John’s wife, Yoko Ono, was an Avant Gard artist from Japan when he first met her. Avant Gard: “new and unusual or experimental ideas, especially in the arts, or the people introducing them”. Fans who loved John didn’t understand Yoko and why John would fall in love with someone so “different”. They couldn’t get past her “quirky” passion, but John LOVED it, and encouraged it. Remember the hotel bedrroom “Sleep-In” against the war in Vietnam in front of the global media surrounding their bed? Performance art for publicity against the war! BRILLIANT! Or doing an interview surrounded by global media under a bed sheet? BRILLIANT again! Many fans blame Yoko for the breakup of the Beatles, their beloved group. The most important thing is that John loved her. Something many fans will never understand or get over. John loved Yoko - Yoko loved John. That’s all that matters.
Ironically, given Paul was involved with the avant-garde London set, I read that before meeting Yoko, John Lennon said "Avant-garde is French for bullshit".

"Instant Karma!" (also titled "Instant Karma! (We All Shine On)") is a song by English rock musician John Lennon, released as a single on Apple Records in February 1970. The lyric focuses on a concept in which the causality of one's actions is immediate rather than borne out over a lifetime. The single was credited to "Lennon/Ono with the Plastic Ono Band", apart from in the US, where the credit was "John Ono Lennon". The song reached the top five in the British and American singles charts, competing with the Beatles' "Let It Be" in the US, where it became the first solo single by a member of the band to sell a million copies.

