The gall of this man who professionally throws a ball to other men to lecture college educated women to stay in their lane and not have career aspirations
💯 👏 👏 👏
Yeah I find it funny "staying in your lane" and then getting so political and socially judgemental as a sports man ...
Minor correction, kicks a ball for a living and makes millions doing that. Talk about a position of privilege…..infuriating speech to say the least…..
@@mikecrisafulli8970 he has a better education that virtually every idiot saying "stay in your lane" he has an engineering degree.
So what? Good for him, but what kind of a speech was that ? If he prefers his wife to stay home and be a good house wife, that’s their business but if he is telling other women that that should be their goal in life, then he deserves all of the scorn he is receiving.
This feels like a dry run for some kind of political campaign he'll probably run when his sports career is over.
Let’s hope not 😳
My heart breaks for infertile women who listened to his speech. After working hard to get a perfect GPA in undergrad and graduate school, I decided to skip my commencement this weekend. I do not feel the need to be shamed by a speaker who wants free publicity. So many of these speakers spoil graduations for students.
Oh absolutely, imagine wanting to be a parent so badly and struggling with infertility all while this dude tells you that your accomplishments are unimportant and you should really be focusing on starting a family instead.
And I’m so sorry you ended up skipping your commencement! I hope you did something else to celebrate yourself because you deserve it!!
Right? Like, I wonder what Harrison’s thoughts on IVF and surrogacy would be if he and Isabelle had trouble conceiving
Right as well as Christian woman who have not found the right man and are unmarried. The whole message is they are less-than when they may be following God's plan for them.
@@BHaney I still plan to celebrate. I just have no desire to hear a self-righteous speech.
@@m2hnj IVF was in his list, right next to abortion.
He, a man, sure has a lot to say about women's issues for a speech about staying in your lane. Also- "staying in your lane" seems like such a weird message for a commencement speech.
It's a phrase the originates in football, so I think that was the inspiration. It's definitely the weakest part of the speech and quite awkward.
The speech is even more enraging when you remember that he makes over $4M kicking a ball. His wife’s doesn’t need to help out food on the table, they can afford to raise a big family-heck, they can hire live-in help if they like!
HE DID NOT choose a job that was contrary to his natural talents and inclinations, in order to do something morally important. I doubt he chose to play for KC because they had a Latin mass. 🙄
I grew up Catholic (8 kids!), but it’s been a long time since I left. These Trad Caths are scary. BTW George H. W. Bush spoke at my graduation (he was VP) and, while his presence was political, his speech was not at all.
The man giving the speech: I want to speak to the women here.
B: How about we just don't
😂😂😂
My win for the week: I graduated college! I was a 2020 HS grad so to be able to have a big celebration was so fun.
Congratulations from another 2020 high school grad/2024 college grad! Well done on all of your achievements over the past few years
@@fantasticbeck3938 congrats to you as well! 🥳
Two things I keep hearing people say online:
1. that he’s just saying being a wife is a great thing and uplifting his wife’s work as a mother.
2. Consider the audience! They all agreed with him and applauded him so it’s fine!
My rebuttal to those is:
1. No. He didn’t just praise being a wife and mother, he told graduating women their career goals are diabolical lies from society. How rude and dismissive!
2. The nuns have released a statement disagreeing with him. And also who cares about audience? Take it in another instance. If I say a bunch of pro-nazi statements at a pro nazi rally does that suddenly make what I say ok just cause the audience agrees? No! Same here
Oh yes! If he only said something like "if you discover that you prefere to be a mom and a wife instead of pursuing a career, your feelings are valid and I hope you'll find a way to make something work so you'll be happy" and proceed to talk about his wife, it would have been a beautiful message, but in this case, it just made me really uncomfortable and kind of angry.
1. It would be rude and dismissive to perpetuate the diabolical lie. He's bringing the testimony of his wife to other women. There are more and more women unmarried and childless suffering because they believed this diabolical lie and they cannot go back in time and make different choices. But these women need not repeat the choices that lead to the suffering their elders are enduring.
