I like this. I'm one of those people who has a lot of opinions but can't fluently read the original text. ;) But I also can appreciate a wide range of approaches to translation as long as there's some sort of apparent LOGIC to it. (I've been very frustrated by some translations that seem to be a little careless -- and then those that carry over some of those apparently-careless choices *because* they're familiar and comfortable to people.) But we can get so accustomed to hearing certain verses and phrases that their actual meaning sort of fades into "noise" and I like the idea of looking to jar us out of our ROTE ways of understanding things. I'm reminded a little of when our church did an Easter play one year, and one of the young kids in the congregation, strugging to recognize the difference between a performance and the reality, became very upset and cried out in hysterics, "No! Don't hurt Jesus!" I imagine his mother was embarrassed by the disruption, but it was the most poignant thing I've probably EVER seen in church. Because that whole account becomes so comfortably familiar to us that it becomes "just a story," and we aren't broken by it anymore. But someone -- like a young child -- seeing it from a fresh perspective puts the whole thing back INTO proper perspective.
Great interview. Familiarity breeds contempt, so it is good to slow down as we read the Bible. I’ve often thought empire is a better descriptor than kingdom. An empire rules over nations, while a kingdom seems more like ruling over a single nation. Also King of Kings is a title for an emperor. 🤔
I'd say its the teamwork of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit that make a reliable translation of what the WORD OF GOD says. So potentially, exactly what you just said! :P

The incarnate seed of David and Abraham , did not speak in Greek , so the text that you are quoting is a translation and not the original words, and so the Gospels of Matthew , Mark and John, were probably written in Hebrew or Aramaic, and this means for Me, that we need to marry the Old Testament Hebrew and Aramaic to the Greek to get the truth behind the Text, and what I mean is when the Lord Jesus says, it is written , or your have heard, or this was written or done that it might be fulfilled , and Peter and Paul and James quote the Old Testament hundreds of times
Huh? You don't kow that Jesus didn't speak Greek...because you weren't there. Also, no one is saying that the Gospels are transcriptions of what Jesus said; they are what was written by the eyewitnesses (Matthew and John) or was told to the writers by eyewitnesses or other witnesses close to the time of the events (Mark and Luke). And for goodness sake, you should never have a run-on sentence this long...
Another good example of the kind of ambiguity that translators often explain away is the bit about a man's behavior toward "his virgin" in 1 Corinthians 7. Is it his betrothed bride, or is it his daughter? Most translations make the decision for the reader.
The transliterated name argument is too much of a sacred cow stance for me and offers nothing. Scores of immigrants over centuries updated their names when they changed continents. They still carried their respective heritage with them while assimilating into a new land. Big whoop. I prefer James to not get confused with OT Jacob. Sometimes this gets out of control and we go back to Hebrew. Where does it end? If a Dong migrates here and chooses to be called Don instead to fit in there are reasonssss.
