    Let’s not bury the lead here. Cooper flag got a post touch in this game. And Maluach made a move from the elbow where he dribbled the ball 3 times (once between his legs) and got fouled on a little jump hook attempt. And he might be the best FT shooter on the team. This leads me to believe that passing him the ball in the post a few times a game might be a good option.

    • @slick11o54
      @slick11o54 2 дні тому

      Been saying that since preseason. Lol. I really hope they give Malauch more touches and the ball more as an offensive weapon. Not a passer abd screener .. everything he catches the ball he should be in a Tripple threat position when in the perimeter. ... Not his back to the basket and handing the ball

    I'm as big a Duke fan as you can find.....but let's not kid ourselves.....that offensive performance was more about us than George Mason. Kon is either in a Jack White type slump or he just wasn't the shooter we thought he was....same goes for Gillis and Foster. For a team full of shooters we sure can't seem to make open three's. Isiah Evans excluded

    • @tallcip65

    Cooper will continue to struggle, teams know not to guard him at the 3 point line. His form changes depending on where he shoots from, it’s a glaring weakness that I don’t think he can fix this year but the emergence of Evans still makes the team dangerous.

    Personally would like to see proctor initiating the offense more. He shoots better off the dribble than a lot of the players and would allow Flagg and foster to attack more out of different sets. And kneupel to be more of a shooter. Duke is lucky they have this many that can initiate the offense. Kneupel runs the pick and roll well.

      @@slick11o54 - I don’t think it’s as cut and dry as that-he played the PG spot pretty strong once he replaced Roach as the primary ball handler in his freshman season-all of his numbers went up in terms of scoring, assists and 3P% while keeping his TOs low. That was all within their traditional offense with Flip and Lively at the 4 & 5. He struggled last year running the point after Duke failed to land a legit C and were forced to slide Flip to that spot along with McCain’s talent forcing a 3 guard lineup creating an entirely different offense to run. I’m not advocating for Duke to move him to the point, but I’m not opposed to it either, because I think he’ll thrive in either spot this year… he just looks far more confident out there. His next step needs to be shutting down an opposing scoring guard while not sacrificing all of his offense.

    • @slick11o54
      @slick11o54 4 дні тому

      @mike2687 Tyrese Proctor is no point guard.. We watched 2 years of Turnovers, Over dribbling and beating the name out of the ball and going nowhere fast. He's never had the ability to create a counter move and get by his man and create for others.. the last 2 years he was weak and Frail and would get bumped off his box any time he attempted to attack the basket. I will say he has got more muscle since last years but still needs to get stronger. But is much better and more effective off the ball. He wasn't better then Jeremy either. Roach could get by his man and had counter. Moves, but was weak with the ball then bumped like Tyrese. Only Proctor was much taller.and could still get. A shot off.. Tyrese shot has. Improved and needs.to shoot it when he's open. Btw.. Roach's is still weak and gets thrown around at Baylor.. lol. Foster and James are bother very good point guards and can get by there man to the basket and can absorb contact better then pe Proctor. Leave it as it is

    • @mike2687
      @mike2687 4 дні тому

      @ - “we watched 2 years of turnovers…” Proctors TO per game each season: Fr 1.6 So 1.3 Jr 1.3 No, he didn’t consistently struggle with turnovers outside of one specific area-he struggled against the press which we saw late in a handful of games. Nice take 🤣🤣🤣 As for being a pure PG-nope, he is not. Neither is James coming off a zero assist game vs Auburn… nor were Scheyer and Smith from that natty squad. However, I don’t see the need for a pure pg-I like a big backcourt that can defend and rebound well… I like Foster too and he’s been attacking well off the dribble. I’m saying Proctor looks ready to play well whether on or off the ball and having the team built like it is, the ability to create seems lesser for this Duke team compared to past ones. I don’t see any clear argument that his third year is in any way better than his freshmen year once he replaced Roach at PG… in fact, I’d say they’re remarkably similar both being around 38% and is now up to 41.5% (in a 10 game sample size-and the only number significantly down are, understandably, assists. I’ve already given my take on why I believe yr 2 was off-same for why Flip had such small improvements in yr 2.

DUDE is 7 ' 2 when he catches the ball on top or perimeter he NEVER squares up 2 the basket or looks to the basket. That seems to be Deliberate in the offense. Not sure why . He can shoot jumpshots and has good ball handling skills to drive .