@@joemasse4568 Oh, they knew who he was well beforehand. He didn't even audition. He'd jammed with them before. They pleaded with him to join-especially since they had a gig coming up!
Well, as John said later in his life -- the lyrics to 'Imagine' "are basically the communist manifesto". I wonder what he'd think of the controllers using one of his songs as their anthem. (To be fair to John though a lot of it came from Yoko's 'Grapefruit' book (1964).)
LOVE this song!!! In answer to your question about Yoko's rather odd appearance...she was an artist (altho not quite as popular as most) who was a very quiet yet driving force behind John's decision to leave the Beatles and forge his own path. The blindfold she wore represented the blindness of justice and our refusal to see what was going on. Her crocheting was to symbolize that thru our own work we can "stitch together" a world where love ruled and equality was for all. It wasn't finished because the social changes weren't. John was heard, Yoko was seen. It was a true love affair and a great demo of how opposites really do attract. A lot of people still blame her for the break up of the Beatles. I saw it as a love story even tho my heart broke when my Dad told me the news of their end.
When the Beatles broke up The entire world was soooooo sad.....I honestly think we went into mourning.....it was literally "The Death of The Beatles" and we knew we would not get back that sound. Then John Lennon came out with his first solo song and was an instant hit. It was different but very profound. Very hard hitting. I was very happy!!! Thanks for answering my request. I think you are gonna like it!!!
"I knitted during instant Karma, blindfolded by a sanity pad ,to let people know the position of women in the world " Yoko Ono ,Twitter 2017. Can you please do #9 Dream next ?! 🌸
OK Yoko was a performance artist she was from Japan she was a concert pianist she was there during the atomic bombing she came to United States and became a performance artist John Lennon could’ve had any woman in the entire world and he chose Yoko Ono
Now THIS is keeping great music alive!!! Others here have and will suggest great Lennon songs: "Watching the Wheels", "Dream #9", "Jealous Guy", "Mind Games" and on and on. But I call your attention (whether for reaction or personal enjoyment) to John Lennon's album called "Rock and Roll', which was all covers of 1950's songs he loved (including Chuck Berry's "You Can't Catch Me", the lyrics of which the Beatles lifted for "Come Together".) I recommend his covers of Fats Domino's "Ain't that a Shame" and Bobby Freeman's "Do You Want to Dance". They'll make us all smile!
This is one of my favorite John songs. They only did ten takes and released it ten days after recording. It wasn't meant to be part of an album. John was still technically with the Beatles at this point. John just had a good song and wanted to put it out, which is what all good stand-alone singles should be. And if I'm not mistaken, George is also on this. :)
this is a brilliant song that only Lennon can do with his gruff vocals - i've heard so many covers of this song that sound like light poppy songs because of the chord structure but Lennon as he often does, takes it to another (Lennon) level that is sublime...
Let us take a moment and remember that on December 8, 1980, almost 40 years ago... this man singing peace and love was shot down on his front door in New York by a lunatic. I can't believe this was karma, though. ✌
John's wife, Yoko Ono, was a performance artist. She would do very curious and deliberate performance displays that provoked people to respond and react. John loved that about her. She was bold enough to display her public art that got people talking. They were made for each other.
Yes! Sean Lennon has made a lot of great music (his album Friendly Fire is particularly great). I think sometimes he gets overlooked just because of who his father is. Lennon Claypool Delirium definitely has a 60's psychedelic influence, but I hear less Beatles and more early Pink Floyd and King Crimson (both of which they cover). Good stuff.
I've heard Sean Lennon cover a few Beatles tunes, including This Boy and Julia (the latter is a song about his grandmother). It's amazing how much he sounds like his father when he sings.
I saw The Plastic Ono Band at Madison Square Garden many years ago. I went to see John and some other acts that I cannot remember. She ruined the night for me. I left with an enormous headache and I cannot remember anything else from the show. Just her screeching. It’s a shame since that was the only time I saw John Lennon live.
The guy in the suit playing the trampoline was the Beatles' roadie and do-everything man, Mal Evans. He still worked for them even when the Beatles broke up. Sadly, he was shot by the LAPD when visiting California and writing a book about the Beatles.
The song employs a similar chord structure to that of "Three Blind Mice" and "Some Other Guy", and Lennon had used the same progression in the Beatles' 1967 single "All You Need Is Love". Later in 1970, he would adopt the melody of "Three Blind Mice", an English nursery rhyme, for his song "My Mummy's Dead". In their book The Words and Music of John Lennon, Ben Urish and Kenneth Bielen write that in the first verse of "Instant Karma!", Lennon employs sarcasm as he urges the listener to "Get yourself together / Pretty soon you're gonna be dead" and emphasizes "It's up to you - yeah, you!" Norman comments on the "hippie catchphrase of the moment" contained in this instruction to "Get yourself together", and he says that the warning of imminent death is "obviously not to be taken literally". Author Mark Hertsgaard cites the lines "Why in the world are we here / Surely not to live in pain and fear?" as a further example of Lennon "asking what purpose his life on earth was to serve", after his 1966 composition "Strawberry Fields Forever". According to Urish and Bielen, "Instant Karma!" conveys the need to recognize and act upon a shared responsibility for the wellbeing of humankind; the karmic rewards of this mindset are available to all, as implied in Lennon's exhortation to "Come and get your share". The same authors pair the song with Lennon and Ono's "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" single from 1971, in terms of how the singer "both prods and challenges listeners before providing reassurance".
"Is She gonna show what she made?" Jamel, that cracked me up! lolololol Not sure she can see herself with that Kotex wrapped over her eyes! Even though she's crocheting, I sort of get a Madame DeFarge vibe here.
Yoko looks like a blindfolded vietnamese pow. War was raging at this time and John & Yoko had launched their campaign for peace. Soon to come was their song Happy Xmas (Was is Over). A message they put on billboards world wide. Dec. 8th is approaching...the 40th anniversary of his murder.

Yoko was a performance artist sometimes she made "artful" noise (see Revolution #9) and sometimes she knitted while wearing a blindfold. I prefer this one.
"Gimme some truth" would be a great one to react to of John's. A strong message which is just as relevant today as it ever was. "Working class hero" is another powerful song of his. And please forgive us all for sending so many requests and suggestions - we're trying to cram half a century of great music into you so that you can enjoy it all!
Your reaction to Yoko is priceless. That’s the reaction many people have to Yoko. I appreciate her point of view but if you want to see an instance where her point of view doesn’t match with the scene at hand then be sure to check out John and Yoko performing with Chuck Berry.
It's always a pleasure to see you react the way you do to all these classics. It's hard to believe that we are the same age and I kow almost all these songs while you just discover them now, but I guess this really shows what a difference the way we grow up makes, as I have an older brother who was always into rock and metal music and from whom I got to learn a lot about music. I love that you always not share just share your emotions and wether you liked the song or not, but also your take away from and interpretation of the song you just listened to. It's the reason why your reactions are one of the few I actually watch and enjoy, because not many of the others do that and just give a short verdict. Considering Lennon, it's hilarious to see the whole comment section tip-toeing arout that one very controversialy titled song by Lennon about women's position in the world... Yes, the title is crass, but I would really be interested in your reaction to and your take on the whole song.

