Sprayed and Plowed the Field - Starting To Come Together

- Bought a 40 gallon tank sprayer and a middle buster potato plow, single bottom plow. Killed all the switchgrass and got the field plowed. It’s really starting to look better
Just came across your video. I have a spray rig like that but need to convert for tractor use. I had it the back of my ATV but got rid of it. I ordered the same plow a few days ago. I’d only use the box blade if necessary. After plowing I’d mount a three point rototiller and go twice in both directions. The rake won’t be of much use unless you want to make some berms like a hiller. I did that last year. Might go over it with a disc before rototilling. I do that but I want to go deeper than my disc or rototiller can go. The tiller just smooths it all out. Maybe then set your plow to just make a groove for planting. I will be trying that this year
For its size that little tractor is impressive. Great idea with the corn..........make some extra cash with the land that’s available and it would also provide a bit of a sound buffer from the road although your house is far enough away. I planted sweet corn in my garden this year and just as it ripened the raccoons invaded and ate pretty much all of it until I set up the live traps. Have a great remainder of your weekend.
Next time wear a respirator face mask when you spray with that commercial round-up. My brother had an Angus beef cattle operation and those weed eradicators have some carcinogenic properties. He has a science background (BS Chemistry,MS Environmental Science) so I trust his advice.

Hey Adam that field looks great. If you have the time/money I would start with the landscape rake the remove the majority of the switchgrass rootballs, then go to the box blade to level it up if necessary and finally go to a power aerator like you said to leave a beautiful finish. Plant the field full of wild flowes. Different sites can buy seed in bulk. Prenatal mix . Will grow year after year and little maintenance for you. Do a bundle deal flowers and firewood.
Looks good, kioti did a nice job. Me, I would smooth it out to mow but that's me. If you have the fortitude, plant that corn. That's what's nice about owning your own land, do what you want.
I’m thinking the corn may be too much work. I’ll probably just go with the lawn idea. There’s no replacement for curb appeal

Heath Worsley that’s a very good point. I plan on dying on this property. Hopefully in another 70 years but none the less I have no intentions of selling. But I would still like to be proud of how the house looks when I pull in the driveway everyday
Hometown Acres if you grow that corn, it’ll have appeal to you!!! Make a field of sunflowers (at least a section) and the Mrs will be appealed to. Veggies good (including corn) but no matter what you grow....deer like it all!!! Your section of PA has some pretty big deer!
That sprayer made your job much easier! Now....what to do with the space. Many good answers in the comments. Maybe an orchard?
A field of native grasses/wildflowers or sunflowers would be pretty neat!
Go for the corn so next year on Halloween you could make a corn maze for all the kids in the aria, should be fun.
Corn looks just as nice as lawn and at least you can sell it!
I’d go for pumpkins and gourds. They sell really well. Corn is a lot of work plus a lot of predators.
Do something not for human consumption, since you sprayed a bunch of nasty chemicals on that ground.
Did you try burning it off before going this route?
Hate to suggest spending more money but a good investment would be a set of 3 point hitch disks. run it with the disks spread wide open so it cuts good. it may take 5 passes over the entire field. that should be enough to not only level out your mounds but also cut into the sod that was missed between rows. Then, run it again with it set so disks are almost straight. that will make it so the disks don't take as much of a bite and smooth it out even further. I have used disks by themselves before to avoid plowing altogether. you have to make quite a few passes to keep cutting the soil and each new pass digs a little deeper. I get by with that if I am just reseeding a field for a food plot or planting in grass or hay. that is not for a yard.. I am talking about a farm field or something. yard work has to be finer than that. but you have that yard rake for fine work after disking is done. My opinion as a hobby farmer that has done it before. I am south of you, also in Western Pa. so, same type of soil and terrain.
I use Roundup and 2,4-D as needed it is very effective weed control. I could tell you a lot about corn growing if you are serious it's a high feeding crop needs a lot of fertilizer and water not to mention cultivation. If you want it before labor day you might have to use a remay cloth. There are lots of nice hybrids corns that will grow two beautiful cobs but it is a lot of work. Not a plant and pick crop
That plow does a pretty good job. What are the metal pipes in the field I was worried you would hit a gas line and no more HT Acres. Take care brother

I’d plant corn and maybe some other veggies, nothing better than fresh veggies. Plant the rows wide enough apart to be able to run a cultivator through them , almost zero weeding until the corn gets too high it’s what we do and works great, just harvested my Walla Walla onions today.

I would say buy a 5FT or 6FT rototiller and till all that up when you do a corn 🌽 or what ever you decide to plant I got a small lawn tractor riding mower shaft drive cub cadet LT2180 you can watch my videos on my channel as well but there’s a good way of doing it tilling does awesome in Gallatin Tennessee were I’m from and have done the same thing and me and dad clean horse stalls and carry the fertilize to our backyard garden and lower your PH level down to grow good food of any kind

Don't use your York rake to level the furrows. They compact the ground the more you go over it. For planting corn, you'll want to use offset disks.
Just as soon plant corn since you got all the work done.

I wouldn't want to be drinking your well water.
a couple of years of row crop would help break up the cycle on the grass you dont want. After that the field would have much less switch grass and be ready for your native grasses.
I would plant the corn.
You e got alot invested in that piece, corn will bring some money back . A lawn generates no income.

Corn seems natural if you have a market for it. Check the market before you decide.
What’s the mixture you’re using with the weed & grass killer + 24D or do you just use all of it and the rest of water?
3 oz of weed and grass killer and 1.5oz of 24d per gallon of water
For a finished product... your not gonna beat a harley rake buddy... and $75 for the day is a deal.. my vote is that!

Little tip... in theory you should be able to get good results by going one direction, and then turn 90 degrees and go that direction, windrow all the debris to the end of your runs, and then come back through with your front end loader and dispose of it... you'll figure it out, they have a pretty short learning curve I think... good luck, cant wait to see that video!
The one I’m renting has a hydraulic angle on it but I don’t have any rear remotes so they’re just going to pitch it to one side for me and it’ll be fixed in one position. I need to get rear remotes haha
@@HometownAcres I have hydraulic angle on both my 3pt (bur never had remotes) so it has a manual angle on it, and hydraulic angle on my skid steer one...and always use it straight, with the end plates and just carry the debris with me....
I think plant corn or something edible cause at least it will have a purpose you won't make any money out of it being grass unless you sell it to hay makers I don't know thats my opinion great job btw

I think I could pull a 2 bottom plow. Not sure about a 3 bottom
I can tell you from experience, the CK3510SE will pull a 2 bottom but not a 3

What is your favorite attachment for your tractor
That is such a hard question. I use all of them but I would probably say the pallet forks are the ones I use most often, followed by the grapple. I use the box blade for driveway and atv trail maintenance occasionally but most times when I put it on the back of the tractor it’s for ballast because it’s very heavy and provides excellent counterweight when I’m picking up big logs with the grapple or pallet forks. The brush hog gets used probably 5-6 times a summer and then doesn’t get used all winter for obvious reasons. This plow I just bought I don’t think I’ll use all that often but I think I could use it if I needed to establish some ditches for water run off of the driveway or atv trails