2. Marriage and children, or the Word used in the preamble of the U.S. Constitution, our posterity, is Germany 80 years ago?
Some of you will choose to live for yourselves. But he ventured to guess most will not choose to live selfishly. Most life for their posterity.
Yes! I'm annoyed by these defenses too. I'm a stay at home Mom to a toddler and an infant, and I did not hear him "just praising his wife." My husband praises what I do for our family, yet somehow he manages to do so without disrespecting the life choices of others. Women are not misunderstanding Taylor's boyfriend's teammate, we HEARD what he said, and the praise for his wife was just a small part.
Women who were in this audience have come out saying how much they hated it and that the men were eating it up. While he did get a standing ovation, there were graduates also booing him.
@@viciousfunshine which women 🤣🤣🤣🤣??? they all praised his speech, I would have.
Harrison's mom is an extremely accomplished physicist. This felt like a very quiet jab at her, for having a career and not "leaning" into motherhood enough.
Here’s my main issue about this speech: This was supposed to be a graduation celebration….and he’s talking about THIS downer stuff right off the bat. 🤨
Not everything is about you needing to spread your worldview. Some moments - like a graduation - should just be about celebrating an accomplishment.
Right? And it seems like he's just whining about himself and what upsets HIM the whole time. Sir, this isn't about you. Sit down.
Also its so weird how hard evangelicals went defending this speech and it's full of Catholic theology they were just calling idolatry the other day 😂
It’s not Catholic doctrine, it’s biblical doctrine. We don’t disagree on everything.
I was thinking the same thing. Many other denominations of Christianity will often distance themselves from Catholics but now they have all rushed to defend them. 😂
If this was my grad speech I'd want a refund😂😂😂
53:22 The Latin Mass movement is a more radical branch of Catholicism that believes the church has become too “modern”.
This whole speech was so dumb. And the irony of a football player giving a political commencement address repeating 5 times to stay in your lane…
Hasn’t the Covid class been through enough? 😂
I wonder what he thought of Colin Kapernick. (Sp?)
@@RobAGaborI suspect that he should stay in his lane too, because he doesn't want to compete equally.
lol, a catholic college, who cheered through his speech, and gave him a standing ovation.
you should stay in yours, and shut your wormhole.
Yes, I came here to say this. The world would be better if this guy would just stay in his lane. So privileged and naive
@@megpeter He is in his lane, he was invited there to speak, and he is giving his opinion, you pathetic crybully.
34:50 The idea that someone feels like their life truly started only when she became a wife and a mother, is so incredibly sad to me. What if she had not found her person? What if she couldn't have children? Her life wouldn't truly start at all then??? Wow, such a beautiful and inspiring thought🙄
I feel like this idea that your life doesn't begin until marriage and children is very pervasive in Christianity. When Butker said women have been 'diabolically lied to' about having a career, I think he got it completely wrong. Because for me, the idea or expectation that I had to be married by a certain time weighed heavily on me throughout my 20s and early 30s, and for me, that was the real 'lie' I had been told by society, and by Christian culture in particular.
I spent my 20s being so stressed about needing to start my life with a husband.
I'm in my 40s now and still haven't found a husband but I left the church and don't feel that stress as much. Best thing I ever did for my mental health!
All I had heard about the speech is the women-should-be-homemakers part, but wow, this was soooooo much more problematic than that!
That was the main clip I was seeing too which prompted me to do the reaction, I had no idea all the other shots he’d take!