"Instant Karma!" was conceived, written, recorded and released within a period of ten days, making it one of the fastest-released songs in pop music history. The recording was produced by Phil Spector, marking a comeback for the American producer after his self-imposed retirement in 1966, and leading to him being offered the producer's role on the Beatles' Let It Be album. Recorded at London's Abbey Road Studios, "Instant Karma!" employs Spector's signature Wall of Sound technique and features contributions from George Harrison, Klaus Voormann, Alan White and Billy Preston. The B-side was "Who Has Seen the Wind?", a song composed and performed by Yoko Ono. When released in the US, the single was given a minor remix by Spector.
Yoko's knitting is miced up. Side note: The Beatles' "Hey Jude" was written by Paul sung to Julien Lennon (Jude), John's son from his first marriage, to embrace Yoko Ono. . Side, side note: John met Yoko at an art exhibit and was intrigued by one item. You climb a ladder, and read a word, via a magnifying glass, written on the ceiling. The word was "Yes." Had it been "No" we may never have heard of her.

Such a great song and reaction. John looms so large in my life, my favourite artist. My Mum knew John at Liverpool Art School and watched the very early Beatles play at the Cavern Club almost every day. Still find it so amazing to have a tiny link to this amazing person. So happy to see his music shared with the world! 💙
John Lennon discovered Alan White (drummer) playing in a local bar and was very impressed....so he called him up to join the Plastic Ono Band for a gig in Toronto.. a gig that was a day later! Alan then played with John on the 1971 Imagine album before joining Yes and finding big fame.
Yoko is knitting, with a blindfold on. Perhaps she is symbolizing the people who are blind to the peace movement, and unaware of the karma coming at them
If you haven't done John Lennon's "Mother" yet , you might want to check it out. Strong emotional song. Love your reactions, they've become a nightly ritual for me. Peace & Love Brother
Yoko always was a performance artist. Her ideas were way out there. But that's her art, her thinking, her persona and that's who John loved. She loved John as much as he loved her. This song was another Lennon masterpiece.

This is actually classic John and Yoko messaging. They were different together, for sure.

"Instant Karma," "Give Peace a Chance," "Imagine." Even "Revolution." The world needs more John Lennon right now.
Power To The People
Wonder what John would think of where we are now?
Well, as John said later in his life -- the lyrics to 'Imagine' "are basically the communist manifesto". I wonder what he'd think of the controllers using one of his songs as their anthem. (To be fair to John though a lot of it came from Yoko's 'Grapefruit' book (1964).)
@@briangregory6303 You already know the answer to that.
The world needs more John Lennon MUSIC right now. Let us not forget he was no saint himself.
one of my fave Lennon songs! ♥ Love the lyrics and echoey drums
Eye bandage lady is Yoko Ono, John's wife. "Artist" and Beatles-breakup-scapegoat.
Best, and most truthful, reply ever.
Yoko didn't break up the Beatles, but she may have accelerated it.
At her best, sitting there silently.
Yeah I don’t consider her an artist lol. I do consider her a screaming goat with the voice of a dying donkey.
He was the ultra famous, tolerant catalyst for her "art" and she knew how to make his moments about her. She's...whatever.
"I knitted during instant Karma, blindfolded by a sanity pad ,to let people know the position of women in the world " Yoko Ono ,Twitter 2017.
Can you please do #9 Dream next ?! 🌸
WOW THAT'S DEEP
OK Yoko was a performance artist she was from Japan she was a concert pianist she was there during the atomic bombing she came to United States and became a performance artist John Lennon could’ve had any woman in the entire world and he chose Yoko Ono
The Biggest loss ever !!! A Genius..RIP John lennon!! 💔❤❤🎼🎶🎵🙏✌
Great song and reaction. Gimme Some Truth is worth listening to too.
Absolutely not
Check out "Jealous Guy" by John Lennon. My favorite Lennon song.
A good documentary to watch on the John Lennon is "The U.S. vs. John Lennon" when Nixon tried to kick Lennon out of the US.
John's wife, Yoko Ono, was a performance artist. She would do very curious and deliberate performance displays that provoked people to respond and react. John loved that about her. She was bold enough to display her public art that got people talking. They were made for each other.
Thanks for being a good human. Humble, kind, joyful, peaceful and loving. Proud to be subscribed to you.
Sean Lennon & Les Claypool's "Lennon - Claypool Delirium" is AMAZING. It's like a bastard child of The Beetles and Primus!
Sean Lennon is very underrated.
Having heard Yoko “sing” live at an Amnesty International concert, consider yourself lucky she was silently knitting. 😳
Lol, we went to the Giants Stadium show. Yoko was not well received.