      Remember that Mark Williams took 1-2 of those shots every other game. That’s just not something you see from centers-even though Malauch is damn good from the stripe. My guess iis that they’d like to see him get rebounds and lockouts or hopefully stick backs Maluach’s value is in rebounding and kicking it out for 3s. I do think that Duke hit on something w force feeding him vs a mid major. We rarely use guys in that role ( Wendell Carter and Bags were the exceptions.

    • @slick11o54
      @slick11o54 4 дні тому

      @Cdawg5666 mark Williams didnt have the skills that Malauch has... Khaman Maluach can shoot a perimeter shot, he's got ball handling skills like a guard so he can put it on the floor.... Frankly. If they aren't going to run some Hi/Lows or isolation in the low post. He'd be a waste of offensive talent... all I've seen 90% of the season thus far is he's a screener& roles or hands the ball off and dives to basket.. The way I see him he's just body 2 screen and no threat on offense when that's not the case.. He has talent. Use it !!! Lol. He can't be a rebounder much because Scheyers offense is made.to clear the lane wide open for drive and kicks. So if he rebounds it's because someone drives and he then crashes and has time to do that for a putback.. It would be nice to incorporate him more. Some inside outside action or pass down low to him and 2 guys cut to basket and it's just reads... that would keep the opponents honest on defense and can't cheat or help.. but we'll see...

    I told y’all before the season that the obsession with analytics is going to bite you guys in the rear end. Cooper should operate primarily driving to the basket and getting to his mid range. I don’t want to see any more of the off the dribble threes from him unless he is really feeling it stick to, four or five and shoot threes per game but everything else needs to be a one or two dribble pull up from mid range or getting all the way to the rim.

    If coach is going to play Kamann 11-12 minutes maybe he should try force feeding him the ball early!! Run something for him that's not a lob and on defense go a little zone to keep him below the free throw line and make teams shoot over our length

    Out schedule will pay off big time come March. I can already see a difference in the team’s approach to end of games situations. They are starting to look more comfortable in those situations. But its going to be pivotal for this team to help kahman become more consistent in the post. We are going to need him in March. Other than that, GO DUKE!!!!! 😈

    This was a big time win for Duke. They are showing not only can they win ugly, but they have the nerve and resilience to win under unfavorable circumstances (i.e., on the road, against an incredibly hot shooting team, Flagg in foul trouble with 10 minutes to go, etc.). Previous Duke teams would have easily folded, lose by 20. But this is the difference when you have a Championship caliber team. And the reason they are Championship worthy is because they have savvy veterans in addition to size. But here is the main takeaway: Duke is getting nearly everybody’s best game of the year. Seriously. It’s a major compliment, but it’s also that loud overhead warning with the flashing red lights we see in movies that Jon Scheyer isn’t fully taking seriously. How long is it going to take for us to be the team punching the other team in the mouth??? Why are we always getting punched first??? This was the first game Jon Scheyer addressed the horrible free throw shooting I vigilantly pointed out as a weakness during the exhibition games. Duke could be undefeated if we were a better FT shooting team. The FT’s in this game helped Duke not only mount a comeback, but slam the door on any late rally. It’s not a shocker that FT’s Made is the 4th Factor in Determining Basketball Winners. Josh Cox isn’t accurate on the defensive analysis in the second half. Was it better? Yes. Primarily with Sion James playing more aggressive. But you still had poor court awareness (related to switching) that allowed open 3PT shots. Everyone is to blame, but in this example just go to the 18th minute of the 2nd half when Flagg runs under the basket instead of guarding on the perimeter. The connectivity was off in this game. Louisville’s on the ball defense was also much more aggressive/smothering than our perimeter defense for much of the game. Many times we were setting up our offense farther away from the basket than they were. Given our size, this is unacceptable. We should always be imposing our will more than the other team’s. We have a freaking linebacker as a guard. But the point is Jon Scheyer needs to start bringing the fight (full force) rather than always finding himself in a fight. The last thing I want to mention is Kon Knueppel. Where is Kevin Connelly when you need him? Foster is finally taken out of the starting lineup, but I hope he continues to improve throughout the year. It’s nothing against Foster, you just can’t teach Sion James’ size into experience. Caleb Foster is a dime a dozen in the transfer portal, there aren’t many Sion James’s though. But Kon is struggling, choking really. I always said he needed to come off the bench. There is no reason he should be a cemented starter or 30+ minute player. Forward thinking is to build up Isaiah Evans. Remember I said Jon needs to play this guy higher in the rotation??? Over Foster, Gillis, and Harris? That guys get cold??? Auburn was my retribution. TOLD YOU. He’s got MJ and Kobe in him. His offensive efficiency should outweigh his defensive liabilities. But again, Jon needs to build Evans the way he built Mark Mitchell last season. Be more physically imposing, crash the boards, use your IQ and length to deter shots. And offensively, don’t make it all about you. If Jon can nurture this kid properly, he should be a starter by March. And his offensive potency can win you a championship given all the surrounding pieces. I’m not saying HE HAS TO be a starter. Kon has a lot of talent with a great skill set unique to his own. But right now the best thing that could happen to him is for him to sit the bench. He needs to find the edge he once had at the beginning of the season and during the summer. I mentioned he struggles against physicality and we are seeing that break into his confidence. So let him reflect on his performance, regain his edge and in turn allow Evans time to get comfortable and connected with his teammates in Jon Scheyer’s system. This is the best case scenario for March. Foster also needs to be more consistent and reliable. He offers a valuable skill set when he plays. He will improve and even thrive if he’s willing to accept his new role.

