hearing protection when I’m using it for a short duration. Tyler even prefers it over his huskies for quick jobs, and it’s actually a decent little beast for regular work.

    Which oil i can use for chain aku?

    • @kathivy
      @kathivy  4 роки тому +1

      Niko Neko I’m using a bar & chain oil from Stihl. Some say that you should use an oil like this specifically made for chainsaws and not regular motor which doesn’t have the additive that makes it sticky, but I don’t have the expertise to answer that question. Here’s a link to an article that discusses the issue: www.thespruce.com/using-regular-motor-oil-chainsaw-bar-1342724

    Thanks, when you purchased the unit, did it just come with just 100ml? the package only came /w that much and wondered if I need to fill it up to the rim as the instructions say for first time use (full tank capacity is 200ml)

    • @kathivy
      @kathivy  4 роки тому

      harold hoang good question. My partner used the unit for the first time and doesn’t recall if the package also contained oil and what amount that would have been, or if he had to purchase the oil separately. I would assume that you would always want to fill oil to the level described in the instructions.

    Please tell me, many people in comments across internet told me one thing that is annoying with makita duc353. When you press power and u cut something, when you put it aside, after 5 seconds saw turns itself off, and you have to start it again constantly, if you are cutting something and moving cutted logs in same time. Can you start your chainsaw and put it aside to see, will it really turn itself off after 5 seconds. Why is this important for me ? - i am buying thiy chainsaw for my father. He is old and very very short tempered. If chainsaw will keep turning off after 5 seconds he will probably break it. I am very afraid he will break it cuz he has PTSD, he is war veteran. Thats why it matters to me so much. If its possible, please, can you do that test ?

    • @kathivy
      @kathivy  4 роки тому +1

      @Jure Macola the chainsaw does shut itself off if not used after just a few seconds, and then you have to press the button again so that it will run, and you have to be careful to press the button correctly or it won’t work. This has been frustrating to me and I’ve had to remind myself that it is a safety feature of the saw. This feature could be terribly frustrating for someone with limited patience. I have another video briefly demonstrating use of the chainsaw ua-cam.com/video/fpfCc_iclyw/v-deo.html almost five minutes into that video. I love the chainsaw, but it may not be for everyone.

    I would probably try to sharpen the chain if it gets dull, though I have never done that and don't know how good my sharpening would be! : ) I think it is possible to freehand it with a file, but there are jigs and other devices to improve results.

    • @kathivy
      @kathivy  Рік тому +1

      I never keep track, but it was probably about a year or two of use before the chain became dull, but I only use it for a short period of time during the summer. Yes, probably best to sharpen the chain, but I just replaced it because I was lazy and didn’t want to learn how to sharpen the old one.
