    Who is Ron Spomer
    For 44 years I’ve had the good fortune to photograph and write about my passion - the outdoor life. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me - from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa’s cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I’ve photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I've seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I’ve tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that’s the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world.

    It's too bad that the .22 Win Mag wasn't designed to chamber .22 lr/l/s. That would be an EXTREMELY versatile chambering in a lever-gun. Great for coyotes, even deer up close, on down to squirrel.

      Its because doing that would make 22 wmr significantly worse, the reason the 22wmr has a larger case diameter is it doesn't use a heeled bullet like 22lr so it has better designed bullets with real jackets and better BCs

      Ok, so I had to listen to this clip a few times and from what I gather you CAN shoot the 22lr out of a 22wm rifle though you CANNOT shoot a 22wm out of a 22lr rifle. Though personally I would never shoot anything out of a firearm that it was not designed/intended to shoot.

      I have shot both 22 longs and long rifles through a Winchester 9422 with no problems. The only hitch is the lead bullet needs a little lever jiggle to chamber the shorter round. Be sure to run a round or two of mags at the end if the day. Not recommended but in a pinch (which I was in), mine worked ok. I wouldn't try it in a pistol.

      A bad idea. Purely for the fact that the 22wmr projectile is .224 in diameter and the .22lr is smaller. You would be shooting a smaller diameter projectile through the bore of the magnum. This can damage your barrel and it will end up bulging the barrel.
      I lent a win 9422M to a friend and he shot 22lr through it and it bulged the barrel. End result I had to get it rebarreled.
      Don't do it.

      @@hughroughley3363Wow, I didn't know this could happen. I know firing a shotgun with snow partly clogging the barrel can expand the barrel, (12 year old me found this out). l Didn't know firing a .224 bullet in a more powerful caliber .224 diameter barrel would cause expansion. Ruger and other companies make interchangeable cylinders for revolvers. Ruger Single Six is one such revolver I have owned. Shot .22 lr change cylinder and shot 22 Winchester Mag cartridges. Unheard of these days but then it was ok I guess cause I did it. It had a 7 shot clip, and I loved that rifle. Took down hundreds of vermin with that thing. • @fuuuuuwahhhh5276
      @fuuuuuwahhhh5276 9 місяців тому +1

      @@ArchiveAmerica it blew up in such a way that the shell cracked and sent pressure backwards which scrapped a few internal parts of the revolver. It broke the little piece of metal that moves the cylinder when you pull the hammer back. It never damaged the cylinder itself. As I said the cylinder was rated for magnum, but since a .22 is slightly different than the magnum and it has a bit of space when you put that different cartridge in it will mess your gun up if the pressure is released the right way. Just like you I've shot thousands of rounds through these old guns, but when it happens it still happens like a freak accident. The mini revolver I had was machined so tight I can't get it apart due to internal parts expanding and moving in just the right directions. So I'll be sending it back to get it fixed or they will send me another thankfully. Also it can happen if you get a shell with too much powder in it. I've even got underpowered .22 rounds that led to a squib so I would hammer it out with a cleaning rod. Anything can happen with these guns.

      @@TeSolycMandalor, I reload my 38spl ammunition. After 24 reloads on the same brass, the cartridge split in the cylinder. It jammed so tight that I had to push it out with a stick then I continued shooting the rest of the 50 round box of ammo. I think the 22lr is more dangerous. When the case splits it might explode like an atomic bomb. Sending shrapnel for hundreds of miles and injuring thousands of people.

    If you do put .22 LR in a .22 mag you better use eye protection. You will get gasses blowing back from around the bolt face , because the case doesn't seal the chamber and the bullet jumps long distance to the lands and grooves. You'll get hot gasses in your face and eyes. Amendment ; Iwas speaking from first hand experience. 40 years ago I was a poacher. I used the .22 mag a lot in that work. And my favorite trick was cap a gator using a .22 long rifle In my .22 mag which made it sub sonic. I've shot a lot of hogs with it as well. Before you call me a liar again talk to the ballistic scientist here Mr Spomer. That is exactly scientifically what happens to the .22 LR when you fire it in a .22 mag. There will be a day when you get a face full of gasses, especially your eight eye unless you're shooting a left handed gun. I've got a marlin model 783 I've put 5000 rounds thru and 200 of those at least were .22 long rifle. Watch his video again and listen this time. Cases split, not always but they do. When the bullet makes the jump to the lands then pressure builds and the case may split but before this is completed some of the gasses can blow back past the bolt face in the breach and flow around the bolt. I'll bet your no older than 25 and believe you know everything. When I was younger I knew I didn't know everything and didn't challenge the knowledge of others unless I could prove it scientifically. That marlin I have is 1972 issue and I'll bet it's a great deal older than you. I quit poaching because of what I saw others doing. I hunted for meat only. I never hunted trophies. But I knew of others that cut the head and cape off of a deer and waste the rest. Think of me what you want . But you know nothing truly about me. I'm not a bad man but I have vastly more experience. I'm sure of that.

    Ive shot lr out of a wmr chambered pistol before, im not going to advise that you should, but in a pinch itll work. I don't think its inherently dangerous to the shooter, but if a case splits youll need pliers or a rod to poke the stuck case out. A little more hacky than a lot of people are willing to do.

    The rifling in the barrel of a gun actually digs into the bullet a little, so obviously if your casing is too long, you will push it into the barrel and the rifling will do the same thing to it as well. On a necked cartridge it will just not chamber, but on a cartridge where the diameter of the casing is close to the diameter of the bullet, it is possible to force the round into the chamber.

    He said you could fire long rifle in it and had done so. The problem was the shorter LR shell would leave residue to a point where when you did go back and started using mags again you couldn't because the buildup prevented the longer mag shell from going all the way into the chamber.🤔
