Gujara camel vs (any) battle elephant is one of those brutal unit matchups where the counter unit is significantly better and significantly faster than the unit it counters. We did the testing combinations on an Ornlu stream a while back and Gujarati camel beat all elephants in post imp. iirc Malay are the best cost efficiently but still lost (although are significantly faster and cheaper to get to FU Malay elephants than FU Gujara camel in a real game). No other camel managed to beat post imp Battle elephants cost efficiently. Ranking and relative performance depended somewhat on exactly which elephants are fighting which exactly which elite camel variety though generally Saracen and Imp camel are about even and 2nd best, Malians behind that, and byzantines did worst of all camel bonus civs, though better than generic. (and even the current Royal Heirs couldn't help Ethiopian camels) Takeaway headline is camels lose to elephants unless they're Gujarati camel.
I think the Gurjaras' eco bonus is better than the Vietnamese'. He can have elite elephants overwhelm your base, but you don't have enough camels, which is weird. Maybe uu is wrong choice.
Gurjaras seems wonky tbh, incredibly expensive for units that have quite a lot of counters. Your approach of making a wide base without walls backfires immensely with that problem. It looks like Gurjaras are plenty strong in the lategame but they need a stable base to work from, Barles' turtle strat worked well in his favor since he could never get raided without a lot of effort, giving his elephants time to be annoying. If you had gotten a lethal dose of camels and chakram you probably would have won, but until that time Vietnamese have a lot of advantages over Gurjaras.
