We are doing ourselves a disservice as a team by not making a more concerted effort to find Maluach when he is open.
I kinda agree and disagree. Lol. I said that in the beginning of the season and last couple games he's been different.. very Lethargic... I don't see him energy.. at times, his reactions are a tad slow and watches the ball alot instead of going to get in a better position to get a rebound.. .. but I do wish he was alot more aggressive with the ball on offense and he gets the ball often in the freethrow area... he should be in a tripple threat scoring position, not a passing/hand-off position. Because he's always in a Handoff/pass position the guy guarding him is always playing safety and protecting the handoff... he should be in a attack and drive position, pumpfake ect... keep the defense honest, I've seen him handle the ball he can pumpfake and drive, he's a good passer as well to kick if they collapse on him.. so in that part I agree... but he's gotta.act like he wants it and more energy
This is a great post here. For Duke to be at its best they need to apply more rim pressure. Forcing pressure at the rim will open the perimeter up more and it will take pressure off guys. There are a number of plays where Maluach is open for a dunk off a screen and slip.
But either way, Proctor seems to disappear too frequently, he has to make more of a presence. And so does James game to game. Really, Jon needs to be playing Evans more but since he’s not, the other guys have to make more of a “gamely” impact on the offense. Needs to be more consistent.
I think when brown is back Duke will feel more like they did before he got hurt. I think him missing is huge
People are overlooking the fact that state had a fluke-shooting night that most teams would have lost to...
This is true, but aren’t you overlooking that some of our guys aren’t consistent contributors on offense night after night? Especially given that this is the team to take us out of the ACC and NCAA tournament last year???? Why aren’t we punching them in the mouth and smashing them?????
For me, my biggest concern is the player personnel, no Evans. I’m very worried it will bite Duke in the end.
Especially when Kon isn’t efficient in the first half (3 for 9 or just 33% on high volume). Seems like Jon takes Evans out unless he makes his first shot. But I would be willing to bet Evans would contribute more to the offense on the same volume. I mean if you look at Evan’s eFG% which is .639 that is far and beyond better than Kon’s .550. And when you get into games with more efficient teams in March, Duke probably won’t dig themselves out of these type of holes.
Can’t help but scratch my head with the coaching this season, but hopefully Jon gets it done.
Flagg didn’t have a slow scoring start. He had 26 pts & 12 rebs v. Kentucky & 22 & 11 v. Arizona. Absolutely agree that Duke needs at least 2 dependable “go to” players offensively beyond Flagg. What if he’s in foul trouble? Injured? has a bad game? Is prevented from scoring 23 pts in 2nd half? Auburn won 3 big SEC games w/ Broome out. Duke would’ve lost to Wake & NC State without Flagg.
I’m just kind of concerned that we don’t have a lot of synergy on offense, if you’re relying on your star player like we are this deep in the year, it makes me feel a little nervous
It’s basketball I understand adjustments have to be made. But Duke should have easily walked these guys. I know we get everyone’s best but two games we have to go zone it’s crazy
There is no such thing as easy in the. ACC. People been saying this about our conference foe the last 20 years plus.... Critics and fans get so caught up on rankings. This has always been a very well coached conference. So they are going to come and give us 1000% when it says Duke on the other Jerseys.. Carolina is having a bad season losing many close games this season. U think they aren't gonna come jacked for this game?? We're undefeated in our league and 2nd in the country. They are all coming after us to be the 1st upset in our conference... Duke has to mentally come ready every night or they will be upset by someone who's not as good as them..

As a duke fan I'm here to tell you all that duke isn't winning it all this...scheyer suspect coaching will bite us at the end..and I'll be shocked if flagg makes it out the regular season healthy because jon plays him too many minutes. Why? Because of his suspect coaching. He needs flagg to bail him out
Who will win it?
I get so tired of Duke fans banging on Scheyer. These same fans would’ve ran Coach K out of Durham in his early years. I think Jon has like an 80+% win percentage and has gone deeper in March each year. Coach K was well known for riding his best players every year for 35-40 mins a game and Scheyer took a lot of that philosophy and incorporated it into his coaching style. Jon is doing just fine and there aren’t too many coaches that could’ve made the transition of coaching after a legend like he has done. The nitpicking is ridiculous.

John Scheyer is Duke’s biggest liability. I’ve been saying this all year. He’s been over playing his starters and has not developed his bench. Evans is gonna look great at an SEC school next season. To much iso ball we won’t win a title like this.
@GPrice-mg8mi- And I'll say you have no.clue what ur talking about alllllll. This year... he plays 9 to 10 a night. Minus not playing Maliq.. this team has improved every time they take the floor.. . Evans isn't going nowhere.... He's made some progress but he's got a long way to go....
I agree with the poster here. I have been saying the same thing all year as well. Duke has to have a guy that can torch the nets when other players go cold or are unreliable.
eFG% is the biggest determining factor of winning basketball games. Guess who has the best eFG% on Duke’s roster that’s NOT a big man??? (big men have high eFG% because most of their baskets are dunks)
Isaiah Evans. And yet he barely plays.
How does this make any sense??? The name of the game is who can put up more points on a possession by possession basis, yet Evans hardly gets any shot attempts or minutes. Completely baffling and his eFG% is strikingly higher than the other guards on this team.
Not that I want to see anybody go, but who would you be more worried to lose in the portal next year if you had to cut someone’s minutes, Foster or Evans????
I hate saying it, but Foster isn’t a star. I hope he will become one, but Jon better look for someone more dynamic in the portal next season if he wants to build another Championship level roster for next season. I hope Foster is back as a depth piece again.
As for Evans, he’s an NBA player and already NBA ready given the NBA only cares about being 3PT efficient. He should be getting more FGA and playing time this season!!!
He will be one of the biggest offensive contributors to whichever team he plays for next season. Funny thing is he was very good at attacking the rim in high school. But Jon just hasn’t allowed him to develop in this offense or challenged him to grow. And I can understand that to the extent of what personnel he has on this roster. But he is an elite difference maker offensively. Hopefully we have him playing the 3 next year and averaging 17 a night.
