I love how at the start he was just trying to read the music and lyrics because he couldn't quite recall the song. Then at about 2 minutes in you can tell he begins to remember. As he goes through the rest of the song he recalls how it was mean to be sang. And then using that inspiration he puts his own personal stamp on it. He clearly found a connection in his life that mirrored the lyrics and was like" I'm going to give this song the respect it deserves" and in true fashion joins Aaron Lewis as the only singer outside of Eddie Vedder to do this song right. This is a display of a true musician and artist folks.
And that's how's its done! Always a hair raiser holy shit greatest performance done! Of course he could do that song! He's the most greatest artist that can actually tell a story singing....