Nightmare evil
That was what Yoko Ono called Art. She made you talk about her, right? I prefer John's art.
Two different kind of artists
They inspired one another. He feel in love with her work before he met her.
Her work is in some of the finest art museums
She is a performance artist, Contemporary artist, Conceptual artist. cerebral level work. Not performaning artist like John Lennon.
She was a 'conceptual artist'. Conceptual means no talent.
"Is She gonna show what she made?" Jamel, that cracked me up! lolololol Not sure she can see herself with that Kotex wrapped over her eyes! Even though she's crocheting, I sort of get a Madame DeFarge vibe here.

Love this song!
You noticed how avant garde Yoko Ono can be,🙂 nice one.
Great reaction to a great song by a great artist.👍
On Bass guitar Klaus Voormann, he paint the Cover art of Beatles Revolver. For me best album cover ever.
"We all shine on". It's well known this song influenced Stephen King when he was coming up with the story that became "The Shining"
Absolutely get your take on karma. It's so much worse when your bad karma is visited on someone you love.
That's Yoko, and she's into performance art. I love this song!
At least she wasn't "singing".
Her best performance ever!!!

Absolutely, WORKING CLASS HERO!! I requested it a few times as I’m sure others have too.
Alan White on drums, killing it. Don't want it to end, want more of his percusion!!!!
I absolutely love John Lennon, all of his songs are fantastic. The Beatles are my thing
Yoko was a performance artist sometimes she made "artful" noise (see Revolution #9) and sometimes she knitted while wearing a blindfold. I prefer this one.
Love this song. Very nostalgic,..strangely takes me back to early ‘90s..first NikeAir Huarache commercial.
Another fine Lennon song is "Give Peace a Chance" - perfect for the holidays!
Vietnam was a hot topic for years. Americans saw photos of North Vietnamese prisoners of war having their brains blown out with just such a blindfold. Oh, Yoko.
Don't make things up. No such photo like that exists.

The lady with the Kotex wrapped around her eyes is Yoko Ono, John's wife.
She definitely looks better with that kotex on her face🧐
Yoko's knitting is miced up.
Side note: The Beatles' "Hey Jude" was written by Paul sung to Julien Lennon (Jude), John's son from his first marriage, to embrace Yoko Ono. .
Side, side note: John met Yoko at an art exhibit and was intrigued by one item. You climb a ladder, and read a word, via a magnifying glass, written on the ceiling. The word was "Yes." Had it been "No" we may never have heard of her.
John was a bisexual Marxist/ Communist who sold his soul to Satan. Naturally he was attracted to Ono. A no talent piece of DooDoo. Love you doodoo. 🤗

The woman knitting while blindfolded is John Lennon's wife Yoko Ono.. She is a performance artist. Also, she broke up the Beatles..lol
She THINKS she's an artist.
Klaus Voormann, the bass player, also drew the album cover for the Beatles Revolver, which is one of the coolest album covers ever!

Yoko always was a performance artist. Her ideas were way out there. But that's her art, her thinking, her persona and that's who John loved. She loved John as much as he loved her. This song was another Lennon masterpiece.
Mother is powerful. That screaming for her!!
