To answer the 10 million 'Redcat Machete' comments. I'm 99.9% Sure that PD Racing are the OEM Manufacturer, so it's the opposite to what you are saying... the Redcat is the same as this ;) PD also make some of the Arrma Cars I think (not got anything official to confirm though)
Probably just the reason people are saying it the way they are is we saw the machete first, idc who makes it or rebrands it, it looks friggin sweet and seem to perform really well with a little tunin
Machete has been out for almost a year. This is exact to it or it to the Machete either way its the same and its childish to make a big deal about it. Does it really matter where it started or who started it as long as it's a great RC? Whoever manufactured the first one made a copy and they are both very good 🙂 I have a wild idea with suspension for my Machete and will make it even better 😉
It's a cool looking truck,.Some bashers will definitely take it out and try to bend the chassis. As someone mentioned it appears to be identical to the 6S Redcat Machete. It sells for $500 and this is the last day for Redcat's 20% off sale in the U.S. It's very tempting. Thanks of the review.
Yep Redcat Machete, Redcat had to redesign & supply new top A-arms as they failed. Some of the Redcat versions arms were actually broken in transit on cars in the box from shipping. Hopefully these Magnitron arms dont suffer this same problem, but they do look like the old arms that failed on the Redcat. The new modded arms that were good were a different looking arm. The arms that failed were where the red anodised aluminum part of the arm attatched to the plastic ends, there is a threaded in stud at each end of the red anodised part that also threaded into the plastic parts. They plastic ends failed due to the threaded studs didnt go into the plastic ends of the arms enough.
I bought a machete 6s a month ago and it arrived in the box with one of the front shock ends ripped out... not sure how that was managed in the box?? anyways.. they provide 4x new shock ends and the new arms which I swapped in immediately. The wheels do have a lot of wobble in them but so far that hasn't caused an issue... I upgraded the servo with a fast 55kb BETU and it does drive very nice. The center diff does need like 1mil though.. and I put 60wt in all of the shocks which did help the bottoming out a little..
The original batches had the shock ends overtightened at the factory, which stripped the threads in the plastic. Hence why some shock ends had pulled out in the box. Also with the early trucks the centre drive shafts could twist, especially when 1 million fluid was added to the centre diff. Redcat made new drive shafts with a thicker wall to the shaft, they sent these out for free at the time along with the new upgraded A-arms & shock ends.@@adambgunn
@@gillian9178 Well that explains a lot. It only happened to one shock and I put 60wt in all of them so the others seem to be fine when I pulled them for that. Yes I got the new drive shafts too.. I was planning on adding 1mil to the center so I will be sure to add the new shaft in while I am performing that maintenance. Thanks for that tip! I did upgrade the servo to a 55kg BETU 0.11sec/60° at 6V and I am thinking about upgrading the ESC to a max8 (it should have shipped with a max8 imo)... all that aside I love the truck.. I wish there were options to upgrade the c-hubs/carriers to alum... there's a lot of wobble in the wheels but it doesn't seem to affect the steering. Truck is very nimble and fast.
I have the Redcat machete 6s version. The 4s version is only $399! Mine had a weak upper arm that broke on the first run. Redcat fixed the issue and sent me the part to replace the defective one. Now it's a fun 1/6 scale truggy to play around with that cost me peanuts. lol. I Love your reviews and dry humor, Phil. Don't ever change. You're a gift in this industry.
That is a Redcat Machette, and is cheaper if you buy it as one. 4s version is $399, and the 6s is $499. Sorry Tomley, but they are over charging for this truck. It is a good one though.
This looks like Redcat's international offering of the Machete. Beautiful machine! Just hope they fix the metal-joint A-arm problems the early models suffered. Great vid Phil!
That looks pretty awesome. A 6s vehicle for $499? That’s pretty competitive pricing. I can’t say I’ve seen any of the top brands selling any of their 6s models for that price. Great video, Phil. 😎

Thanks Michael... I get way more satisfaction out of a good 'transition' on a jump than just sending it up in the air and slamming it into the ground :)
If the shock valves have 4 holes use a soldering iron to melt 2 of the holes closed and the shocks will work right. Also the center diff being looser and soft shocks make it better in dirt. It will wheelie if you tighten up the center diff.
Good test Phil. That cold weather should test the plastic suspension arms and show up any weakness/breakages. Survive the winter use, then the summer should be childs play ( ie, all of us).
You are bang on with the suspension being the weak part - well only the springs&dampers. Stronger springs and matching dampers would be better I guess - especially at the front, which sits at least 2-3cm too low - at least for jumps like on the BMX track. It may be ok for flat surfaces / dirt tracks with small jumps.
You could fix the suspension issues with pistons that have less or smaller holes in the shocks and using stiffer springs, perhaps changing the shocks altogether, the cheaper cars often come with cheaper components which show their weakness pretty quickly.
Neat lookin' rig, but, for 6s I think I will stick to my o.g. kaiju. It's very squirrely, but, stock setup gets me 55mph on a dirt road, so I'm loving it. Plus I only paid 400 for that guy... I was going to suggest stiffening up the springs a bit by screwing down the adjusters on the shocks, but it looks like they are already all the way down. Cool truck though.