He’s not even 30 years old yet. I wouldn’t want any man to be talking about this, especially at my college graduation. He’s just so young and it’s kind of scary people very close to my age (I’m 24) have these kind of beliefs harbored and there’s a growing number of men who are extremists and want to go back to “the way things were”
Beliefs that go against modern degeneracy? Give me a break
Not a single person on this planet should ever become a parent unless they completley desire BEING a parent, the population is no where near extinction level to be given the its your.obligation to humanity shame... with the amount of people sorting out childhood abuse and trauma would indicate that perhaps if someone is not truly ALL IN on being a parent... the kindest thing they can do IS NOT being a parent or having children they will likely neglect or not sincerely care for
I have CPTSD because my parents were both neglected & abused. & since they didn't know better they didn't do enough to raise me. After lots of therapy & looking inward, I realized only recently that I raised myself. Some people don't know how to be safe w/ kids & should not have them.
Yep. There's reproduction and then there's parenting. My devout catholic grandmother had 13 children. She was miserable. She did her best to provide for their physical needs but food insecurity, neglect , lack of privacy , parentification made for some very messed up adults. My mom struggled her whole life from the effects of her childhood. Let's just say none of the 13 children went on to have a large families themselves.
So i guess you are ok with USA having Sharia law in 75 years.

My win for the week is that I started a community garden with my friends! We planted tomatoes, mint, onions, peppers, zucchini, and a currant bush. Then we just sat around and talked for five hours
Just be careful planting mint in the ground! It will spread EVERYWHERE 😆

My win for the week is we've finally adopted another dog, exactly one year, one month, one week and one day since we lost my previous dog at age 19. She's a beautiful Frenchie, and we already absolutely adore her. Congratulations on your pregnancy B ❤
Outside of all the obvious stuff he said, I’d be so annoyed that my one moment to be self indulgent, proud, nostalgic, etc was overshadowed by multiple political slights and tropes. I’m sure he’s giddy he fit TSwift lyrics, Pride month, Joe Biden, and the AP into a speech, but can’t a person have a moment?!
Despite being agnostic, raised in an agnostic home, I had my kids young (21 and 22 years old) and I'm a stay-at-home mom... Both my kids have special needs and I still don't work now that they are 10 and 11. I'm always amazed at how people don't realise how much work kids are when you focus on giving them the very best care you can, and just say that you should have kids to be happy. I can say that my life would be absolutely miserable right now if I didn't want kids in the first place or if I was someone who needed to work to feel accomplished...
WTF kind of graduation speech is this?!
Also, the people who say "stay in your lane" are usually the ones who need to follow their own advice.
I’m like 2 mins into the speech part and I’m already shocked and gagged??? How did nobody stop this man
my win for the week is that i went to the dentist, therapy AND now i have a baby bunny !!
I am glad you ventured into this. I love the Benedictine’s founding order’s response-check that out. Practicing single Catholic woman here. The Church is against IVF and surrogacy in all forms, which makes his speech even more a slap in the face for those who cannot be mothers. The issues happening in Alabama in IVF clinics is one the church has debated and decided that they were not going to allow IVF due to concerns about life. Lots of my Catholic friends have made jokes about how NFP is not Catholic enough for him…The church is millennia old and the stance against artificial birth control only came out when a consistent method was offered to women in the 1960s. Also developed in the 1960s, the TLM! Different forms of the mass have been available for centuries. Carolingian reforms of the ninth century developed a standard across the Roman Empire. The missal HB and TLM uses is the 1962 edition of the Roman Missal. It was quite controversial for the changes it brought. The big choice about TLM is that it rejects Vatican II which allowed mass to be offered in vernacular languages. Vatican II ended in 1965. So HB doesn’t want tradition; he wants the world to return to pre-1963.
the funniest part of the Taylor Swift quote is that she didn't come up with that quote! in english, it was first documented by CHAUCER centuries ago. in latin? 5 AD, St. Augustine, someone he'd probably prefer to quote if he were actually interested in aligning with his "values."
that whole bit was included in the speech only to soothe his fragile ego. he can't stand (allegedly) that she is independently famous and wealthy and better-known than him, so if he can get a dig in, he will take every opportunity to do so. not naming her but openly quoting her song in the context of "women should want motherhood and wifedom as vocations and have been subjected to diabolical lies about wanting anything else" seemed to be an attempt to "put her in her place" - which, hahaha you just guaranteed a chart-topping song is going to be written about you, dude.
