    As a Raptors fan this is bitter sweet. When Kawhi was on our team I remember the Clippers front office stalking him the entire season. They eventually offered him the keys to the franchise allowing him to play the role of GM if he’d sign with them. Because of him they traded away their entire future, SGA and 5 first rounders. They laughed at us when they pried him away. But who’s laughing now?! The reality is that their window to a championship has pretty much closed. They will soon be christening a new arena with aging, injury-prone stars on their roster, and no future in the draft. And the team that they traded their future to, the OKC Thunder, now have the brightest future in the NBA thanks to Kawhi. The Clippers and their fans will be looking at the Thunder for years to come knowing what their team could have looked like. Who’s laughing now?! 😂

    Teams like the Suns and Clippers will continue to win some games when they put in the effort, which will be good enough to make it into the playoffs but to not likely go beyond the 1st round, perhaps get to a second round here and there if they draw the right matchup. That is about it in terms of what the expectations should realistically be. They certainly will not be cellar dwellers for the next few seasons but when this runs its course, that is then a strong possibility.

    I'm not a Clippers fan at all, but here's my take. The quote on the just because the same happened the past 4 years doesn't mean it'll happen next year...what's the definition of insanity? The Clippers can't stay healthy. How the Clippers decided to give Kawhi that ridiculously huge contract for per year salary is beyond me. You shouldn't be giving someone that amount when you can't trust that they'll be healthy when it matters the most. Doesn't matter how good they are in the regular season. If they do resign Paul George and/or James Harden, it cannot be for that high of an annual salary that they were earning. If they want to get that same amount of money, then they can go somewhere else. You can't bow down to the needs of superstars all the time.

Not saying he hasn’t been great but I think we all expected him to have a MVP, and a few more DPOY, and perhaps a scoring title. With the injuries and his age he will most likely never hit the peak that most people envisioned…

      Heck they finally broke through making a conference finals just to miss the playoffs the following year. I mean, they are the only team to blow a 3-1 lead twice which considering what happens to them I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they finally had that next breakthrough of making the Finals just to blow a 3-0 lead and then a 4th quarter 30 point lead (while leading by 40 at the half) in Game 7. That would be as much of a Clipper thing to happen to them as you could possibly get.

    • @hardwood_yt
      @hardwood_yt  11 днів тому

      basically, the Clippers decided to trade away every other year's 1st round pick until 2030. The NBA doesn't allow trading back to back years of 1st round picks, so on the odd years (2025, 2027, 2029) they did "pick swaps". Meaning the team they traded with has the rights to swap 1st's with them if they end up being terrible and having a higher pick.
