Aztertyuiop and Moscow Flyer clashed the following year and it was the 2003 winner that regained the title.

There's no pressure on these horses to jump fences, they just love it and Moscow flyer proved it here... jumped for fun when he was lose and finished the race

My memory of this race was the effort old Flagship Uberalles put in coming second. Completely written off after his effort in the race the year before & then in the Tingle Creek it was great to see him bounce back to form. Wish there was a video of the Irish Champion Chase at Punchestown were he won. Everyone said the usual "Moscow Flyer would have won if he didn't fall" but I remember thinking how well Flagship was still going 2 out when MF fell....shame he didnt stand up as would have been a hell of a battle as Flagship was and still is the toughest horse in a battle ive seen over 2miles

I remember backing him in a 2 horse race in his novice days and he went off at 11/4!!! if memory serves. (Tresor De Mai was fav.) And he obviously won, and won a few more quid when he won the Arkle @11/1, another unbelieveable price. My favourite race of his was winning the QMCC when he was first off the bridle. Would have traded at huge prices in running that day.

My memory of this race is Venn Ottery. It's hard to believe that if his owner didn't have a screw loose, he would've had an excellent career

My abiding memory of this race is Venn Ottery absolutely tanking along just before the straight. Nicholls transformed him that season from a laughing stock. Who knows what would have happened if his gereatric owner hadn't declared him to run without his tongue tie.

P will have to see about getting a copy of that. Should be a few good tales from his riding days as well.

Yes, it just showed what a good trainer Nichols could be. So different from Pipe who made his corn running 1/6 on shots against donkeys at Taunton and Ludlow. Still think Moscow Flyer would have beaten him, but Azertioup was a very, very good horse on his day.

Mmmm. A clean sweep of Arkle winners although Flagship Uberalles won the latter race in 1999 and waited three years to win the speed chasers championship.

My brother trained (in human terms) a cousin of AZERTYUIOP to win two races and be placed 8 times.

Very dodgy ride on Venn Ottery here. The horse could not have been going any better, but the jockey never even tried to get him to challenge. Bizarre stuff.

Love how Moscow came through for 3rd! XD ..Would have been some race between him and Azertyuiop..

Azertyuiop ridden the right way. Maybe Moscow would have beaten him anyway, but Azerty's main weapon was his quick jumping. He couldn't beat Moscow for speed, but he could put pressure on his jumping. In the following season the Tingle Creek was run to suit Moscow. Azerty then ran in the King George (very well), but it got to the bottom of him, and he was definitely lacklustre at Cheltenham.

They didn't "clash" this was the only way asertyuiop could beat Moscow flyer he spent his whole career chasing after him
