I did time at San Quentin. I watch a UA-cam channel, California Convictions and they just did a video on the sanitation conditions of the older parts of the prison that were built in 1910. That place was truly awful.
@Rj Hampton I did 17 years in California prisons. San Quentin wasn't the most violent, but was definitely the nastiest. In the video I just did on San Quentin on my channel I talked about how CDC admitted there were rats that lived in the sewer pipes, cockroaches in the food storage area living in the food, and an actual river of sewage behind the cells. Really disgusting! (Search California Convictions for the video if you're interested)
This list is so American-centric with 4 entries. Yeah I’m sure the prisons on the list are bad and some of the worst in the world but you mean to tell me the top 3 worst prisons on the entire planet are American owned, yeah right! What about all those prisons in Latin America and South Africa not to mention North Korea so on and so forth. A little bit of a lazy list imo

My older cousins used to talk about diyarbakir prison. It was very tough for them, they were all political prisoners and were sent there, the story's they told... Man it was like straight from a horror movie.
I'd say that ADX Florence is the only one of these that is necessary. Yes it is a truely horrible place to be, but it is clean and reserved for only the worst of the worst that can't be rehabilitated. The rest are such grotesque violations of human rights, the ones that are still in operation should be shut down. However this can't be done until new facilities for the existing prisoners are built, so unfortunately, taking the stance of "smash the system because small parts of it are evil" won't help anyone.
How is ADX Florence, and Guantanamo Bay one of the most dangerous if the inmates are by themselves for 23 hours a day? The term dangerous here is being used loosely.
Just because of the near constant solitary lock down. Takes a massive mental toll I would guess is why. Like the opposite of that prison where the prisoner's run it. You have the danger from other inmates, but you get some kind of freedom and socialization. Edit: forgot about Guantanamo. The danger there is the guards i think lol. Or the specialists that they would have come in to "talk" to you 😅🤣 since many of the people in there are of such a high level threat, having many connections, they will want to extract as much info from them as possible.
ADX IS has around 400 inmates out of which quarter of them are Mexican hitmen and drug lords and the criminals involved in the 9/11 and trade centre bombing. El chapo is there right now and he will die there because 10 life imprisonment and 40 years without parole will only be his end

Antanimoora prison in Madagascar definitely deserves to be on this list. Imagine living in an overcrowded sewer infested with bubonic plague rats. That’s pretty much antanimoora

Stuff needs to be done about the abuse and terror they're forced to endure in prison. The stuff that's allowed to happen to these prisoners is ridiculous and no one should have to go through that. Stuff like that is likely gonna make them worse off than they were.
Exactly my thoughts. Prison should be used to teach people a lesson so that they could return to society improved as a human being so that they can become part of society again. If thats to dangerous, then keep them locked up and and put them to work to be part of society in that way. Criminal, murderer, or rapist, they are still people, and have the right to be treated as such.

I think it’s a fine line, prison shouldn’t be a picnic and should serve as a real motivator to not commit crimes. A much larger discussion is what crimes truly constitute a prison sentence? A lot of minor drug offenders are in prison, and for what?
Me and a friend got locked up for a couple of days in a city jail in Metro Manila. The cell was about 5 by 6 meters and there were about 70 or 80 people inside. They literally slept side by side. There was one toilet and it was filled to the brim with feces (also the bathroom floor). It was around 40 degrees hot most of the time. The jail has a budget for detainees' meals but you're lucky to get one meal a day (usually a cup of rice and a rotting vegetable dish); you need someone to bring you food. Prisoners with money share food and are usually popular and 'privileged', just like in the outside. There are some gang violence from time to time (usually personal conflicts or drug trade inside) but not as often probably as the American prisons. The reason why is that the jail guards keep the prisoners in line. If they piss off the guards one way or another (refuse to do something they want you to do, usually illegal as well), they'll get shot dead (happened a lot). The next morning, the news will say that prisoners "tried to take the guns away" from the guards, but actually, they were executed. I don't think there has been a cop/guard convicted for that yet. That has always been the system.

you missed Lecumberri prison "The black castle" in Mexico, it was infamous for housing revolutionaries and political prisoners going all the way back to the Mexican revolution and as recently as the student protests in the 60´s and 70´s, torture, mass killings and extraoficial executions where common place, when people disappeared, most likely they where sent there
Sofia Central in Bulgaria is horrendous, there's also that one in Pennsylvania that was home to cruel experiments carried out by a dermatologist & one in Bolivia also run by inmates. EDIT: Forgot about Abu Ghirab, I'm shocked it wasn't there.

@@MrWolfchamp-xi3cu they even made an experiment about how the prison system in America is broken and messed up (the infamous “Stanford prison experiment”, a.k.a. the “Lucifer Effect”), and you know things are that bad when an experiment didn’t even lasted longer because of how unethical it is.

Jeez! The living conditions on some of these prisons is despicable! I know they're criminals and all and most of them did horrible things like rape, murder, etc., but they're also human beings! Let's not stoop to some of their levels ..this is just so sad some of these prisons actually let these people live like this along with torture & starvation. They should be trying to reform these prisoners, not make them even more crazy. No wonder why some of these prisoners go crazy/commit suicide 🙏🏼💯

After this past year of being inside so much,My apartment is starting to look and feel like a combination of all 10 prisons.
