As a kid this blew me away in my local arcade. Due to never seeing it in shops or magazines, I didn't know it existed until many years later. My mind would of been blown to own this back then. Still one of my absolute favourite games.
Since Streets of Rage had a reboot recently, here’s hoping for a Final Fight reboot as well.
The SNES port just doesn't do the game justice. The graphics are dark as hell, the music sucks, max 3 enemies on screen. The spirit of the arcade version is mostly lost unfortunately.
The arcade version though, is definitely worth playing. It is the spiritual successor to Final Fight taking place in the future Metro City.
you can play the arcade version of final Fight & Captain Commando on the capcom beat'em up collection. has other good beat'em ups on there too.
Play the arcade port version on the Switch/PS4 Capcom beat 'em up collection. It's far superior to the watered down SNES one.
Used to love renting this one. Funny, Captain Commando waa supposed to be Capcom's mascot at one time. Though, they only gave him one game to shine. I think he deserves to be in a Final Fight revival with Guy, Cody, and Hagar. Do it, Capcom! Do it.
Also, he is one of my fav characters to play in Marvel vs. Capcom
is that a sneak peak into the basement? you should do a game room tour
Get the Bundle guys, you get to experience the actual arcade experience! :)
I cant remember where or why but I recognize that baby commando from somewhere...Must have seen this game in a collection or something.
Used to play as Captain Commando all the time in Marvel Vs Capcom for the dreamcast. It wasn't till very recently when capcom put out it's beat 'em up collection on the PS4 that me and some friends got together to start playing some of these and finally got a chance to play the arcade Captain Commando and it was non stop laughing at how corny the voice acting was and how bonkers this game is haha! But it was still a load of fun!
I would definitely recommend the arcade version on the beat em’ up bundle over the SNES port.
Great review vic. I dont know if you've played it but you should try the capcom beatem up bundle called Dugeons & Dragons chronicles of mystara. It includes 2 games and capcom released it on PS3 and Xbox 360 so thru backwards compatibility you can play it on xbox one.
I think it’s under rated. The Arcade game is on par with all Capcom brawlers, and they are all stellar examples of the genre, and I think the SNES port gets the main bits right. It’s a good game
There is no other choice than Baby Commando
I always got Captain Commando confused with Bionic Commando which is also from Capcom
This is a classic beat em up real good choice
The arcade version hugely outclasses this version. Glad I got the Capcom Beat 'em Up Bundle.
Never heard of this games. Looks interesting.
I’d love to see a review of Spider-Man for the 32X.. but won’t fault you for using an emulator and not paying for it!
I love this game
This has been sitting on the shelf since I bought it - but I definitely owe it a try! Thanks for the great review!
Don’t deserve it then…
Check out Sonic Blast Man 1 and 2 if you get the chance to. Great SNES Beat em ups.
Probably better to play the arcade version in the "Capcom Beat-Em-Up Bundle" (regularly on sale for $10) than to pay far more for a cart given that it's a very watered down experience.
Don't own the pricey SNES version, but do have the arcade version via the PS2 Capcom Classics Collection Volume 2. There's also a pricey as hell PS1 port, and it's a pretty nice port, even has support for 4 players, though a code must be done to unlock that 4 player option. That version also offers remixed music, and the original arcade music, I don't care much for the remixed music though, and play a burned copy with the original music instead (my PS2 is fliptop modded, and can play burned PS1 games with the help of a Gameshark). Of course I play the PS2 version far more (since it's a legit disc, far less strain on a laser lens than a burned disc) than the PS1 version.
Even the Japanese Super Famicom version has come up in price quite a bit, same with Knights of the Round, a far better effort on SNES than Captain Commando, but still below the awesome SNES port of King of Dragons. Thankfully that Capcom PS2 compilation also has all of these games on it as well.
It's been a min, but I believe I beat this with baby commando... cuz why not?!
One thing I will say is that I have never ever looked at this as a Super Hero game and it isn't nor intended to be.
How bad must have been the other "commando" ideas that they went with Mummy and Baby as the other two characters after Captain and Ninja lol.
Haha I like! They are creative and fun!!
Lonely astronaut 😂
Played this on the Switch Capcom belt collection. It's a pretty standard beat 'em up. Not the best game I've ever played, not the worst. A 7 is about right.
4 players arcade version ?
No Rundowns, Vic?
@@EVIL-ONE Okay, must've missed it. Been so mucked up with work right now.