You are crazy, do you know that? He didn't get a "dig" in at her, he didn't insult her in the slightest. He made a joke that relies on the fact that she and Kelce are a huge news item. Notice how he says "my teammate's girlfriend?" He has like 10+ teammates. How do you know which of his teammates he's talking about? The same reason you know he's talking about Taylor Swift, because Kelce is the only one of his teammate's whose girlfriend is newsworthy. If he was insulting Taylor by not naming her, was he also insulting Kelce? Oh, no, you didn't think of that, did you.
Seriously, he made the joke because most of the women in the audience only know of him as "the guy on the team that Taylor's boyfriend is on," and were wondering if he would mention her. She he mentioned her obliquely because it's funnier than just name-dropping. If he just said "As Taylor Swift wrote in one of her songs..." it wouldn't be funny or even have a point in the song.
@@wolfofthewest8019 We can agree to disagree without calling each other names. We read the speech differently. That doesn't make either of us "crazy." I hope you have a good weekend.
The message about marriage and babies was a huge part of purity culture in the late 90's/early 00's.
I really blame my 2 unsuccessful marriages on this programing because I placed marriage on a pedestal.
I dealt with infertility in my second marriage, the messaging hit so hard that I felt I was being punished. My grandma even told me "have you considered its God's Will that you don't have children"
I was on the IVF track when I got devestating news that my body was not responding to the thousands of dollars in medication and I had 6% chance of conceiving. I had to make a major life decision in 45 minutes. I miraculously conceived twins, but only one made it to term.
Irony is that for all their soapbox around childrearing and being present for your kid, they are real silent and never support SAHDs. Even he knows his words are a sham.
The reason traditionalist are silent on SAHDs is because the goal is to restore the concept of gender roles to society. Its not actually true that they want to make all women get married and have kids, but they do want to return to the _assumption_ that girls will grow up to be wives and mothers, not childless careerists, sex workers, or men. What they want is bring back home economics, and teaching girls skills necessary to be a mother, and teach boys to be husbands and fathers not incels and redpillers.
The idea is you make a box that makes 85-90% of people happy and you put everyone in the box, and then you let the 10-15% that are really determined to get out of the box out, but then everyone else is getting well set up for a nice, normal, happy life.
Those boxes have to have men as the primary provider/secondary caregiver and women as primary caregivers/secondary provider, because young women who want SAHDs are essentially nonexistent. You can't teach boys to be homemakers because "Hi, you're cute, can I knock you up and then send you right back to work so you can support me while I care for the kids?" is a pick up line that works on basically no one.
SAHDs, in other words beta males.
Is he running for office or giving a graduation speech?
Both
My win for the week is that I finally found a wedding dress! I picked it out today and I'm very excited for the day that my partner and I get to have our celebration with our loved ones ^_^
Yay!!! So exciting, I hope you have the best wedding and a beautiful marriage 💛🥳
"the catholic church has always been countercultural" dude the catholic church WAS culture for centuries
They are probably talking about Protestant and Orthodox. 🤷♀️ Not that the difference means anything grandeur that he thinks of.
"Having my wife stay home full time to become my new mommy was the best decision I've ever made"-Harrison butker
My parents waited 13 years after getting married before having kids. And I'm glad they did, or my life would have turned out very differently. And not for the better.
Awful speech, and really, he doesn’t give his own mother, a physicist, any credit for why he is on that stage? What a jerk.
Always been so baffled about the church's pushing everyone toward marriage/family--even as a little kid (grew up in the church and still am very much part of one, thankfully one that values women) i was like "um, if anything the Bible tells us to NOT get married and have kids"
Talk about “pushing your agenda…” It’s a freaking graduation not a Trump rally!!
A commencement speech is NOT the place to force your views on people!!!
