Investing in this device, practicing setting it up and also getting some experience at your local sports centre's climbing wall will equip you with the best possible chance to escape from height in a genuine emergency. Also, fix numerous anchor points in case flames or smoke block escape from one! There's no point having just one point of escape in case that route is impassable. A clever, life saving device.
Perhaps a version can be engineered to hook itself to a wall or ledge. You probably wouldn't mind making a big hole in your wall if you're escaping with your life out the window
These are generally only effective for shorter buildings with a fewer number of floors because of the short range of the device. For example, I stayed in a hotel that had one of these and its range was about 12 meters (40 feet)...limiting its effectiveness to maybe 5-7 stories. The WTO buildings had 110 stories and the plane impacted around the 90th-100th story. So the device would have needed to extend over 1,200 feet to help those people on 911.
It’s a great hack, speaking of the rope escape and until we have ladders that reaches high heights it’s the only other high rise escape with building without a built in fire escape.
We had something very similar to this one in our hotel room (5th floor) when working in South Korea, few years ago. We did not use it (thanks, Lord...) but I still was very curious and very concerned about this system.
Strangely enough I have had thoughts of investing in a strong long climbing rope and storing it in a cupboard, just in case the need arises to evacuate from the balcony or window. But I suppose it would have to be your freeholder to permit the installation of the imbedded wall anchor bolt and your trust in the freeholder that they done that critical installment correctly to hold body weight!. Also in a building that high you would need to have the nerve also, but if it means life your probably gonna naturally muster that up!.
Not a bad concept but that anchor is awful, who the hell did that and why? Also, its just too risky, a single failure in the system would kill you 100% of times; i'd rather just stay there hanging outside the building until the firefighters rescue me.

I suppose most balcony railings would do. Or in an emergency just fix it to any bulky piece of furniture bigger than the window
You’d better install multiple mounting points in case the one you installed has been blown away by an impact with the building.

if i worked in high rise building i would have something like this in my desk in case of a fire
Yea. Imagine how many more people would have escaped the top of wtc buildings if such tech was engineered into the building
If that only had been available for people in massive numbers on 9/11...

Works great until you get six floors down and get cooked from the blow torch coming out the window.

Where can u buy this though?!
Well if it's either that or burn to death but I'd be worried about that boat on the side of the building how well it was put in
Ghiena has no mercy
“Mommy!”
What if lower flat ( home ) is on fire and you wake up late to realize? So, rope is fireproof?

Anyone can rappel, and you can tie your rope to anything sturdy that won't move.
So, how does it reset for the next person???
You really only have to go beneath the fire then break out a window and climb in
Yeah, especially in a really high floor. But in a building of this height, it's easier to just go all the way down in one go.
It’s correct, that idea.
you dont have to if you are on the opposite side of the fire
And if the line starts to burn?!!!
I could have been without the voiceover... Just... subtitles... cmon...
agreed
What if more than 2 ppl
Buy more
Make more mounting points at different windows
Problem Solved
Put 2 ropes in the metal ring while 2 people rappel going down together.

Are you willing to die on that fort your standing on?
its not going to be very effective if the lower floors are on fire
Do you think that the general fire escape staircase would be your best shot then?
I want to purchase this.. Ur email or contact details pls
Nice.