      I agree with most of what you said…. While I agree Slim absolutely needs to play more I feel like the heater off the bench should be his role… Kon has better size and play making ability and though his shot isn’t falling right now I truly believe it will start because it’s simply to pretty not to (Jared McCain)

    • @Lets_go_Duke
      @Lets_go_Duke 11 днів тому

      @@SamuelHuntJr I agree and disagree. First Kon isn’t McCain. Two totally different players. As I said earlier in the season, this game is about physicality. Kon is choking game by game because of the physicality and pressure. But unlike McCain who can get a jump shot off anywhere on the court due to his size (defenses have to brace themselves for his drives due to his size, so they essentially strap themselves in with their backs to the basket and to do this they have to sag off of him so they can give themselves a running jump to contest his shot). But Kon is not athletic. Defenses don’t have to sag off him to prepare for his drives or to contest a shot. This is why you see Kon post up a lot. Since this video had shoutouts to Ryan Young I will do the same here: He tries to use his body, foot mechanics, and PUMP Fakes to get off his shot. And he needs a lot of screens for his perimeter shooting. You are right, both certainly are great shooters. But so is Isaiah Evans who shot 43% in high school which is better than the 40% 3PT shooting Kon averaged. And what you saw in the Auburn game is what I’ve seen Isaiah do game after game after game in the biggest moments. HE DOES NOT CARE HOW CLOSE YOU ARE OR IF YOU ARE IN HIS FACE. Kon a great player, is simply not that kind of guy. Funny enough, both Kon and Isaiah hit game winning 3PT shots in the final minutes of their semi final state championship games while from behind, otherwise they would have lost those games. But anyway, point is Isaiah can get his shot off anywhere. Kon simply can’t. The ceiling is higher with Evans and he can have more Jared McCain performances than Kon can. This is why the time is now. Get him in the starting rotation more and coach him harder. It won’t come right away. But this team needs to have more chemistry and connectedness when he’s in the game - not every game is going to be 18PTS in limited minutes, but he can be the viable option when other options aren’t working. I’ve been saying this all year. Meanwhile, Kon can regain his confidence and we can do the same thing to Evans if he doesn’t rise up to the level that is required of him offensively and defensively given the new opportunity. Which is…. Take a seat on the bench and earn your minutes back onto the court. After all, there is a learning curve from HS to college. This is a new team. There aren’t but a couple guys that should be cemented as 30+ minutes per game guys. Everyone needs to continue to prove their value and why they should stay on the court. But Jon should be more forward thinking for March.

    Like I said before Evans can play if you didn’t believe in this game, why are you recruiting same thing about that boy named Harris? I believe Harris is one of the best shooters on Dukes basketball team why the coach don’t wanna play I don’t understand, but I do understand one thing for you high school five star basketball players four star basketball players don’t go to a team like Duke you won’t play. He wanna recruit you, but he won’t play you as Isaiah Evans as the boy name Harris as Jamie roach, he will move on from you in a year or two from now and get more five stars you better off going to a team where you gonna play basketball showcase your town hopefully you go to the next level that’s the whole planthat’s your goal. Don’t go to Duke.

    What do you guys think of Cooper? I’m mainly talking about he pushing off with his right arm a lot. He has done it a lot this year so far. Once we go into other people’s house it’s going to get called.