EXACTLY!!! This is a celebration not a campaign
Right?? Very strange
Even assuming everyone there agrees with these views, a commencement speech isn’t where you’d discuss issues with political and religious leaders!!! A commencement speech is about beginning careers, possibly leaving school for the first time, adulthood etc… Like… tf was this rambling bs!?
This is such a miserable speech, so inspiring and just hateful and derogatory.
People who have endless kids make me sick to my stomach. I don’t really have an issue if both people are on board with having a big family but usually those people push it on others and look down on married couples who want to have a family of 1 or just want to be childfree. Also if I’m on a plane I don’t want to see or hear alot of children. Seeing big families like the quiverful people make me concerned and give me the ick.
Is it because you know the older kids are raising the younger ones, i.e. parentification? That's what bugs me the most
@@itsnotrounditsapyramid yeah plus I don’t think it’s healthy for a woman to have that many kids
@@Iam_Celene absolutely, I knew a very sweet Mormon mom of like 15 kids who could barely walk and maybe weighed 90 lbs. I loved that woman but she was BEAT you know
Imagine spending like $80k on an education and having to sit and listen to this b.s. also, I'm a wife and a mum and going back to school for nursing as a career change in my 30s. Like seriously, how are you going to tell grown people what to do 🫠 what a clown
I feel bad for kids whose parents don't use birth control. I'm the oldest daughter of a fairly large Mormon family. When I was born my dad was unemployed due to a back injury from his job about 4 months prior. There was nothing my parents could have done about that in family planning. And I dearly love each of my younger siblings, but for much of my childhood we couldn't afford to pay all the bills. I did not get super parentified, but my third sister definitely did, since she was the oldest at home by the time my mom finally gave in and went back to work full time. We're all grown up, and are happy that the youngest siblings get to have the support of parents who can afford to have them live at home during college breaks, but we also still have weird things and mental hang ups about things because of how we were raised. We all have different presentations of poverty relationships with food and/or money.
35:00 - the fact that he thinks the only way a woman is valuable is to be a wife or mother irritates me. Some women don’t want to get married. Some women do not want kids. I could go on… he just needs to stop because some women do not want that. It does not mean women are “less than” just because they don’t get married or have kids. It’s just so much pressure to fit into this so-called box. 😒
I'm pagan (raised Mormon), and I wouldn't want to force my beliefs on someone just because I'm in a political office. I'm neurodivergent, so I constantly ask my friends questions when I don't understand why they believe things they do. I'm just trying to see their point of view. But I wouldn't want to force everyone else to be pagan like me. If it doesn't fit you, you do you.
I’m so glad you covered this train wreck.
The Catholic Church doesn’t like any IVF, even if it is done for a heterosexual couple. The main reason for this is the fact that embryos are destroyed during the process. But another reason they don’t like it is because they think the only way new humans should be created is through what they call “conjugal intimacy.”
The most charitable thing I can say about this speech is that it was inappropriate.
My Win for the Week was that I got to see an incredible dog-and-acrobat show during halftime of the soccer game I went to last night.
A trainwreck is a great way to describe it 😬

Former Catholic, the TLM is considered the more traditional version of the mass because it is all in Latin. There’s a lot of history around pre Vatican II (1950s) vs Post Vatican II (1950s-today), which was a decision made to change the language spoken during the mass from Latin to English. The Pope (head of the church) has determined both as proper ways to attend the mass, however, he emphasizes that they should not be pitted against each other. Typically when a form of the religion is changed there is formal comment (which is why it is called Vatican II, there are others) on changing the practice of the religion then it comes from the Pope directly. A lot of traditional (typically conservative) Catholics will say the TLM is the only proper way to practice the mass and that any other version is heresy which is false and there are schisms (a branchoff of Catholicism that is not recognized formally as the religion) that have developed due to that line of thinking. I am assuming that Harrison is apart of a church that follows those schisms due to his comments. Overall, this speech has left a bad taste in my mouth because it showcases a side of Catholicism that is not formally recognized and the Pope has actively combatted the conservative American movement that has been going on in the church here.
