He was never underrated by his fans just the A- holes that run the music industry whom if you don't do as your told do not get acknowledged by them They work them to death doing concerts until they drop dead according to some amazing artists that many people don't know. The only ones today that make it are mostly not that good and that's why.
2024 and we're still tallking about getting him into the R&R Hall of Fame. Outrageous! Johnny is among the greatest of our country-pop singer/composers and a master of covering great material. He deserves a double award.
That dump hasn't held any relevance for decades, and anyone amongst the greatness of people like Johnny Rivers who are not in there, hold an even bigger and brighter Crown of Glory..
Saw Johnny in the early 2000’s at Billy Bobs Texas. He puts on a good concert. Definitely should be in the Rock Hall Of Fame. He’s made many great songs and he’s got longevity too.
IN SPITE OF ALLLLL OF HIS SHORTCOMINGS - THE DUDE WAS WAS A FUCKING MONSTER, WHAT A RESUME. BACK THEN THERE WAS JB, & KM, FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE POND, AND JIM GORDON FROM AMERICA..! JUST LISTEN TO "D&TD"..!
this is great thank you for posting, yes Johnny is a great artist & this band is fantastic to. think Johnny Rivers has been underrated my whole life he is. God Bless him & this band 7-17-21 this music will never die.
This is excellent ! Why is Johnny Rivers not in the Rock and Roll hall of fame ! Compared to some of terrible artists who have been inducted what else does he have top do ?
The correct answer to your question is: Jann Wenner (who appears to be the one with the final vote on induction) seems to have a bias against 60's AM radio acts
He literally is too smart for the powers to be.. 1) Never had a "Band" WHY SHOULD HE when the best were one call away? 2) He bought his own label- A BIG NO NO 3) He in a one two punch signed the yet to be discovered Jimmy Webb, as he wrote smashes for River's just signed Marilyn McCoo and the 5th. 4) Glen Campbell (wow) said when hearing JR's verrsion of Jimmy Webb's "By the time I get to Phoenix" said- "Let me record that I will crush JR" HAHA- JR was snickering , BE MY GUEST!! One can be pretty certain he is one of the wealthiest in the industry , AND FOR HIS FAN'S SAKE he has stayed well/active.. BUT THIS MIGHT BE THE BIGGEST STRIKE VS HIM- OH MY!! JR did a Gospel record.. the Lord found JR!! As He did Bob Dylan.. who mosty, but all may not know received the highest accolade by Bob Dylan ?? ever given??
Jim Gordon..i listen to his Hogfat album..Jimmy Gordon and his Jazznpops Band..He rocks..Flying Dutchman is just one of several awesome late 60s pop meets horns..
This is the same band as who played at musikladen, in Germany. undeniably, this one is by far the best band ever who Johnny Rivers played with. when will the second part be posted? I really enjoyed seeing them.
Thanks for sharing this. I believe it may answer my decades old question about who played those tasty blues licks on the Johnny’s recording of Rockin Pneumonia…the great Dean Parks. He’s in the stellar session-players band here and the guitar stuff sounds very close to what we hear on the hit single.
Why are people so kind, just tell the truth, I love JR and have most of his stuff on vinyl, but this is so ORDINARY, compared to say...Van Morrison at Montreux
Basically just doing a pretty good job at covering good songs. Nothing special here - certainly not compared with the real talent that these musicians have.
Johnny had an ear for a hit, and his covers were far better than the originals he covered. Nothing special? Bob Dylan said that Johnny's cover of his "Positively 4th Street" was the best cover of any of his songs, "All Along the Watchtower" by Hendrix included. His covers charted higher than the original versions. Johnny's arrangements and his great voice sold records. Nothing special? Sorry, but Johnny was special.
The music legend of the 20th century. The man who cared little what people thought of him. I also believe that high sales don t necessarily equate to legendary status.. Freddie Mercury is famous for Queen, Macca is famous for the Beatles, Johnny Rivers is famous for Johnny Rivers. ''Secret Agent Man'', ''Do you wanna dance'', ''Hey Joe'', ''California Dreamin'', ''Baby I need your Lovin'', ''Poor side of town'', ''Summer Rain'', ''Slow dancin'', ''Romance'' ''City ways'', etc ... Iconic voice🎤🎸🌍
One of the most underrated and under appreciated musicians in rock. Saw him live two years ago - still rockin.
we totally missed him in uk, UNFORTUNATELY
Fact, JR great singer 🎤🎸

I saw him about five years ago and he could still sing.
RRHOF--A pure joke because many sixties' legends still skipped over
Johnny Rivers could sing anything and I would love it, thank you for sharing this beautiful video with us. I think he’s awesome.

Thank you for posting this. Hardly any footage of Jim Gordon exists.

I love seeing Jim Gordon ,the master indeed! ❤️❤️🤩
Great drummer, he murdered his mother though so that kinda takes the shine off him a bit.
@MrLeglamp he had a severe mental illness improperly diagnosed for years.
Happy 79th Birthday Johnny, such an amazing voice💖💖💖

Damn that’s a lot of mouths to feed on the road. You know when times got tough the first to go was the African percussionist lol.
