DA42 VMC Demonstration & Recoveries - MEP Training | ATC Audio

In this lesson we depart Coventry Airport and look at the effects on a multi-engine piston aircraft with velocity of minimum control (VMC) and how its effected by power settings from each engine along with how rolling 5 degrees to the live engine improves VMCA. It was a really interesting lesson after reading about this during my ATPL exams and to fly a VMC demonstration was great fun!

Great video as always! Just a quick one, as you're training with Aeros, are you doing the Aeros Fast track?
And also when you finish your training will you be issued an ATPL license or a Frozen ATPL License or a CPL?

You'll never be issued a Full ATPL without 1500 hours of which 500 needs to be on a Jet >19,5 tons MTOW. As he finished his ATPL theory he'll get a CPL(IR) with MEP -> "frozen ATPL"

Why when the airspeed dropped below red line (vmc) the aircraft remained still controllable?

Vmc is not a fixed speed. It depends on several factors. In this case, they "failed" the non-critical engine (the right engine). "Published" Vmc (the red line marked on the airspeed indicator) is based, among other things, on the critical engine failing. Since the non-critical engine "failed", this will give a Vmc lower than if the critical engine failed. Also their density altitude was above sea level and this would lower Vmc as well. In addition, their CG may have been forward of the CG used to determine published Vmc and their weight may have been more than that used to determine published Vmc, both of which would lower Vmc.