Yeah, that was an interesting slant to take in this speech. Cost of living should be second to Latin mass? I found it almost more surprising than the rest, which seemed to fall more into standard Catholic orthodoxy. (Never Catholic, but had friends with similar views to him).
@@gretchensmith2852 right! I agree, and it’s part of why I assume he’s apart of a schism of Catholicism because that’s typically the mindset of those schism.
Do you believe sir that to be a good Catholic, every man should go out there and become an NFL kicker? We are not all the same, nor is God's plan for us. My 'lane' does look like anyone else's. Stop comparing them
I didn't grow up in religion but I did grow up in Ireland which is a predominantly catholic country, less so now due to the various atrocities the church has inflicted and general rebellion from the younger generations. The real irony of this is the consistent danger the Catholic Church has put children in, not only with the constant covering up of child abusers but also the "schools" they ran and the mother and baby homes in Ireland where unwed mothers were abandoned and abused.
It is a church that has consistently hated women from the beginning of time from not letting them be leaders in the church to practically enforcing not using birth control. I think my grandmother put it best what it is like growing up in a catholic enforced country, "cow's are treated better than women here".
I think the NFL will have allot to answer for here after blacklisting Kaepernick for standing against racism and allowing him to spout dangerous opinions and having no repercussions. This form of Christian perceive themselves to be marginalised yet get away with absolutely everything, make it make sense.

Grew up in the Catholic culture and went to a Catholic high school. His speech isn't anywhere near what I was taught. We were heavily encouraged to continue onto higher education and move into a career that we wanted. The focus was on chasing our dreams and what we wanted in life. It just blows my mind that some Catholics are actually promoting this and frankly makes me very happy I left the faith.

Lapsed Catholic here umm so for the Latin mass crowd that’s the mass that’s (in their view) was handed down from the og church the kicker (pardon my pun) is that the original mass wasn’t in latin it was probably in Greek
He makes me feel queasy. He literally told women they're meant to be tools and female autonomy is immoral/sinful. It's simply antithetical to the message of Christ.
I'm honestly surprised nobody is talking about the low-key antisemitic comment he made about "who really killed Jesus." People like him seem to forget that Jesus and his disciples were, in fact, Jewish. 🤦♀️
So Jews can't kill other Jews 😂😂.
Also you're using the term wrong. 😂😂
The bible does actually say the Jews (as opposed to the Romans) killed Jesus, it's just not interpreted that way anymore. His (unfounded) concern is that because the Bible has been used to justify antisemitism in the past, this new bill could be used to criminalize the bible or something.
The bill passed on the 5th, the speech was on the 11th, and in the six days in between there was a lot of noise and fake news on the right wing side of the media over it, because they're always afraid the left is coming for their bibles. I assume he just got taken by the bad reporting.
For those wondering why he was chosen for this particular commencement speech in the first place, I have a fairly good idea as to why: Butker has ties to the Federalist Society. Leonard Leo, currently a chairmain of the Federalist Society's board of directors and their former vice president, gave the commencement speech at Benedictine College just last year. This makes it easy to believe that perhaps Butker was picked by Leo / others at TFS to give a speech chock-full of right-wing ideology. Just some food for thought.
My win for the week is having the determination to keep up my job search despite being rejected after my last interview and getting more business casual clothes that I actually like. I also take some joy in knowing that it would make Butker and people who think like him mad if they knew that I'm an almost 29 y/o single woman with no current plans to get married and have kids. Instead, I'm trying to pave my own way.
Win for the week: Today my parents and I took a tour of graves for our family that have passed away. My grandparents and great-grandparents as well as an aunt, to be specific. It was a fun trip with my parents and we had a good time reminiscing about the people who are not with us anymore.

2. The number of times he said "stay in your lane" made me think about the Hannah Brown season of The Bachelorette because that phrase came up so much.
3. He talked about a lot of women's issues considering that he is a man. Maybe he needs to take his own advice and stay in his lane a bit more.
