I doubt there was anything scarier than getting into a boxing ring and seeing Tyson with that glare, pacing around the ring like caged animal, and then seeing that up close just before the first round.

It's a bad face to make as the ref makes his final assessment as to whether or not he can continue. I think he was subconsciously trying to sell a stoppage and then saving face with the protest afterwards.
When I get p*ed off watching garbage stoppages in MMA... I always immediately think "well they're at least still nowhere near as atrocious as the stoppages in boxing, like Tyson v Williams for instance"... And then that only makes me irritated all over again because the stoppages in MMA are often horrifically bad and there's legit a sport with even worse ones