4. On a fun side note, I've seen videos of women at the gym lifting the same weight the Harrison weighs and I absolutely love everything about that concept and hope more gym girlies get to do it.
My win for the week is I got a new car!! 😍 ..btw your hair with the hoops and headband is so freaking cute im obsessed! ...also being anti surrogacy and ivf is crazy to me for someone claiming to be "family oriented" ...kind of elitist like "oop...God didn't give you the tools to naturally conceive must not be his will and you can't do anything about it" ...cruel.
One of the most shocking things in the speech is when everyone claps!! Wtf?.
Yep. That's the point, the speech wasn't for you, so get a grip.
@@Christusregna yes it was.
@@babybluecheeks You're a conservative Catholic who just graduated from Benedictine College? No? Then it was not for you.
I truly just hate everything that came out of his mouth. Every word.
i’d love to be able to support you but i think i’m gonna have to skip this video. the amount of misogyny that i’ve seen online recently has really raised my anxiety levels. take care and i’ll see y’all next week💕
Hi B. I've been watching your channel for a while. I am a complete atheist (was raised as a secular Jew), and I think you're really awesome. You are so respectful, and your criticism is always fascinating and brave, as well as super intelligent. I can say with all honesty that I don't know many people of faith that show your wisdom and particular courage. Thank you for being YOU ❣️
Thank you B! Have a great week!
Idk why but maternity clothes seem to be the ugliest… did not help my self esteem when I was pregnant
The reason that there is a push for having kids in the church is simple. The religion with the most people, has the most power. The catholic church has done this for centuries.
No, its because when a society doesn't push for marriage and children, what you get is incels, redpillers, onlyfans, single mothers, etc.
“As my teammates’ girlfriend says, ‘familiarity breeds contempt!’” Dude, I don’t think you can attribute that to her. Chaucer had the first recorded use of the phrase but it is older than that.
Congratulations on starting your family! 🎉
My win for the week is going to the beach with my mom and spending all day Thursday just laying in the sand and finally finishing reading a book I’ve been working on for two months (I’m a very slow reader).
My win for the week is I just got back from my family vacation to Tennessee
I hope you had an amazing trip! 🎉
This speech was so painful to listen to the first time, but I'm so interested to hear your commentary on it that ill do it again 🫠🤣
"Familiarity breeds contempt" actually comes front St. Augustine (a Catholic thinker). He is beyond stupid with attributing it to Taylor Swift instead of attributing it to the originator of the quote, which would make sense, given that he is giving this speech at a CATHOLIC school.
Or he was making a joke. Which is why people laughed.
Oh I’ve been waiting for this video 😂
urgh. trad caths. how i loathe them.
Not Catholic, but I do attend a liturgical church. So much of what he's saying is so freaking nitpicky and specific. I can't think of a single person I've met who would actually say "you should attend only Latin mass" with their whole chest. I'm honestly kinda shocked his anti-semetic statement didn't make the news either, cause that was pretty vile.
I grew up Catholic, none of his speech surprised me
I grew up Catholic too! And still am. I guess I’m still a bit naive, because it still shocks me people think like this. Idk, I was raised by a devout Catholic father who believes in love and understanding and acceptance. My catholic family is VERY different than people like this man.
I mean, I have way too many thoughts on that speech having heard it now, and I don't really want to write it all in an essay, so I'll just say that it's probably not a great reflection on Benedictine College that they gave the okay for him to give this kind of speech that would get broadcast to the world.
Can you imagine the women going up to get their diplomas after that knowing so many men in that room would prefer them to stay home and have their babies? Like they wasted their time in University. Talk about sending a shame message. Gross.
In regards to IVF, I think most Catholics say they are against it due to the destruction of embryos, not so much because of gay couples using it, especially if they have a strong prolife stance.
The destruction of embryos, plus the Church teaches that children have a natural right to be born my the natural union of their parents. So like, no turkey basters.

What a creep!
I'm an old lady. I've been married for 40 years...6 years is not enough to be so black and white.
First of all, as far as I'm concerned, he is a baby Christian. He doesn't really understand what he is talking about.
Secondly, a lot, lot of Catholics use birth control. When my mother-in-law passed, letters were found of her talking about using birth control. However, she always claimed that others should not.
Never would have thought that B is a fellow girlie! I love watching DWKT!
Girlies unite! 😂 I watched Jessi’s content years ago so I love that she’s in front of the camera again!
30:25 - I hate the saying, “live in the world, but not be of it.” I just think it is so hypocritical. 🙄😒
How?
Be specific
He completely missed the point of Silence.
45:18 - even a couple having four kids… it’s difficult to give attention to each child… I know this family… they have four kids, but the parents clearly neglect the three older kids and only cares about the youngest. It’s just not cool. Take care of and show attention and spend time with your oldest kids too. They need and want the attention as well. I just think any more than like two kids is a horrible idea.
Some of these folks acting up in arms over the idea of their book being banned, are so close to getting it. Your book (bible, New Testament, etc.) isn't even close to being banned, but you're already losing your mind about it. Hmmm. Almost as though you feel like you should be able to read whatever you want. Weird.
This is a funny comment since the Bible is actually banned from classrooms, unlike the preteen sex guides you're so quick to defend. Exactly why do 12-year-olds need to know what scat play is? Why can't they learn it on 4chan like everyone else?
Ever time I listen to this speech I get so mad. Who the hell does he think he is. Very judgmental. God said not to judge. 😡
About the TLM or Traditional Latin Mass briefly, based on a brief research:
(I would link but ytube doesn't allow that and it wasn't in English anyway.)
So in 1962, the Catholic Chruch had the 2nd Vatican Council, where they modernised a few things about the Catholic Church. The biggest of which was the Mass.
Quote from the wiki page: "an extensive reform of the liturgy; a renewed theology of the Church, of revelation and of the laity; and new approaches to relations between the Church and the world, to ecumenism, to non-Christian religions, and to religious freedom"
The biggest, for the average believer, were the changes to the Mass.
This was when the Church allowed the Mass to be performed in the vernacular, meaning national languages. So they translated the whole liturgy and people could understand what the priest was saying without knowing Latin.
The TLM is the more traditional and "strict" liturgy. It's performed in Latin and uses the pre-1962 version.
The priest also peforms it "ad orientem", with their back to the people, and facing the altar, so in essence facing God.
(PS: Greek Catholics still do it this way.)
Also after 1962, they adopted performing the Mass "versus populum", so facing the people. This was not even that rare, quote:
"In the Tridentine Roman Missal published in 1570, however, ad orientem and versus populum are not mutually exclusive."
This is all the information I could find about the TLM. Caveat, I'm not in the US and I am Roman Catholic but I never attended an actual TLM, only modern masses.
I have attended Greek Catholic Mass, where the priest was facing away the whole time, it was really interesting.
Some Catholics (I never met any of them) don't like the Modern Mass because they think it's disprespectful to God and makes the priests too focused on worldly things.
Being a homemaker is great if it is a choice that is freely made. It is NOT a vocation for all women. Not all women have the talent for motherhood, and if they recognize that, they should be respected. Many women have made wonderful contributions to all societies that don't include having children. I (personally) would have preferred to be a homemaker, however, that option was not in the cards. If men want their wives to remain at home, they need to truly provide a comfortable life for their families. This includes a home, food, clothing and extras for the kiddos. Also, last but not least, his honey's handbags.
OMG DWKT SHOUT OUTTTTT
As a Catholic myself...umm WHAT?? First of all, tons of problematic content here even for Catholics. Secondly, none of it is suitable for a graduation speech! This is a social media rant, not a commencement speech!
I don't remember exactly which Christian religion has the specific goal of getting as many generations into "leadership" as possible in political life and abolishing the separation of religion and state.... I have a bit of a feeling that he is one among them....
